I like how there's two items in the competition, designed by 2 different people, that won't work if they're near each other.
This weapon is really useful for murderhobos, but punishes anyone else.
EDIT: And the next item tells me that anyone capable of using it can use it...
I THOUGHT I WOULD BE SAFE FROM CAMPING ITEMS BUT NOOOOOOOOOO

I've seen quite a few items which would make Darwin very happy...

That's not a helpful protection.
That just trolled em hard, well played and a clever name.

Maybe you had the same bard item, but I stumbled upon a really cool one actually.
We need more bard items, I might make one next year.
**is a bard lover** Check out my Bosun's Call from last year. Oh! I love the theme... it's mostly the one we need most help when playing PFS Scenarios. Players rarely have Sailor Profession and are not always good at Swimming and Climbing. I see it being used in some Adventure Paths as well.
WHY ARE ALL OF THE GOBLIN FARMERS OUT FISHING?!

Just saw a suit of armor that has nearly the exact same name as a weapon and has complimentary but not overlapping abilities. Very cool synergy...
I just had a pair that the difference in word count was 247!!!

Additionally...
And then...
Also...
I loved your item when it had two powers. Please know when to stop.
So, I did the math: I think that weapon just now had a +11 or +12 enhancement bonus...
...and it did other things, too!

Apparently there are a lot of people who want to play a Magus, without actually being a Magus.
Hello strange and gonzo item. Your designer has clearly never GM'd before, or he'd never have made an item that did that.
Either that, or your designer once had a GM sleep with his girlfriend, and this is payback...

Perhaps I exaggerated just a tad, but it's a clear derivative. Benefit of the doubt, however...perhaps the designer is a first-year entrant that didn't bother to look over old items to make sure they weren't accidentally copying something else.

I'm just short a walkie talkie item for my bingo card
Well at least there is not a lot of filigree this year! Just now saw my first one with Filigree.
Though I am getting a lot of items that have 8+ different things in the requirements. I saw one that had at least 12!

I'm so curious to read the "good" submissions, but I don't have the patience to read through most submissions. I'm guaranteed to read roughly 32 at the end of January.
GM_Solspiral wrote: I'm just short a walkie talkie item for my bingo card Yes, yours was pretty spot on.
Gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII. Seriously...

Sigh. Very disappointed in some (perhaps unknowingly) racist items...
a lot of cliche contrasting materials IE Ebony and Ivory, and a lot smallish rings with a lot of engravings
GM_Solspiral wrote: I'm just short a walkie talkie item for my bingo card Don't worry, there are at least 3 so far.

I have seen... my bed.
Good night all, see you all in the morning - have a great time voting :)
It's funny what creatures people call on for inspiration. Seen two items both inspired by the same monster, a monster I would not have associated with that type of item.

I settled on an item with [theme redacted] this year, and did a bunch of searching to verify that precious few items from previous RPGSS had really been focused on [theme] or [ability], and I felt happy I was touching on a little-touched area...
....so of course I've seen about five items now that are all on that theme, and based on comments here, there have been more than that five.
Oops. Ah well!
I thought I'd be rather disappointed with the stave entries this year since people had been dissuaded from trying it unless they had a really cool idea, but it seems that people have surprised me with some pretty cool ones. You usually see wizards and sorcerers as the predominant staff users but I'm seeing a lot of druid-themed ones and the nature-love is making me happy :D

In general, I believe people rose to the challenge quite well.

I have never been quite sure what the design space for rings is, but a number of these have really caught my attention and made me wish I could vote for them twice.

Gnhhh. I just had an item that read a hell of a lot like one of the example parodies we're using here for the sake of vagueness-- in the sense of, I would have assumed that description was a parody of bad item description, but no, that was actually the item. :(
... There's... this armor. It's so damn stupid, but yet so fantastic. I can't stop laughing.
GM_Solspiral wrote: I'm just short a walkie talkie item for my bingo card I seriously considered - for a brief, fleeting moment - adding a walkie-talkie ability to my entry. Then I laughed hysterically at myself and said, "NO."
Fff....
Item a: invokes an ability that doesn't exist in Pathfinder and also has a chart with 20-odd possible abilities for the item
Item b: oh, just lets you casually change the item's abilities to completely different ones whenever you feel like it
*headdesk*

OH MY GOD I GET IT NOW THAT'S HILARIOUS", and it was so well-tuned that the fact that it was a joke item totally got a pass from me just because of how well the author got it to work.

If joke items are well written and work as they should, then they get a pass. No one says we need to be serious all the time, and why not reward creativity and effort?
I saw an item in the competition very similar to one my gaming group collectively designed several years ago, but to my knowledge we never statted up. They leave their "great ideas" for me to beat into shape, so since I didn't like it, I never did it.

Apparently a lot of people have read the subtle knife. I just read two entries with nearly the exact same ability.
299 words vs 299 words!
Let's see if any words have been left out...
Whoa...that was NOT the way the template placed those bold tags.
