Mongol-themed character, where in Golarion could he hail from?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Been thinking of making a ranged cavalier type inspired by the warriors of the Golden Horde. I'm not that savvy about Golarion's lore; are there any sort of nomadic warrior clans specializing in mounted archery in the setting?

Hongal.

Indeed. It's pretty explicitly fantasy Mongolia, only with less invading and conquering of other countries.

I'm playing a kind of mongol/tarter themed guy in our Kingmaker campaign. I figured the River Kingdoms would attract all kinds of people.

Iobaria has some mongol theme to it as well, particularly among their centaurs.

I like the basic samurai as a good representation of the honorable mongol warrior better than the cavalier. When allowed to use 3PP material, I choose the yabusame samurai archetype from Rite Publishing Way of the Samurai (PFRPG), because of being a mounted archer specialist.

I recommend watching Marco Polo on Netflicks for a decent show with mongols.

Liberty's Edge

If looking for mechanics...I actually wrote up a mongol warrior a while back (the equipment's even more or less accurate, per wikipedia). In short, Luring Emissary Cavalier is basically perfect for horse archers.

Marco Polo is an excellent show!

Karazh in Casmaron is also a good spot, as it drew a fair bit of influence from Mongolia and Kazakhstan. So far, it's only been detailed in the web fiction story Boar and Rabbit.

So far. :)

I binged watched the entire Marco Polo season this week. Beats game of throne in my opinion.

barbarians with falchions: lots
monks with kung fu: check
siege engineers: affirmative
profession merchant checks:

Spoiler:
to notice low supplies of horse feed for the Khan's brother's army and realize he is not battle ready thus does not plan to assist the Khan in battle: priceless

Not exactly! The capital (such as it is) of Karazh is Ular Kel, but while I drew inspiration from all over the region, I didn't have a direct analogue for the city.

Thanks everyone for the input. Because this is for PFS, I'm probably going to go with Hongal. Marco Polo on Netflix is indeed really good, I've been watching it with my family. "Range of Ghosts" by Elizabeth Bear was also a source of (mongol) inspiration for me; I strongly recommend reading it.

The whole series was excellent. I have been wanting to make a horse-archer type since one of the fight scenes in the first book.

She's working on second trilogy in the same setting, if you hadn't heard.

Also, a there is a great Korean film called Musa or alternately "The Warrior" that has an excellent portrayal of Mongols. Just make sure you get the international version, as the US release cut 30 minutes from the film and left it a mess.

I recommend you having the luring cavalier archetype. It's especialy well-suited for a mounted archer.
