Scarab Sages

So, this came to me earlier this week. Popeye the Sailor man is essentially a mutagenic mauler, with 'alchemical' spinach. While the most basic thing would just be 'a brawler with ranks in sailor' I was going to try and figure out how to make him with cool 'Popeye-related' feats and powers.

20 point buy NG Human Mutagenic Mauler/Steel-breaker Brawler
Str: 16 (Mutagen:20)
Dex: 16
Con: 14
Int: 12 (Mutagen:10)
Wis: 12
Chr: 7 (he's got an ugly mug, his voice is like buzzsaws on the throat, he mutters to himself and isn't well mannered.)

Skills: Profession: Sailor, Acrobatics, Climb, Perception, ????

Gear: Andorran parade Armor (official naval parade uniform)

Feats: Weapon focus: Unarmed, Power attack
Lvl 2: Improved Sunder
Level 3: ?????? (toughness, furious focus?)
Level 4: Weapon Specialization: Unarmed

If you watch the old cartoons, Popeye is actually pretty good at punching inanimate objects and turning them into rubble, so I think a sunder build might work well.

Toughness works. Diehard also has some good flavor. I would make tthe argument for half orc race though. Prominent lower jaw. Butt ugly.

The problem being popeye didnt do so well in the intelligence dept. Imho... so ability wise that doesnt work for me.

I see what you are saying, but Popeye is actually a pretty little guy if you look at him. He's even shorter than Olive Oyl, and he's got no pecs. He's beastly strong, but I don't think he's built like a Half orc. Good thought though.

Depending on the day. He was an UNEDUCATED lout, but he was actually pretty cagey. He had creative solutions to problems sometimes (OTHER than just beating things down with his fist.) Plus he needs the high int so he can have the language polyglot (and his common would be heavily accented, of course.)

The problem with trying to smash things with bare hands is a pain because almost all objects have hardness and only martial artist(monk archtype) can actually ignore hardness for object smashin. Unfortunately that ability scales with character level, so unless you want to do a 1 mutagenic mauler/x martial artist...

Check steel-breaker again . . . you might find yourself a bit surprised.

Oooh awesome. Missed that out. Polygot can be fixed with a rank of linguistics, so you can drop int more, if you like.

Traits : Muscle of the society, so you can lift more stuff. I do remember him throwing things occassionally.

Possibly go for improved bull rush, I remember him punching people so hard they flew off the deck of the ship.

I would have gone with a Drunken Brawler Monk, whose "booze" of choice was fermented spinach.

Popeye was in the Navy, so some ranks in Profession: Sailor/Soldier are required.

He also liked to use guns, and improvised weapons, along with his fists, so those are some additional weapon choices.

Well, and he was kind of a racist, but you can leave that part out.

Or just make him from Cheliax.

"Slip! Gimme mah spinach!"
