What do people think are the best traits for a arcanist?

Advice

Scarab Sages

I'm curious what people think currently is the best choice of traits (non specific e.g. no campaign only ones or region specific) for an arcanist. Right now I'm not seeing anything that really seems all that good unless multi-classing so I'm obviously missing something.

Magical Lineage is helpful
Fate's Favored is always good
Boosting a poor save can be nice

The same basic things that will be good for Wizards and Sorcerers. Magical Lineage on your favorite spell, save boosters, initiative boosters.

Anything that gives role-playing FLAVOR!

Reactionary

Clever wordplay/Student of Philosophy/Dangerously Curious, if you dumped CHA like you probably should.

Magical Lineage

Any of the save boosters.

Scarab Sages

Possibly two-world magic if you want to gain access to a divine cantrip.

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would say Pragmatic Activator for Int to UMD would be pretty handy.
If Half Orc. definitely Fate's Favored.
Student of Philosophy if you want to be a face.
Magical Lineage and Wayang spell hunter if you are planning to focus on a single spell.

I'm taking student of philosophy for that but all the others that appeal are also social and can't be taken so i figured i'd go for something that's considered good instead.

@Blackmane
I saw in another thread that cha is important to arcanists though I don't know why.

Anyway thanks for the suggestions I'll take another look at them.

Seconding Magical Lineage. It's almost as useful as a feat.

Charisma is not important at all for many Arcanist builds. It depends on what exploits you take, some of them give little or no Charisma based bonuses. Others aren't worth the bonus they give.

The problem with magical lineage is that its only ONE spell which leaves a lot of room to go wrong and waste it.

Scarab Sages

Doesn't it really depend on how you build the arcanist? As is, class has 2-4 healer archetypes, and several other builds.

EDIT: In case you were wondering, the Unlettered and White Mage archetypes both grant access to cure spells and other healing ability. That would be the two, then you could technically make a sort of healer build via the Celestial Sorcerer Bloodline or via twilight necro-arcanist archetype, though both of those second ones really wouldn't make much of a primary healer.

True. Though my blaster wizard is having a lot of fun with it and fireball...and admixture, and spell specialization...and lots of metamagic feats...and varisian tattoo.

The more you stack with magical lineage, the better it gets, frankly.

But yeah, choosing the right spell is hard.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, Tireless Logic can be good for those Int skill checks.

If you take the Additional Traits feat to get it, you can retrain the spell choice with the retraining rules. :D

Scarab Sages

Pretty heavy investing either way and I tend towards spending a lot of what I'd get naturally on things I like or that fit the character so I tend to avoid builds requiring heavy costs to be devestating. I'm not devestating without them but it doesn't hurt as much if I choose to take a trait to make me a better singer or a a feat to give my wizard some unarmed training.
