Blending Generes

Off-Topic Discussions

What seem like odd genres to blend? One example that has been done is adding mecha to fantasy. Have we actually become so accustomed to blending genres that no ideas seem odd anymore? Any way I am interested in your thoughts.

Post-apocalypse Care Bears.
Superheroes and anything.
Mayan space opera.
Ancient Egyptian steampunk

I'd been playing about with a genre blend set for a world that was...

Mayincatechnomantic cyclical siege/capture the City
Ancient Astronaut/Nazca-esque elemental bender/kineticists
Metal-free Wuxia themed around cliff-dwelling in an environment straight out of some the more vertical Chinese paintings
Partially sunken continental-Africa-meets-Atlantis
And a vaguely Oceanic (emphasis on Polynesian more than any other particular culture) tribe of people whose life cycle was partially inspired by the 'Piggies' from Speaker of the Dead, who believed that there were a finite number of souls in the world, and we're preparing to embark on an epic quest to...call a meteor from the heavens that contained the stashed surplus of their people's souls according to the last words of their dying deity, with the act likely to kill off MANY of the other races, if not completely then in the majority.

Mecha warfare to combat aliens in an Anne of Green Gables/Jane Austen style period piece.

Elder Gods style existential horror in a buddy cop movie.

A silent film musical.

Sucker Punch. All of that.
