What's the alignment of that character? True Chaotic?

I envisioned the character as true neutral. Sure, he enjoys slaughter and fighting, getting his smiles from visceral and gruesome execution, like a chaotic, but he has rules about how and who he fights like a lawful. He defends those too weak to defend themselves, like a good, but will kill anyone he views as a "warrior" regardless of their alignment if he meets them on the battlefield, like an evil. Figured because he was a balance of all those things, True Neutral is what he was most like.

I'll be honest. I liked your first concept better. I'm not ready to work with custom feats or tricks and the character you're devising feels too grim for what I'm intending for the campaign. This one just doesn't feel right for an exploration and RP heavy adventure. He also doesn't seem like a team player and, while interparty conflict is fine, straight out loner types never bode well for a cooperative game in my opinion.

Certainly. While I don't envision him as straight up loner (he just doesn't like ganging up on opponents, he cares for Mitsu and works with anyone), he is certainly very grim. I made this character in case you liked people who had room to grow by meeting good characters. Leiko is pretty much already good-happy-fun times. She has little to no potential for character growth because she doesn't have anything to fix or improve. She has very few connections to the world, so she is free to go anywhere and do anything, but likewise, few things will have impact on her. In summary, low maintenance, but unlikely to add interesting drama. Muga was designed to have lots of flaws, but establish that he could be improved and redeemed. To have tons of connections to the world and to people that could be used to influence him or create drama (Quick example, the next adventure takes us to the Jade Kingdom. That would naturally be problematic for wanted Muga, adding interesting drama, but also adding an extra obstacle). Higher maintenance, but greater potential.

Seems you wish to keep these character on the light side, low maintenance level, so hey, at least making Muga taught me something about your style. :)

@Illia-: Oh, I love character growth and exploration. Adore it. I just never have agreed with the philosophy that happy or "light" characters are incapable of it. I think your cleric has plenty of room for it, in fact. She has flaws, I'm sure, and those are for you to bring out. My prime concern for your other character is that he won't be capable of working with the group from day one. Plus, we've got several able fighters but only one cleric in the queue.

Also, now I'm a bit concerned that you know the adventure path. Which I suppose I should have asked before.

How many people have read and/or played and/or run this this AP before?

I don't usually play APs since the normal Pathfinder setting isn't my cup of tea. This is no exception.

What adventure path are we playing? I've done Jade Regent and the first part of Pirates (The one that starts with Wormwood Mutiny). And I bought a bunch of the solo adventures from when Paizo was doing 3.5 modules.

Aha. We're doing Mummy's Mask to begin with. Half-Dead City. For some reason I thought you knew something I didn't. :) I didn't think it detoured into the Asian-inspired part of the Pathfinder setting but my brain is currently tired.

Btw, if you think your cleric won't have enoug fun in her to play, feel free to change her up. I think we can have some drama with her as well. Corruption in her blood? A lack of ties to anything in a world where ties help define who we are?

I can work with that. I think there's plenty of drama potential there.

Fair enough, I thought that because you were pushing a bunch for me to develop an Icon, which I still might do, you figured those two things wouldn't come up.

*don't forget the father loose end! He could still be around. Also considering adding a twin sister who chose to go to sea to find him. :P

@Illia-: I didn't mean to push the Icon thing at all. That's just a neat path to take. And those things will come up, I hope. If you want them to. And dad and sis are possible plot points.

@Dorian: Looking forward to seeing your character.

@Dawna: The basics of the oath are fine. I'm going to adjust the wording tonight or tomorrow when I write up the 5th Legion for the Organizations section of the wiki.

Everyone:

Please remember that the deadline is tomorrow night. Technically, you have until when I wake up Tuesday morning. :)

Popping in to say hello with my Arcanist (Deliverance here). As of this writing I havnt added background and the like, its just a hollow mechanical shell. Still, its always nice to let the DM get some early insight.

Quick and dirty background to be fleshed out later:
The basic gist of his background will be one of nobility. When the war ended all those years ago, Milos family, nobility then as they are now, decided to pursue these new arcane arts, seeing both opportunities in their acquisition, and fearing what might happen if political enemies possessed such power while they did not. Milo being the fourth generation since the end of the war, grows up in a family with an established tradition for producing wizards.

However, Milo being an inquisitive and free spirit, being amongst his "lessers" whenever he could get away with it, does not take well to wizardry. While undoubtedly smart enough and showing promise, he is too rebellious in his use of magic, experimenting with its application in dangerous and unorthodox ways. That alone would have been controversial for a seasoned wizard, but for a novice in training, he quickly became known as a dangerous individual amongst his peers. Unwilling to be the enabler of his dabbling, he was expelled from the mages college. His parents, though disappointed and angered by their sons actions, none the less sought other ways to educate their son.

So it was that he was sent to the Bards College instead, their hope being that the more fluid way in which the Bards practiced the arcane, would be enough of an outlet for Milo to complete his education.

But it was not to be. Instead of satisfying Milos penchant for experimentation, the things he learned at the college only made it worse. Mixing arcane theory from both institutes, Milo soon became and even greater problem.

However some good had come of Milos enrollment in the Bards College. The nature of the bardic vocation intrigued him greatly, the promise of adventure and discovery of their profession drawing all his attention. When word came to him that his parents had plans to move him to a third institute, he ran away, finally fed up with their stifling attempts to control his future.

He now lives his life on the edge of the law, not a common criminal, but none the less willing to steal that which he cannot bargain for.

Though ive read the Wiki, I cant recall if the Wizard school(s?) have had a location assigned to them, but if they have, id like to know. They will inform which area of the world Milo originally hails from.

@Milo:
1. Your background suggests to me that you are nobility in the Amethystian Empire. Your last name suggests the Kingdom of Amethyst itself since that is the most English-like of the provinces.
2. The largest magic college in the Empire is in the capital city of Onyx, Vesicule. However, there are also magic colleges in the Kingdoms of Amethyst and Alexandrite as well as in the Scapolite Theocracy. There are Mage schools outside of the Empire as well, of course.
3. The Bard's College is not an institution of learning in the traditional sense but a secret society. No one gets sent there. The bards recruit members in secret and train them up to be their agents in the world. You wouldn't have been sent there. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
4. I like the ideas in your background. Your ancestor might have been one of the scholars who stole and cracked the secrets of magic from Tiamat's slave-armies.

Updated my crunch (hopefully the final version :))

I think ill just have him run away, then either seek out, or get sought out by the bards. Might even be cool to have them teach him how to control the special brand of magic he wields. So he would be affiliated with the bards, just not a bard himself.

@Milo: The bards would recruit you, certainly. As a member you'll be expected to send regular reports with everything you have learned to them. They collect knowledge and would be especially interested in what can be learned from the open necropolis.

I'm honored you consider my setting worth playing in.

To be honest I didn't really know Half-Dead city was an AP when I applied.

You're allowed to withdraw if you don't want to be part of it. I wouldn't want you to feel obligated.

Just a reminder that I'll be making the final selection tomorrow morning. Here's the status of everything as I am aware of it. Please let me know if I missed anything or am incorrect. Fully submitted characters are in bigger text.

Unknown Character
Alika Seanja

That's 8 fully submitted characters. Not bad at all. Though some of those submissions could use more flushed out backgrounds.

May I present KintalKwikbladeTormsil cheerful halfling chef/entertainer (and part time swashbuckler).

Crunch still probably needs some work. Background is pretty much finished.

Telthes is ready.

I plan on getting Bastian fully functional in the Hour he has strong links to Chalcedony and possible links with other such person mention (Like the investigator)

I just wanted you to be aware. He will be an Brawler(Exemplar) Who is on a secret mission to restore his superior's old blade as well as investigate the traitor families of Chalcedony

I plan on making him the martial Buffer/Tankish guy of the party. Handing out Inspire Courage and Teamwork Feats through Cavalier and Fighter as well as Brawler

Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6) = 10

Forgot about this

@Kintal: Welcome aboard. Fantastically written backstory.

@Bastion: Looking forward to seeing the finished character.

Okay, folks! I think I have enough to break this into two tables.

One table will be running through the first part of the Mummy's Mask adventure path (modified for the setting) and then possibly beyond. This campaign will be focused on mystery, exploration and danger.

The second table will be running through the first part of the Shackled City adventure path (modified for the setting) and then possibly beyond This will have a more "standard" heroes doing heroic things and adventuring campaign. This campaign will take place not in a city built over a volcano but in one of the Quartz cities, which is built on the body of a slowly moving giant.

Does anyone have a preference as to which campaign I consider them for?

The Exchange

Kintal wants to be in whichever is most likely to involve good food and the likelihood of discovering interesting spices and exotic fruits and vegetables.

I am in another Mummy's Mask that is supposed to be restarting after the holidays, so Shackled City would be my preference. Plus, the Quartz Cities are one of those parts of the world that Kintal has yet to sample to cuisine of.

EDIT - hmmm, not sure I like this avatar, gotta find another.

Telthes doesn't care as long as he can kill things.

Unfortunately my backstory kind of region-locks me to the Mummy's Mask (at least at the onset).

I would prefer the Mummy mask one

@Gil: Could just tweak it a bit. They recycle materials in the Quartz Territories, too. Of course, they also weave entire houses out of the giant's hair so...

I think it's easier not to. I'd also have to rework my mother and father since they would both become immigrants.

Mummy's Mask for sure, the Quartz territories are old news to the Tavistons.

Mummy's Mask Bastian has to gather a certain material as well as the mission is best hidden under guise of exploration.

Here's the final list I'll be choosing from. I'm hoping to have invitations extended by this evening. I want to thank everyone for participating so far. This is my first time as a GM here so I was rather nervous no one would be interested.

If I missed anyone who fully submitted, please let me know. I think this list is complete but there are over two hundred posts in this thread to sort through.

I'm also noting who is interested in which campaign. If I haven't posted the final invitations yet, please feel free to state your preference for either the Mummy's Mask campaign (exploration, mystery and investigation) or the Shackled City campaign (more fantasy adventure in a city built on a giant!)

Strength of Arm

  • Telthes (pb Brownman): Dwarf invulnerable rager barbarian. EITHER
  • Gil Odalis (pb Johnnycat93): Human (Thulite) urban barbarian. MUMMY'S MASK
  • Dawna (pb Feuerrabe): Human (Amethystish) paladin of Amethyst.
  • Dorian Quartz (pb Ira Kroll 58): Human (Quartzian) swashbuckler.
  • Kintal Kwikblade Torsmil (pb Tirion Jörðhár): Halfling swashbuckler. SHACKLED CITY
  • Bastion Augusta Raphiel (pb Endoralis): Human (Chalcedonik) Brawler (Exemplar). MUMMY'S MASK

Strength of Mind

  • Tobias Taviston (pb Tuyena): Human (Amethystish) empiricist investigator. MUMMY'S MASK

Strength of Spell

  • Lilia Aconite (pb Yokaiboy): Human (plant-born Amazonite) alchemist. MUMMY'S MASK
  • Illia-: Evangelist cleric follower of Pearl.
  • Milo Quinn (pb Deliverance): Human (Amethystish?) arcanist.

Man, I really need to sit down and write an actual background thats more than just a recruitment thread footnote. Just so much RL stuff to do!

And backstory is done and Equipemnt fully done!

The Exchange

Kinal is more of a skill player than a fighter. Admittedly with levels of Swashbuckler, he will be a very strong secondary combatant, but I expect him to take rogue levels moving forward.

Also, if we are really weak on arcane, he may take levels of Wizard as well and end up swashbuckler/wizard/eldritch knight or some other arcane PrC. Although he will never be a full caster with levels in swashbuckler.

@Milo: Even more so with the holidays here, I bet!

@Bastion: Looking good! Well done.

*bows* I went through the trouble of reading your entire Wiki, I wanted something that played well to your world and added something to it.

@Bastion: I do appreciate it. I feel bad for not having more detail there for you to read.

The Exchange

Na, the Wiki is cool. Interesting areas with lots of space for development as things proceed. You have fairly clear views for how each land/nation is developed. I wish I had more time for a longer background, although mine was already too long, as it would have been fun to further develop Kintal's escapades.

Either setting is fine for Dorian.

Either setting is fine for either of my character.

Okay! After some deliberation, I've decided to break things down the following way.

The Shibbati Group
The following characters are invited to participate in the Half-Dead City, adapted from the Mummy's Mask adventure path. The setting is the city of Shibbati in the Grand Sultanate of Citrine. The focus of the adventure and campaign beyond will be exploration, investigation and mystery.

  • Gil Odalis, human urban barbarian.
  • Bastion Augusta Raphiel, human exemplar brawler.
  • Tobias Taviston, human empericist investigator.
  • Lilia Aconite, plant-born Amazonite human bramble brewer alchemist.
  • Dorian Quartz, human swashbuckler.

The Blue Quartz group
The following characters are invited to participate in Life's Bazaar, adapted from the Shackled City adventure path. The setting is the city of Blue Quartz in the Quartz Territories. The focus of the adventure and campaign will be on traditional fantasy heroics in an unusual urban setting.

  • Telthes, dwarf invulnerable rager barbarian.
  • Kintal Kwikblade Torsmil, halfling swashbuckler.
  • Dawna, human paladin of Amethyst.
  • Milo Quinn, human arcanist.
  • Leiko, human cleric of Pearl.

I hope each of you accepts. I'll be putting together the appropriate threads tomorrow and aiming for starting each campaign the 26th (starting on Christmas Eve or Christmas doesn't make much sense to me).

In the meanwhile...

Shibbati group: Obviously, you're all entering the grand lottery to receive official permission to explore and profit from the necropolis. You have two options. 1. Enter as an already formed group. 2. Enter as individuals and be assigned randomly together. Which would you prefer?

Blue Quartz group: The city of Blue Quartz is, as previously mentioned, built on the body of a giant. Materials are imported to do a lot of the building but the residents also make use of local materials such as the giant's hair and skin to build. Blue Quartz is famed as a city of painters. Other arts are represented, of course, but most residents are painters either as hobbyists or professionals. You will be starting here and quickly ensnared in an adventure. Do you want to forge connections ahead of time or go in cold, not knowing each other?

Looking forward to this. Thank each and every one of you for giving a new GM to these forums (and his setting) a chance.

Can I change a couple of the languages Telthes knows to be more appropriate to the new location?

@JGray: concerning languages : I never selected Lilias two bonus languages, what would make sens besides Citrine?

@Browman: Yes. By all means.

@Yokaiboy: Scapolitan is probably the most commonly spoken language in the city beyond Citrinic. However, the languages you're most likely to have come in contact with back home are Peridotish and Emeraldish.

Everyone from the Shibbati group: Scholars or those interested in Citrine history may wish to take Ancient Citrinic, a language related to modern Citrinic but different enough to merit a separate language slot. The written form of the language is especially different, since it is based on hieroglyphs instead of an alphabet like modern Citrinic.

I think Tobias would have preferred to hand pick his bunch, but given his funds being relatively low he can't exactly hire out a bunch of sellswords. So it's probably random for my vote.

Telthes is also short of cash, so he can't be terribly picky about who hires him.

So, who in the quartz group would like to be friends, even if it's so little as "We met each other, said hi, came away with a nice first impression and didn't expect to meet again"?

I have no preference for group formation. Up until this point my character was working for a living.

Ok, looking at the other characters to see whether there is a possible connection.

Dorian is new in town, looking for adventure, looking to prove himself.

He is not the talking type, but has found a few like-minded individuals who seem all to want to join in the lottery. Perhaps together they can make a name for themselves.

Cheers for being allowed in despite the lack of flesh on Milos character sheet. Ill have to remedy that ofcourse, but for now, its christmas :)

Wherever Milo goes, it is almost exclusively to learn new things and have something to bring back to the Bards. Hes also got an adventurous streak though, so its not like hes just doing it for work.

On the connections side of things, I think it would be cool for Milo to know someone else in the group as a connection, who has given him tips in the past. One of those same tips about something interesting could be why he is there now, meeting with this other player.

Kintal strikes me as the sort that could be Milos informant. He travels far and wide after all. If he and Milo knew eachother well enough, Kintal might be inclined to send Milo a letter whenever he came across something he thought might interest the young arcanist.

What do you say Kintal? Care to make some relations?
