GM Samy's Mummy's Mask

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 140 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>
Liberty's Edge

I'm interested in running Mummy's Mask, but I'm going to straight out say that I haven't run a PbP before, and I don't know for sure I'll be able to hack the pressure. So...only applicants who won't want to murder me if it turns out I can't do this, please.

I have quite a few house rules which may turn people off as it is.

1) Ability scores: Pick either 1 free 18, or 2 free 14s. For the remaining abilities, you can either roll 3d6 or take 10. If you choose to roll, however, you can't take 10 after that if the rolls turn out poorly.

2) Ability score increases +2/1 lvl, instead of standard +1/4 lvl. However, maximum before racial modifiers is as per core rules, i.e. 19 at 4th, 20 at 8th, and so on.

3) Hit dice as per D&D, not PF, i.e. wizard-like classes d4, rogue-like classes d6. Ask if in doubt.

4) Two traits, plus one free campaign trait, plus one free regional trait ONLY if you choose to be from Osirion.

5) Races: Of core races, only human is allowed. No elves, dwarves et al. No races with a +4 modifier at anything. Evil races such as gnolls and drow are not auto-prohibited, but will have a tougher time being selected. I will entertain negotiation on tweaking racial traits *slightly* -- for example the dhampir's negative energy affinity can be a pain. The following races are acceptable without having to ask: human, aasimar (incl. heritages), android, catfolk, changeling, dhampir (incl. heritages), ifrit, lashunta, oread, ratfolk, samsaran, suli, sylph, tiefling (incl. heritages), undine

6) Alignments: Evil is allowed, but you MUST be a team player. No backstabbers who will work against/steal from the party.

7) I place emphasis on relationship-building with NPCs and non-combat RP. I will have a homebrew system for keeping track of relationships that is vaguely reminiscent of Ultimate Campaign's, but faster moving.

8) LGBTQ characters are especially welcome.

9) Starting money: Don't worry about equipment unless you're selected.

10) Posting rate: Put in your application what would be natural for you, and I'll try to select people with similar posting rates.

11) Classes: Occult Adventures playtest classes not allowed, as I haven't had (and won't have) time to familiarize myself with them. Advanced Class Guide classes are iffy -- not outright prohibited, but probably less likely to be selected. Everything prior to that is fair game.

12) Deadline: Depends on interest levels. If I get lots of applications I might close up earlier and if it's quiet I might let this recruitment thread stand a couple of weeks.

If there's anybody still interested after all this, feel free to post with any questions.

I might make a cryptbreaker alchemist.

Dark Archive

Cooking up a Chelish human merchant/tomb robber/fighter named Abigor Arneste seeking riches for unknown yet desperate ends.

Let's tempt fate...Dammit, I'm dungeon chow.

First set: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3) = 6
Second set: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3) = 6
Third set: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) = 10
Fourth set: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3) = 7
Fifth set: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4) = 12
Sixth set: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) = 13

Nvm, I'm bowing out of this, good luck with your first time, Samy!

Liberty's Edge

I amend my earlier statement about the random rolling. Instead of 3d6 times 6, it's one free 18, or 2 free 14, then the remaining 4-5 abilities are 3d6. Otherwise it just wouldn't be fair versus the arrays. I have updated 1) to reflect this.

You got my curiosity up. I'll give it a try. If I'm not accepted, at least I had fun making an oddball character concept. I'm taking an 18 to start.

3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6) = 18
3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6) = 12

... and there go all of my good rolls for this campaign.

Clarification on the ability score gain. Every level we gain +2 to one stat? or can the +2 points be split into two abilities?

Also why no other core races? at least some of them are native to Osirion.

For stats I will take 2 14s.
3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2) = 7

Dark Archive

So can I switch out those two 6s with 14s? If so, I'll come back.

Not many opportunities to play a necromancer-ish character. Let's see what we get.

Taking the 14's option since MagusJanus has taken all of the good rolls already. ;-)

3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9

I'm in, if you'll have me. Will have to think a bit on race & class.

Sczarni

I'll go ahead and roll....I'm taking an 18 plus....

roll: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) = 11
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2) = 10
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) = 10
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6) = 13
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1) = 9

Works for me.....thinking of a cleric.....will work it up for submission.

I am interested in giving this game a shot. I already have a character statted up for another MM game which he was not selected for. I present Turel Garaldo, a human Garundi monk belonging to one of the many tribes in Osiris. HERE is his profile.

As for his rolls, I think I will select the 2 14's and roll the rest.

roll: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4) = 11
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5) = 13
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2) = 9
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1) = 9

I think that will work ok for him. If selected I will go ahead and modify his ability scores.

Liberty's Edge

Arneste, you can do that.

If you want, you can split the two level-up ability points to different abilities.

The restriction on core races is purely personal preference, no other reason.

Cool.

Personal preference works for me, I just figured I would ask.

Thinking some kind of Archer (probably either fighter or ranger)

Race will likely be Ifrit or Oread.

Stat: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4) = 11
Stat: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4) = 11
Stat: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5) = 11

Stat: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) = 10

Shadow Lodge

Ill test my faith take an 18

3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11

3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6) = 10

3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5) = 14

3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3) = 7

3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1) = 6

3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5) = 7

Ugh well at least i got a 14. Im thinking of a melee Fighter, fencer style.

Character will be up soon. I'm currently going for an alchemist character.

Liberty's Edge

I'm going to do the "Take Two 14s" and roll the other four.

The Character I have in mind is an Angelkin Aasimar Bard(Arcane Duelist).

And trusting to fate, here we go:

3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2) = 7

Ouch. That 7 hurts... really bad. Could be worse, though.

"I will wait paitently my oportunity. There are far too many bounties to collect, no contract is too difficult and no target is too hard.
Sight... long were gone my times as bodyguard, those were good times, easy times. But now I have hunch, yes these are times for glory."

Just finished, in case you accept me let me know so I stat my equipment and attacks

Alright, here's dotting with Abigor Arneste, so you have a link to find his slowly developing character page.

Introducing Regina dei Dannati (character of Caro Cogitatus).

Since it looks like I will be doing mummy's mask in a different play by post I will withdraw my interest.

Liberty's Edge

These are the applicants I'm currently aware of. Please let me know if I've missed anyone. Of course, some of you still have some work to do. :)

Melee
Turel Garaldo, LN Male Human Terra-Cotta Monk (Eric Swanson)
Camus de Sable, LN Male Human Lore Warden Fighter (ElementalXX)
Abigor Arneste, LN Male Human Fighter (House_Arneste)

Divine
Regina dei Dannati, LE Female Dhampir Cleric (Caro Cogitatus)
Cleric (Alginon)

Arcane
Angelkin Aasimar Arcane Duelist Bard (Orannis)
Ayaki Hu, CN Female Kitsune Bard (Hayato Ken)

Other
Alchemist (MagusJanus)
Cryptbreaker Alchemist (Nohwear)

Do those of us who have work to do, know it? AFAIK I don't.

I do plan on having a small retinue of undead minions following me as soon as I have the power to do so. Looks like we have no LG goody-goodies who will frown on such behavior so far.

Frowning is no fun, is it my friendlies? So that's good.

If your character will have a problem with that, PM me or post so here and we'll see what we can work out.

That's, of course, assuming I'm chosen.

You've got 2 bards, 2 clerics, 2 alchemists and 3 melee. I'd like to try a human sorcerer, to offer battlefield control, though the lower hitpoints would be painful. I'll take the free eighteen and try my luck.

3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3) = 7
3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5) = 13

That actually looks like it might be somewhat doable...

My forum posting rate is fair -- I do about 20 posts a day on Paizo forums. What sort of background would you like in our application?

Hmm

Edited to add: Is recruitment closed for this?

Liberty's Edge

No, recruitment is not yet closed.

Regina, good question on whether to know if you're finished. Here's a checklist for everyone. If you have the following, you should be good.

* Name
* HOME REGION! (Golarion nation)
* Alignment
* Gender
* Race (plus heritage if applicable)
* Class (plus archetype if applicable)
* Traits
* Feats
* Skill point distribution
* Class abilities (such as domains, bonus feats et al.)
* Selected spells known (but daily memorized is not required)
* A paragraph or two on background/personality

Plus a couple of specific unique requirements:

* If you are going for an evil character, I would like you to write a little bit on in what way is the character a team player. For what personality reasons could I expect the character not to backstab the team?
* Sexual orientation of the character (optional, since this may be an uncomfortable topic for some). Since I plan on doing a lot of social RP with NPCs, this will help me know which NPCs the character could be suited to build relationships with.

Equipment and creating an alias are not required at this point.

Is there a list of NPCs anywhere from Mummy's Mask (if you want us to build NPCs into our backstory, for relationships and such?) I read through the player's guide and did not see a listing there. Or will we be linking to the NPCs after we're selected?

Hmm

PS Another question: how do you feel about pet classes -- druid, summoner, sylvan sorcerer? I'm not sure that I'd go for it, but with four hp it would be awfully tempting to get a pet to come between me and the enemy.

I'm very much of a team player, and would never let a pet overshadow the other PCs. Whatever I pick for a class would specialize in battlefield control.

On mobile so will keep this short.

Regina is Osiriani. She is very ambitious (her name means Queen of the Damned in Italian) but understands that the best way to accomplish her goals is with allies. More later.

I'll be introducing NPCs in-game. Throwing around the possibility of offering a short-list after selection but pre-game.

I have no problem with pet classes, but keeping the pet active is the player's responsibility. If the pet's existence gets forgotten (as I've sometimes seen happen) it's not my fault. ;)

Scarab Sages

Free 18
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) = 11
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) = 6
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1) = 10
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3) = 9
roll: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) = 12

Ratfolk Alchemist for me.

I'll admit that I've also seen players forget their familiars (that was an ongoing joke in Order of the Stick between Vaarsuvius and Blackwing.) I'm pretty sure that most toad familiars stay in their master's pocket the entire game. :)

I'm pretty good about roleplaying animal companions, though.

I'm looking primarily at sorcerers, though I haven't decided on the exact bloodline yet. (Only sylvan offers an animal companion.) I'll also take a peek at the summoner class and see if anything inspires me there.

Thanks for being open to the option.

Hmm

I have not given Turel's sexual orientation much thought as there is nothing in his background to indicate any particular sexual preference. Due to his upbringing, having a relationship is not foremost on his mind. Nothing suggests he would be homosexual however so I would say he is straight.

By the way, looking over Regina's background I do see a possible link between her and Turel due to the Osirian gods he worships. While I did not specify which god he received a message from I could see Ahriman as being that one, despite his neutral alignment. Should he learn of Regina's background, he very well could become fascinated with her in some way.

Let me know what you think of this, Regina.

Liberty's Edge

Wow, alchemist seems to be a popular class.

Samy wrote:

It's an arcane class with good skills, good hit points, the ability to wear armor and great damage potential. I'm playing one in another play by post and I can say that alchemists are a lot of fun.

___________

"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Harmose Nefer."

Harmose is a handsome and well-dressed Osiriani male. Those who look closely notice that his clothes, though well-made, have been altered multiple times to suit the latest fashions rather than being made anew. He bows to the assembled company and smiles deeply.

"I hear that you are assembling a party to explore and search for antiquities. I have some magical gifts, and would love to join you on this expedition. Nothing fascinates me more than ancient mysteries."

"As for danger, I'm not afraid of it. I died once and came back -- I think I'm destined to be able to go into strange lands and come back again."

___________

I am leaning towards Sylvan, but haven't fully committed to it yet. I've also interested in Bedrock and Djinni bloodlines. Do you have any opinions on the bloodlines? All three look to be fun.

Hmm

This is a tentative dot, but let's see what I'll be working with. Two 14s and...

3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6) = 16

I'll take it! Hmm, now to think about a character.

Liberty's Edge

I've no opinions on sorcerer bloodlines, go nuts as long as it's official Paizo.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I've thought about it and I think that I will go with the undead bloodline instead for Harmose. I was worried at first that it would be too much overlap with Regina, but now that I look at it, I don't think that it will. It would allow me to use color spray against undead, and would fit well in my whole background with the idea of having come been resurrected in the past. The whole event awakened my affinity with the undead.

This will lead to me doing quite a bit more shuffling on my avatar's character sheet, but I think it will work.

Hmm

I'm afraid I must bow out for good, the RL/DM side of my roleplaying life has taken on more challenges and must cut out some opportunities to make ends meet. So sorry, but good luck to everyone else! May Desna smile on your odds.

Let's see how the fates are treating me today... (taking an 18).

3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) = 16
3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5) = 11

Well that array certainly gives me a few options.

Tomb raiding needs a trapsmith, so the classic roguish type seems appropriate.

Requested information:

* Name
* HOME REGION! (Osirion nation)
* Alignment NE
* Gender F
* Race Tiefling (I like the basic tiefling, but could I switch the attribute from -2 cha to -2 wis?)
* Class Rogue
* Traits Campaign: Inquisitive Archeologist, Regional: Arcane Dabbler (Create Water, Detect Magic), Racial: Shadow Stabber, Combat: Armor Expert
* Feats Fiend Sight
* Skill point distribution: scattered At first level I will have 12.
* Class abilities (such as domains, bonus feats et al.) rogue is standard for first level
* Selected spells known (but daily memorized is not required) N/A
* A paragraph or two on background/personality
Sekina Tiya grew up in Sothis, the capital of Osirion. Living in the shadow of Ulunat engendered a sense of awe of the ancient. For what powers must they have had to have stopped such a creature. Growing up as the abandoned granddaughter of a merchant in Malhitu Bazaar gave the young Sekina an opportunity to watch and learn of many people and cultures. While she often had to overcome the stigma of her family's past indiscretions, she has for the most part learned to ignore the baited comments of the ignorant. Of course, those same people are often the ones she used to practice her natural talents at involuntary wealth reallocation. She's found that following, at least publicly, most laws, she has no problem forgetting them when convenient. Sekina really doesn't see herself as a 'bad' person. She simply has a flexible moral compass. Some might find this as a result of dealing with so many artifacts and trinkets from long dead people, especially with the lingering social norms of how dead bodies shouldn't be relieved of possessions they no longer need.
Loyal to her companions, she has found that she likes them enough to go out on a limb for them. Her own personal more's stand to guide her in restraining her FMC (flexible moral compass) when it comes to those that she has found she cares for. Generally easy going, something of a practical joker, intolerant of bigots and bullies.

I am still on for this. I'm just having some distractions at the moment from making the character sheet.

I apologize for that.

Liberty's Edge

Acknowledged. I won't be closing submissions for at least a couple days more.

@Turel, Regina is attracted to girls, but due to a strict upbringing has never acted on those feelings. She is probably only vaguely aware of this herself.

@GM, to expand on her LE alignment and motivations, she was loyal to Father for over a century, only ending his undeath when it was clear that it was what he wished but could not bring himself to do. There are rules in life, and even Evil Necromantic Queens have loved ones and trusted friends.

At some point in the far future, a formerly trusted friend may challenge her for some political goal or great treasure. If and when that day comes, she is the type who shows up at your castle gate with an army rather than stab you in the back.

If you happen to have seen the recent movie Maleficent, that's sort of her vibe. But with shambling rotting corpse minions instead of cute fairies.

MagusJanus wrote:

Ditto; work and holiday stuff have kept me busy the past few days. I will say that I've thought about my character and I'm thinking maybe a Sylph Inquisitor but not sure on the deity yet...maybe Shelyn or possibly even one of the empyreal lords.

Grand Lodge

Happy holidays to all. We just had Solstice (Crystal Hue for those who worship Shelyn), and the final night of Chanukkah is also Christmas Eve. For those of you who celebrate none of those holidays -- Happy New Year!

I figure that after the holiday we'll see everyone's characters and backgrounds come together.

Hmm

Liberty's Edge

Yeah I don't want to rush anyone over these special family days. Enjoy time with your family if you're lucky enough to have any, and we'll get back to this afterwards.

Merry (late) Xtmas! I made some corrections to my character ability scores, added a little bit of bg and also added skills and traits.

Okay, this is Lady Ladile checking in with my character. The alias is reused, but I think I've got all the relevant information in her character profile. Let me know if there's anything that I still need to add or if there's something that needs fixing with her sheet :)

Will have my stats up by tomorrow evening. Dealing with some post-holiday chaos.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

It looks like characters are coming together.

GM Samy, will our characters be able to coordinate / change up spell lists once the final group is selected? Sorcerer spells known are precious and limited, especially at 1st level.

Hmm

Liberty's Edge

I have no problem if you want to do sorcerer (or similar spells known class) spell selection after players are selected for the game. I doubt spells known would be the deciding factor who gets picked. :)

And a delay. Writer's block, of a sorts, on background.

General summary is finished, but it's not in a form other people can read. Very few people read D'ni...
