Theorycrafting a cleric of the tetragrammaton

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Since I'm not trying to make this a character, and I'm just looking to shoot the breeze on character idea stuff, I felt that the general discussion thread was more appropriate than the advice thread.

So, someone recently pointed out that the swashbuckler doesn't need a melee weapon to use opportune parry, just for the riposte part. They also point out that the riposte could work with a ranged weapon with 'snap shot' (as snap shot lets you take attacks of opportunity with a ranged weapon, and when you riposte you make an attack 'as if making an attack of opportunity.) Oh, and with rapid reload and alchemical cartridges, you can reload your pistol as part of a free action when taking an attack of opportunity as per snap-shot errata, so you can riposte multiple times with combat reflexes.

I tried to figure out a way to turn this into a gun-kata wielding guy, and it TECHNICALLY works, but it doesn't come online until level nine, and there are several redundant abilities (like Gunslinger and Swashbuckler 'nimble' don't stack.) Can anyone do any better?

Human

Level 1-Swashbuckler 1)-Point blank shot, Rapid reload-pistol (human bonus)
Level 2-Gunslinger 1)
Level 3-Gunslinger 2) Rapid Reload-Pistol
Level 4-Gunslinger 3)
Level 5-Gunslinger 4) Weapon Focus-Pistol, Combat Reflexes (Gunslinger 4 bonus feat)
Level 6-Gunslinger 5) (For dex-to-damage-pistol)
Level 7-Swashbuckler 2) Snap Shot
Level 8-Swashbuckler 3)
Level 9-Swashbuckler 4) Weapon Spec-Pistol (Swashbuckler bonus feat), Point blank mastery (can finally shoot in melee w/o provoking normally, not just when taking AoO.)

Replace the gunslinger with 3 levels of trench fighter. Since you are using guns anyway and not really any of the swash abilities work with guns (aside from riposte/parry) you can also go with taking the amateur swashbuckler feat, or the Kata master monk, or Magus (blackblade myrmidarch) or Daring Champion cavalier instead of swashbuckler. There's probably some things I'm missing.

So, the simplest build would be X levels of gunslinger and you just take the amateur swashbuckler feat (since deed and panache points stack, you'd have a wis based pool).

Actually reading the Deed, you don't need to make an attack at all, and riposte doesn't say it needs a melee weapon either, it just says make an attack.

It says make an attack AS IF you had made an attack of opportunity, so I'm thinking you need snap shot.

I went gunslinger 5 to get the dex-to-damage thing.

Amateur Swashbuckler MAY work, but . . . there is an issue. The grit/Panache pool is the same, so theoretically you might not be able to take amateur swashbuckler as a gunslinger, because you have the 'grit' class feature . . . which has the same pool as the 'panache' class feature. Also, without 4 levels of swashbuckler, there's no way of getting weapon spec, which means there's no way of getting point blank master.

Interesting. Good luck. I'm tempted to homebrew a "gun flurry" type monk myself, but that's me.

As for dex to damage, "trench fighter" will give you that in 3 levels.

That's why you go trench fighter. As a fighter archetype, it grants Weapon Spec at 4 easily.

I see that. I wasn't really up on trench fighter. However, Trench fighter doesn't give you gunsmithing, firearm proficiency, or the ability to start with a gun.

So, revised:
1)Swashbuckler 1-Muskateer) Point blank shot, Rapid Reload(for quick clear, firearms prof. and gunsmithing)
Level 2-Trench fighter 1) Weapon focus-Pistol(Fighter bonus feat)
Level 3-Trench fighter 2) Rapid shot-Pistol, Combat reflexes (Fighter bonus feat)
Level 4-Trench Fighter 3
Level 5-Trench Fighter 4) Point blank master, (some other bonus feat)
Level 6-Trench Fighter 5)
Level 7-Trench Fighter 6)Snap Shot.

Uh... did you mean "grammaton?" Like Equilibrium?

Yeah that's totally what I was thinking coming into this thread. lol

Yes, I was thinking equilibrium. I know they are called 'grammmaton clerics' in the movie. However, I'm pretty sure their full title is 'clerics of the Tetragrammaton.' A not-so-subtle reference to how big brother is god in the movie.
