Hello.

I will be running a PbP game on these here forums for Pathfinder 2e.

The game so far will consist of The Fall of Silverpine Watch, which is an introductory adventure written for D&D5e by The Angry GM, but converted to PF2e by yours truly.

This will lead into playing through the recently released PF2e revision of Crown of the Kobold King, but set in a homebrew world so there will be a few changes and variations on the adventure as written.

This will likely get us to Lvl 5-7ish at which point, if the game is jamming and all are in agreement, we can continue playing shorter scale adventures.

I am just now getting acquainted with PF2e and this will be my first time running it, so this game is really meant for other players new to the system.

Recruitment

As of right now, I am less interested in a character build than I am in learning about you as a person. Who are you? Where are you? In the world, in life? What is your history of gaming? What interests you in this game? What is your honest commitment level?

For example:
I am a 38 (almost 39) year old male. I work as a licensed clinical counselor in Santa Fe NM, but I'm also a career artist. I am a new father with a 4 mth old baby at home. I first got into AD&D when I was in middle school, but fell out of the hobby until a few years ago when I started playing on these forums. I've run a few one shot in person games, and had a pretty solid long running homebrew campaign going until it became a victim of pandemic politics. I still run one PF1e campaign on the forums, and am active in one PF2e Beginner's Box game. I typically prefer creating and designing my own homebrew adventures, but with the current demands of my life, I'm happy to run some published stuff with modifications, an early levels game with the possibility of further adventuring. I can honestly commit to a post a day if things are jamming, but with most games it typically turns out to a post every 2-3 days. I'll do my darndest not to let the game stall out.

I'm looking for 4-5 players.

I'm hoping to get the game up and running the first week of the new year.

Setting

Here is the document explaining the setting.

Here are the deities available.

The setting is a homebrew mix inspired by the deities and lore of Purple Duck Games and the bare bones setting information provided in Fall of Silverpine Watch.

You will be playing a character from the capital city of Darkwater Crossing, part of a newly formed adventuring party. However, do not write up a backstory as of yet. We will do that together once player selections are made. However, please read through the setting as this may inspire some ideas about appropriate builds.

Build

Classes and Backgrounds: Since this is meant to be an introductory game, please limit Class and Background options to the Core Rulebook, anything with the Common Trait.

Ancestry: As per the demographics of Darkwater Crossing, roll a d100. 1-70 is human, 71-85 is halfling, 86-93 is elf, 94-98 is dwarf, and 99-100 is other (gnome, goblinoid, orc, kobold, ratfolk, catfolk, or tengu).

Starting Level: 1st

Gosh, I don't know, I think that's it. Feel free to ask questions. Please have your submissions in by Friday 12/23.

good luck.

I am soooo excited for this one!

What to play? What Ancestry? What color will my eyes be! So many options it's like choosing what to drink at 7-11! My nemesis!

I may need a minute...

If it helps, your Ancestry is based on a die roll.

Honestly, you had me at "kobolds". :p

I'd love to join. A bit about myself: I'm 35 years old and I've been writing and RPing since I was very smol. As tabletop RPGs go, I've played Pathfinder 1e and 2e, and 3.5, 4e and 5e of The Other Game. I love writing dialogue and other character bits. But what can I say, I like rolling big numbers in a fight, too. I've been looking for a regular game/group, maybe this can be it.

I live in Kentucky and I've spent a lot of my life bouncing from job to job, but recently I've finally found one that fits me well and actually feels meaningful. I suppose now that my basic needs have been met, I've now begun to realize just how heckin' lonely I am. I have 0 real-life friends and not enough online ones. Of course I'm not expecting y'all to be my besties or anything, but I do hope we end up getting along, if nothing else.

Not sure what else to say... I never quite know how to introduce myself :p... but anyway, here's my ancestry roll: 1d100 ⇒ 15

LOL... Oh it's gonna be like that.

54 Male and a career systems guy (IT/ERP) from NY, teaching myself Unreal Engine 5 and exploring video game dev. Run a Discord server around different VTTs out there. Fun times.

Started with D&D at 15... been playing Pathfinder 1E since 3.5E days, never looked back. Strong commitment to any PbP I start, but not overly fussy when RL affects DM or other players.

I like to round out parties, meaning take on roles, add balance, etc... I'll play anything and try to be the best at it role/roll. So typically wait to see what's needed. Enjoy the challenge.

Currently in a few games here, dabbling in a Discord game and on Rolegate. Recently discovered Harpy, PbP platform.

Kids are older.

Hope to some day publish an adventure.

Never played Pathfinder 2E, would like to try it. I tend to like custom magic items and crafting... so unsure about the system.

Ancestry: 1d100 ⇒ 28

Oh, I tend to use google drive for things like tracking loot, discord for sharing images, handouts and the like, and I can look into running the maps on Roll20.

I really tend to over think these types of things; introductions.

I have been gaming since 19(yes that's a 19)82. My older cousin needed two players for his D&D campaign. My twin and I got drafted. He gave us a copy of The Hobbit and said finish by next weekend and pick who you want to play.

I picked Gandalf.

I have been happily involved in many memorable games, sessions, campaigns, epic f%~$ing years and many cries later moments that I will cherish forever!

Gaming has been the 1 constant in an otherwise Rollercoaster ride of a life.

Thanks Gary!

That being said, my home group switched from 3.5 to PF1e happily and excited by its play.

PF1e is my favorite RPG until PF2e was introduced.

Nice work Paizo!

I applaud you, djdust! It's exciting and a bit finger nail chewing to be certain...lol.

Thank you for running!

Dotting for now. Not at home, but I'll get something up!

Hello, thanks for running this, the setting sounds interesting and I have several ideas percolating.

Here is a bit about me… I’ve been playing rpgs since Jr High (this is now called middle school) with basic, expert, and ad&d. Along the way I’ve played a bunch of other systems (Star Frontiers, Boot Hill, Gangbusters, Marvel Superheroes, Traveller, GURPS, Mouseguard, and many more) but fantasy settings are my favorite. I’ve made lifelong friends through gaming and have been playing pathfinder 1e, biweekly, with the same group, and some of our grown kids now, since 2010. We had a short foray into 2e but quickly returned to 1e because there were several APs we still wanted to play and we had already invested a lot of time and money into 1e(plus we are min/maxers at heart and enjoy a degree of system mastery with 1e).

On a personal note I’m a 53 years old male originally from NY but have lived in the Midwest (Indiana) for the last 28 years. I have 2 kids (one in college) and have been married for 23 years. I’ve been employed as an actuary with the same company for 17 years and work from home 2-3 days a week. As far as other hobbies go I am a voracious reader, very amateur guitar player, firearms enthusiast, and avid board gamer who likes to cook (I know, my wife hit the jackpot). I also enjoy playing Baldur’s Gate ee on my iPad when I have time.

For pbp I have the time to post everyday and my life is pretty scheduled so I will be able to give you notice of anything that will impact my posting. I’ve only been on the boards for a short while and disappeared for a bit when my father passed away. Nevertheless, I am committed to seeing this through if selected.

Let’s roll some virtual dice!

Will cook something up.

So...Hi.

Yet another 50-something year old player (54 to be exact) who came to terms with the fact that I simply loved roleplaying when I was about 13. My first character ever was a halfling who lived exactly 16 minutes into our first dungeon, where he was bitten by a poison spider and died. So there's that. lol

Once only a player of everything from AD&D to ShadowRun and Marvel Superheros, I eventually graduated to the position of primary DM of our college-then-grown up-group, running a tabletop MSH game first and then a 3.5 pbp on discord for about three years. It was amateur, but it was fun.

I live in Michigan near Detroit with my wife and four children ranging from 22 down to 12 years old. I work on an assembly line building transmissions for semi-trucks and buses, and on the side I'm an aspiring author who's reasonably close to finishing the first draft of his first novel.

I like long walks through the woods, sunsets on the beach, and of course, Long Island Ice Tea... ;) Wait. What was I saying?

S'okay. Enough of the Gaming-Tinder! Play Ball!

1-70 is human, 71-85 is halfling, 86-93 is elf, 94-98 is dwarf, and 99-100 is other (gnome, goblinoid, orc, kobold, ratfolk, catfolk, or tengu).

====

Hello, I'm also in the 50's group (51). I'm from Sydney, Australia. An accountant, carer, wife and mother (one human son, 25 years old, and one fur-son kitty 2 years old). Ever since I can remember, fantasy has been my favourite genre. I was never a gamer growing up (back then I was a dancer/singer and more of an outdoor tomboy explorer and sporty type, who has broken more bones than anyone I know). To round off my outdoor adventures, I was a voracious reader and a writer of poetry (I've even had some poetry published in an anthology many years ago). I've started writing my own novels, but I have three sitting unfinished and unpublished. I enjoy photography (shared pursuit with hubby) and being creative/artistic on a colouring app (not an artist, however I do like to colour.)

In 2011, a writer/gamer friend of mine introduced me to Paizo and online RPGs and I was hooked. I really enjoy creating characters - more rounded, not so perfect characters as I like them to be real and not superheroes. I'm not into optimising/min-maxing (not shaming those who do), but roleplaying and growing organically as a game progresses. Still, I am in awe of people who have a character developed to level 20 in their minds when they've just started a game at level 1. It's just not how my mind works. ;) PF1e is my favourite RPG and I've started learning PF2e (hello to the djdust and Dorian 'Grey' :)). I understand not all characters will get along in a game - I just dislike when a party picks one character at the outset and then consistently set them on the outer - bearing the brunt of party's ire and censure - doesn't make for a fun game (be there, done that, threw the t-shirt away). So, in saying that, if I'm enjoying a game and feel like I'm adding value and can play/grow my character among the others, then I am fully and happily invested. I am interested in gaining more experience in PF2e as I know quite a few GMs on the board who prefer to run PF2e games over PF1e. Thank you for wanting to run a PF2e game, djdust. At this stage of my life, I prefer a medium paced game (I'm okay with slow, but I just don't have the time for a fast-paced/neck-breaking game, especially with different time zones in play). I can post at least 1/day on the week days - weekends I have to play it by ear as it's family and catching up on chores time and also that is when my carer duties come into play (still, if we're in combat and it's a weekend, I'll post or ask someone to bot me if I can't post in a timely fashion).

Hello DJDust,

I'm a late 30s Californian and got my start with computer RPGs, first Baldur's Gate and later Neverwinter Nights. Joined my first live group playing AD&D after moving to Maryland for a job as an engineer and wanting to meet some folks, while also getting into World of Warcraft for a time. Decided to make a career change and went to law school, where I found another group playing 4E D&D. Also met my future wife in law school and got a job back in California. Now we have a 3-year-old! And three small dogs.

Lacking time to commit to a regular gaming day, I picked up PBP to scratch my roleplaying itch, and have really come to enjoy it. The 4E group I had been playing with decided to switch to Pathfinder, and while I didn't get a chance to play it with them, the change inspired me to examine and appreciate PF1e. I'm totally new to PF2e, though I've been teaching myself the basics recently. I post pretty regularly except when work becomes overwhelming, which happens from time to time, but I still make my way back--you already know my posting habits from your other game.

Ancestry: 1d100 ⇒ 75 That's the third halfling!

Hello Ariarh!

Ha. Hello, fellow Halfling. I was thinking hard, too, but I’m leaning toward cleric now. LOL

I have already played cleric, wizard, Fighter, alchemist (currently in SoT), and about to try Druid for KM....lol.

Thanks! Working time!

Not at all.

Hey djdust, you know who I am - your least favorite missing Harrow inquisitor.

I am looking to play an introductory PF2e game and have been for a while. Having said that, as you probably know, I’m pretty…grumpy…about…stuff…so there are some races I won’t want to play, so as the Harrow, lets consult fate.

Please no halfling, please no dwarf: 1d100 ⇒ 62 Phew!

Will be making a human thaumaturge.

[Edit] Except no thaumaturges. Ok then. A human. Something.

It seems I'm in the younger category of players, only 43. I'm a high school teacher out of Indiana, and I've been gaming since elementary school. I started when I saw a commercial for HeroeQuest on TV. That was the most amazing thing I had ever seen! Both of my older brothers played it with me on a consistent basis. Following this, I started playing Tunnels and Trolls with a couple of my 6th grade buddies. Into middle school, I read the Hobbit and began D&D. I can't remember if it was D&D or AD&D. Since then, I've played Every version of D&D, except 4th. That's when my group switched to Pathfinder. So far, I've only GMed 5th edition, and that's for my high school gaming group I started a few years ago. We usually have 30 or so members in that club. My home group has played P1E since it came out, and we are just now beginning to switch over to 2E. I've played in a few PF2E society games, and I have a few PF1E society characters. I typically have two or three pbp games I play. My home group tries to get together once a month, but you know how that goes...

I'd love to be able to join a longer campaign in pbp. I check it multiple times a day, but try not to input more than my fair share.

I think that I'd like to play a sorcerer. I don't think that I have played a sorcerer since 3.0, and he was multi-classed with rogue.

Just FYI, I want to keep it simple for starters, but as the game progresses, we can open up to other classes and options.

Liberty's Edge

1d100 ⇒ 27 HUMAN!

Ok, lets see. A 55-year-old male from Northern Alberta, Canada. Have been playing TTRPG's since the late 1970's. My older brother brought home the game from his university and my first ever game was Christmas 1978!!
Since that time I have played many more games in many systems...from early GURPS and DragonQuest to HARN and Shadowrun. Traveler was one of my favorite early systems, but I gave everything a shot at one point or another...lol

Not too sure what else you would like to know?? I work as the Heritage Coordinator for the Town of Peace River in northern Alberta and have worked in the museum field for over 30 years. Served in the Canadian military and held the rank of Lieutenant.

@djdust: Are you looking to keep the builds 'core'? Just things from the core rule book?

Just Classes and Backgrounds limited to Core Rule Book for now. Other options such as feats and gear are limited to Common.

If this is your first foray into 2e, I'd recommend sticking to Core.

This is Smiles-a-lots submission Valkor Oso, human monk and acolyte of Shankhil.

If you have any questions or build suggestions let me know. Good luck with your recruitment.

Appearance:

Valkor is a giant and massive man standing a full head over six feet, broad shouldered and deep of chest, with a massive corded neck and heavily muscled limbs that end in gnarled callused hands that attest to a life of hard training. The monk is well tanned, from constant exposure to the elements, with almond colored, weathered skin, that accentuates the hard, dangerous lines of his body.

The large man has sinister, yet handsome face with prominent cheek bones and strong chin with a mouth that always looks like he’s about to scowl. His face is framed by receding short dark hair with a well-trimmed mustache and beard the same color. His gaze is knowing and penetrating with grey eyes, the color of the sky right before a storm, that appear to miss little.

The imposing Shankhil monk looks older than his years and carries himself with an air of confidence. Valkor favors loose linen clothing in shades of tan and a fringed purple girdle adorns his waist. There is an engraved ring on his left hand depicting a circular gate with dagger-shaped keyhole. He speaks with a loud booming voice like stone breaking.

Personality:

Valkor Oso is a serious and ardent worshiper of Shankhil, The Gatekeeper. As such he tries to exercise temperance and patience on his journey towards self-perfection. He is stoic but is stern when necessary, often standing up for the down trodden and oppressed. While Valkor is dour those who are close to him appreciate his wry sense of humor.

The big man is a lover of debate, learning, and physical challenges, embracing these as experiences on his path of enlightenment. Additionally, Valkor is polite, soft spoken, and well-mannered but isn’t afraid to speak his mind. His deep voice often gives advice in riddles, aphorisms, and metaphors with a knowing look.

A week from today is the cutoff. My selection will be based more on personal answers, play history, forum activity than on crunch. Crunch is secondary so don't sweat too much about it. Things are open to change after selection. And we will work on fluff together after selection to help with creating a cohesive group.

Ok, ok.

About OSW:

I’m 48, living in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney Australia with wife, one son and two dogs, some chickens. I have been an envirnmental and social activist, dental cream filling machine operator, ground crew for arborists, teacher’s aide, carpenter, screenprinter, buyer for a popular survival-themed syndicated TV show and a few other things. I have just stepped down as the President of my son’s P+C and before and during that time was the President of the Football Club. I am also a member of my local Rural Fire Service. I am a massive introvert who is somehow able to interact with fellow humans. By preference I am a writer and illustrator.

I started with Basic DnD in 1982, the year my brother hit high school and was introduced to roleplaying. I was 8 years old and was made to be a halfling because “…at 10th level you’ll be able to….blah blah blah…stuff I didn’t understand and was probably wrong….etc etc etc”. I was instantly hooked, and before long I was running games for my brother and friends. In my late teens we started and tried a kajillion systems like: Traveller, GURPS, Talislanta, Star Frontiers, Gamma World, TOON, Car Wars, Mekton, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Battletech/Mechwarrior, Palladium/Rifts, Paranoia, Tunnels and Trolls, Twilight 2000, Dragon Warriors, Fighting Fantasy etc etc as well as mulriple home-brewed systems my friends and I came up with. And forays into gamebooks, boardgames (Talisman!) etc.

I fell out of gaming during my twenties but kept up with “advances” in various editions of various games. I liked 3e, and 4e too, though only ever played one session of the latter. I discovered Pathfinder via the Kobold Press blog and from there the Paizo forums. I hit the homebrew forums hard, and also submitted and had accepted articles to Wayfinder, Kobold Quarterly as well as participated in crowdfunded works by Kobold Press where I was published in Midgard Tales, Journeys to the West and Legends of Midgard. I also produced a single issue for Kobold Press’ Midgard campaign setting that took more than three years to complete: Yggdrassil Fanzine - it’s free and you can download it right here!

I’ve played in a bunch of PbP’s here on Paizo and had a million die due to GM’s disappearing mysteriously. I myself have had two breaks from PbP where I suffered overload or personal burnout. I don’t play maximised characters because I don’t often know…how…to…maximise…stuff, and often try to make characters that are interesting mechanically in theory, but may not actually work as intended. I would echo Ariarh Kane in not being able to “build” a character to 20 levels ahead of time, and frankly find the concept anathematic as it appears to take no account of the possibilities of the passage of the game or its environment. I like to play characters who inhabit a world and act according to their mind, heart and history, and who can if not get along, at least interact with their companions. I don’t believe in needing to fill roles, or that RPGs are a “team game” but do understand and participate in teamwork! I hear PF2 is all about teamwork. Weirdly, as a devout atheist I have played a lot of priests, warpriests, clerics and inquisitors! I struggle with spellcasters, and loathe ranged types after a long standing IRL game we had as teenagers where the ranger “scouted around” a lot, and foolishly never died by fighting face to face like a proper meatbag.

I’m looking to learn more about PF2, and played a bit of Fall of Plaguestone. I’m currently running an IRL game in PF1 of the classic Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh series for my brother and our kids (aged 11-18) which has reached the third adventure in that series. For this game I imagine I will submit a Human Fighter, as I find the rules jar a lot from my knowledge of PF1 and I want to understand the basics, and I’m not allowed to make a Thaumaturge because djdust is a poop.

On that final note: I have played in one of djdust’s other campaigns which I can say was meticulously presented with a rich, multifaceted and personally entwined campaign intrespersed with memorable environmentally interesting combats. Those accepted into this game will be treated to a heartfelt story. And for anyone that wants to improve their play, I cannot recommend any more highly Painlords Being a better Doomed Hero cribbed and expanded upon from Doomed Hero’s guide. I played with Doomed Hero a few times and they always made a great story.

I think pretty much the same. In all my games, in my headcanon, dragons are basically immortal creatures that grow more and more powerful with age, until someone or something comes along and kills them.

An important note, in this setting, Bahamut is the deity of ALL dragons and dragonkin, not just the metallic ones.

Not at all.

Okay then, here we go! I'm a 43yo software engineer in Seattle, originally from the midwest.

I came up on AD&D2e in the early 90s, enjoying lots of Dark Sun and some Forgotten Realms. Then for [reasons] I sort of got away from it during college and a long time after. I returned to it with PF1 in 2015 and have been enjoying that and PF2 ever since, and some Starfinder. This entails lots and lots of PFS play on the boards, but also I have a home game within my immediate family (wife and two of the kids who are into it).

For whatever reason I tend to gravitate towards playing casters (Wizards).

Had a change of heart. I’m not making a submission for this game, but I stand by my comments about the awesomeness of djdust, except the poop part!

Ok...here is my first stab at a character...

Looks good at first glance. However, as we are not playing on Golarion, Varisian is not a language, and Erastil is not a deity. The most comparable deity to Erastil is perhaps Saren, although Saren feels more like a cross between Pan and The Green Man.

Had a change of heart. I’m not making a submission for this game, but I stand by my comments about the awesomeness of djdust, except the poop part!

Aww, and you wrote such a long personal summary...

Well, let me return praise as OSW as a player. He built and played one of the most interesting characters I have seen on the board and I won't stop pestering him to return to that game :p I hope we play again soon sometime, someway.

Agreed, I am currently in a game with OSW and his low int cleric is hilarious!

This is the Halfling character I've built for the game (I'm sure I'll tweak her a little and add the fluff etc if selected for the game). Her name is Elry Larkwing, Halfling (Twilight Halfling heritage), background; Emmisary, Cleric (doctrine: Cloistered Cleric), Domain: Family, Deity: Aleria, The Love of Life. I'll add a personality blurb soon. Dinner time here in Oz, so I'm taking a little break. :)

Elry's Character Sheet

If there are mistakes, please let me know and I'll edit the sheet. Thank you kindly!

You will be playing a character from the capital city of Darkwater Crossing, part of a newly formed adventuring party. However, do not write up a backstory as of yet. We will do that together once player selections are made. However, please read through the setting as this may inspire some ideas about appropriate builds.

So it seems we're not determining background stories, but it's okay to build crunch now?

Aw, thanks guys. Like I said, I try to play characters that inhabit their world as it appears to them.

Correct. In an effort to create better group cohesion, we'll develop backstory in a more collaborative way.

Ariarh, unless I'm playing my cleric wrong, the spells gained from your deity are added to your spell list as options to choose from when preparing spells. They don't give you an extra spell slot automatically for that spell.

For example, Soothe doesn't belong on the Divine Spell List, but worshipping Aleria gives you access to that spell at 1st level.

Hope that makes sense and I hope I'm getting it right.

I wasn’t sure either, djdust. Your take on it makes sense. I’ll fix the 1st level spells once I’m back on the computer tonight. Thanks. :)

Addendum: Okay, it's fixed now. :)

p.s. I played around with her ability scores and changed STR and CHA. Just a FYI.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You two are professionals already! (And you just got 2nd level)

You're very kind, Dorian. I'm looking forward to seeing the stats of your Halfling Bard. :)

@Ariah - I really like your character sheet with all the links. Is there a template somewhere or did you build it out yourself?

Thanks, Smiles-a-lot! :) I believe the char sheet template was given to us in another PF2e game by Dorian Grey. I can remove my details and leave the unfilled stat sheet for you to use. I will post a link to the sheet (with html coding included) once I'm done.
