Round 2

Trying to comply with the paladin's request, Herman advances adjacent to Hagan, and casts light on his weapon, illuminating the room much better than before.

No need to kill the mites and derro. Concentrate on the lady on the stage! She's the real threat. These others are just trying to escape! Except for those two!"

Herman points out the two advancing mites, who stand out as the rest retreat for the room's exit.

Move Action advance 20' to BD25. Cast Light, standard action.

Does the woman or the two mites have any weapons they have yet to draw?

I am being a little vague as to what the opponents have, since the distances start off as long (~120 ft), the light is dim, etc.

Jani strains to make out the details of the woman and mites. The woman appears to have a holding a bow and has a sword at her belt, and is armored with a buckler and a breastplate (all rather obscured by billowing robes). The mites appear to have small blades out and a quiver of darts on their back, and don't appear to be armored, though it could be cloth or leather.

Hagan charges a derro and swings mightily, but is not quite accurate enough.

Hagan moves forward and casts light on Hagan's axe, and the room brightens around him.
Since the ambient light is Dim, Normal light now stretches out 40' from Hagan and 40' from Storn.

Turan rushes forward swinging his three section staff.

As Turan moves by, the little mite stabs at him, but Turan only feels a small thump through his armor.
1 pt of non-lethal damage. I don't know if that stops a movement like actual damage does; I'll say not.

GM Roll:

Longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d8 ⇒ 3

The masked woman fires a longbow at Herman, but it is a very bad shot, flying wide. She screams horribly in frustration at this, and something seems to happen to the mites and derros, causing them to be even more terrified than before.

Her body then moves in a subtle and strange way and suddenly there are two of her, weaving in and out!

Torvic continues forward, dodging behind a drunken mite to flank, with Turan, one of the mites from the dais, bringing his axe against him.
Torvic's battleaxe: 1d20 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) - 1 + 2 = 141d8 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

Failing the acro check only stops movement if you're trying to move through a foe's space, as opposed to a foe's threatened squares.

Jani moves forward 30 feet and aims at the woman, narrowing their red eyes and sighting through the crossbow.

Light crossbow, within (just barely) first range increment: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

damage assuming that confirms: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8

Move to BE21, fire at the woman, it looks like it's 75 or 80 feet away. If I miscounted, then apply a -2 to the rolls. Since she's 10 feet up, I don't think I'd have soft cover from other people in front of me.

Yes, you can move through those squares, although they might be more slippery.

Good clarification, Jani, about the damage issue. I was misremembering.

It's 90' exactly from you to her, not counting up, but I was discounting the soft cover, too. (I should probably draw a diagram and figure things out...)

1, copy; 2, her: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Jani aims and fires, hitting the woman midair, but it is unclear under the conditions how badly injured she is.

*** Please activate your personal Confusion field before reading further ***

OK, I tried something strange. The derros and mites with yellow 'halos' are ones that have moved in a way that may have generated an AoO by going by someone, leaving a threatened area, etc. You can see their path by the red line trailing them. (It may not apply to everyone - I think Jani had a crossbow out, for example, and so was not threatening their vicinity.)

The red dots on the derros or mites indicates that they have been injured.

AX to AY 36 is a secret door that a number of derro and mites slipped through. However, something strange happens:

Suddenly, mites and derros are running every direction they can away from the masked woman, fearful or even completely panicked. You even see a look of terror briefly pass through Torvic's eyes before he steals himself, hitting another derro with his battleaxe, but he still appears shaken.

Turan is up (Round 2] and so is Herman (Round 3)! Everyone that has one can decide about taking an AoO, if they like.

DESCRIPTION
This two-spouted funnel is used to safely mix two alchemical splash weapons into a single flask. Using the vial requires 10 minutes and a DC 25 Craft (alchemy) check; a half-elf has a +5 bonus on this check. Failing the check means both splash weapon are destroyed. Success means the two materials are safely mixed into one vial that is the same volume as a normal splash weapon vial; when thrown as a splash weapon, the mixture has the effects of both component substances and creatures are affected as if hit by both. The mixture becomes inert after 24 hours. Only liquids may be mixed with the funnel. The bearer can use it to mix an alchemical splash weapon with either holy water or unholy water, but the Craft (alchemy) DC increases to 30; half-elves still get the +5 bonus on this check. The funnel does not work on potions, elixirs, extracts, or other materials. Mixing a substance with a similar or identical substance (such as alchemist's fire with alchemist's fire) has no effect. A mixture cannot be combined with another mixture.

Price 11.3 gp; Weight 1 lb.
DESCRIPTION
This simple clay pot has two sealed, airtight inner chambers containing alchemical liquids. The jar is thrown as a splash weapon. It shatters on impact, covering the target with a mixture of the two liquids. One round later on your turn, the liquids react and explode with concussive force. The target takes 1 point of sonic damage, is deafened for 1d4 rounds, and must make a DC 12 Fortitude save or be stunned for 1 round. Creatures within 5 feet of the explosion take 1 point of sonic damage. The target can use a full-round action to scrape or wash off the liquid before it detonates, depositing the material in its square or an adjacent square; the material detonates as normal, though the original target only takes damage as if it were within 5 feet of the explosion.

Sorry Turan. Yeah, the derro and all but two of the mites are just confusing fluff, and can be safely ignored. But, since people wanted to attack, I'm not one to argue. Also, it should be something as a mess, as they are staggering drunkenly every which way in and out of the light, and more so now because of some strange panic.

Turan, Three mites and two derro ran by you. I'll just pick a mite.
Turan whirls his three-part staff and destroys a mite as it moves past, then moves forward to give a strong blow to one of the resilient derro, who still stands.

If it's cold iron, Jani used a cold iron bolt previously.

"She has some sort of damage reduction! Cold iron doesn't seem to penetrate! Illusions may be useless! Friend Hagan, call upon Erastil to smite this creature! "

Ah, you didn't say, so I assumed the bolt was standard. But, as it happens, she - even though surrounded by degenerate fey - is not vulnerable to cold iron, like the mites are (the derro are so far from their fey origins that they are not resistant). So, that bolt narrowed it, at least.

Jani cocks their head to one side, focuses her malevolent gaze on the creature, and whispers, "Soon, the nightmares will be yours."

Evil eye targeting Saves, DC 16 Will to reduce to 1 rd, otherwise 8 rds

Jani also retrieves a wand of curing, and a potion of cure light wounds with their tail, and holds it out where Torvic could take it to heal himself.

Turan will attempt to move to BB36 and try and flank lady evil. Feel free to roll a will save for me.

Turan moves forward closing with the dark aldy and looking to kill.

She's 20 feet up, Hagan. You'd need to use your bow.

Hmm. Forgot about the floating. Assume then that I threw my spear and missed. I'll pull out my bow, next round.

Hagan cursed as his spear went flying wildly away from his mark.

Wuliem--shakily--moves forward to BC31.

He reaches into his pockets, producing another jar.
He throws it at her!

Touch AC: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 2 = 81 + 4 = 5

burstjar:
Burst Jar 5/5

I should have said:
The woman-creature seems to have been affected by Herman's silent scream, but, as her actions show, she was not dazed by it.

Storn, It says, "When poured on a weapon and placed over a hot flame for a full round, they melt and form a temporary coating on the weapon." You'll need a hot flame, which we'll let Hagan's dropped torch count as - I think that was about BC15 or so, or you can get another fire going. It's open to interpretation whether each piece of ammunition needs to be done separately, but we'll say you could do all 10 pieces in one full round.

GM Roll:

Will save: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 = 26

Jani casts her evil eye on the evil creature, and she seems affected, but for how long?

Turan advances, flanking the flying woman-thing.
Although there is no actual "flanking" for range attacks, which doesn't make a lot of sense.

Wuliem's previous miss suddenly explodes, shaking Turan!
1 pt of sonic damage from the explosion in BC37 (which would happen on Wuliem's turn, and Wuliem went after you).

Miss Direction: 1d8 ⇒ 3
The burst jar lands just to the north of the woman, starting its congealing reaction.
[ooc[This time marked with a blue dot.[/ooc]

Hagan misses with his spear, as the woman-creature is farther away than he thought, a fault of the play of strange lights and shadows (and being shaken).
Miss direction: 1d8 ⇒ 4
It lands in BB34, marked with the brown line. (There are no rules for figuring out where it will go, but perhaps just use the other miss direction rules, at least for far-off misses?)

Round 5

At this the woman creature flies closer and descends slightly, then gestures with the unholy symbol around her neck, "Feel the embrace of Lamashtu!", causing a wave of energy to come forth, sapping your life force.

Will Saves:

Hagan's Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Herman's Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Jani's Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Storn's Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Turan's Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Wuliem's Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

[spoiler=GM Roll]
1d6 ⇒ 5

Mite dart vs. Torvic: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 101d3 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 + 1 = 3
The mite throws a dart at Torvic, hitting him.

[ooc]Hagan and Wuliem take 5 negative energy damage, everyone else takes 2.

Torvic's axe: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 191d8 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Confirm?: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 02d8 - 2 ⇒ (3, 6) - 2 = 7
Torvic rushes the last mite and hits it with blow strong enough to take it down, ending the threat.

Everyone it up! (Herman technically goes before her.) She is at +15 ft.

Curious about how spell effects like 15' cone work in 3 dimensions? If she is 15' in the air, I can stand adjacent to her, cast the spell, not worry about AoO, and also not hit any of my mates, since they are on the ground, and I'm firing the spell upwards? Or does the Area of Effect remain the same regardless of altitude?

Seeing the silent scream has some effect on the evil caster, Herman dials the same spell up again, releasing his ear-piercing sounds that only she can hear.

Cast Ear Piercing Scream again. DC 15 Fort Save for half-damage and no Daze. Since it shouldn't threaten AoO and if the spell effect works up above, he steps forward to adjacent square, if not, he stays firm.

Wuliem's confidence has--once again--been shaken!

He takes out an extract and drinks it.

extract:
Targeted Bomb Admixture

School transmutation; Level alchemist 1

CASTING

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S

EFFECT

Range personal
Target you
Duration 1 round/level

DESCRIPTION

Upon drinking an extract created with this formula, you make a significant change to your magical reserve that modifies the nature of all bombs you create and throw during this extract’s duration. This effect on your magical reserve has no effect on any discoveries that you use to modify your bombs, but you can only have one admixture effect (formula with the word “bomb admixture” in its title) active at a time. If you drink another bomb admixture, the effects of the former bomb admixture end and the new one becomes active.

When you throw bombs, they can only hit a direct target; they do not splash. However, the bomb deals its base damage plus double your Intelligence modifier instead of just its base damage plus your Intelligence modifier.

I was trying not to think too hard about the third dimension since, as far as I know, there really aren't good rules around for handling it despite there being a lot of flying critters (and I haven't wanted to break out a^2 + b^2 = c^2 unless it will really make a difference). I think you just have to 'wing it', so to speak. ;-) Since she is currently out of melee range except for reach weapons (her feat are 15' off the ground, or about 10' above your head), she is not adjacent and so no AoOs. I think you could easily get her in a cone without getting anybody else. Let me know if this changes any of your actions.

Turan, Do you carry big rocks around? o.O It would be an improvised weapon, though, so at -4, but it misses either way.
Turan's rock is powerfully thrown, but misses - and seems deflected!

GM Roll:

Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 - 2 = 13

Under Jani's evil eye, she seems more strongly affected by Herman's silent, ear-shattering scream!

Hagan shakily misses with his bow, and Wuliem drinks his extract - finding confidence in the bottle, as they say?

Jani and Storn are up!
