Well, this was a much bigger project than I had originally anticipated, but I think it was well worth it.

Please feel free to view and download the PDF here. (This article is from the PFO wiki, however, most people cannot view it there without significant hardship. That is why I have PDF'd it.)

I will also politely request that Nihimon link the file in the Public Shared Folder so that everyone can view/share.

Also, please share your comments and feedback here.

Happy (Keyword) Match-Making!

Dazyk, can you put it in a Folder and then share that Folder? Or share it with me directly via email? I need it to show up in "My Drive" to be able to move it to the public share.

Goblin Squad Member

Sent you an email invitation to share.

Let me know if that doesn't work! Was having some issues with the sharing link...

Goblin Squad Member

Got it, but I had to upload it myself, so you won't be able to make updates.

For some reason it didn't show up in My Drive.

Goblin Squad Member

No probs :)

Thanks again!

In the EPro vs. EPow examples, I suggest the following formatting, for clarity:

Keywords wrote:

1. The Wizard has 3 Basic Keywords and 1 Advanced Keyword matching between his Steal Speed Feat and his Wand. The Fighter is matching 4 Basic Keywords from his Armor Feat to his armor.

EPro EPow Effect Result
7 4 Slowed 26 (130%)

2. The Wizard has 2 Basic Keywords and 1 Advanced Keyword matching between his Steal Speed Feat and his Wand. The Fighter is matching 1 Advanced and 4 Basic Keywords from his Armor Feat to his armor.
EPro EPow Effect Result
6 7 Slowed 16 (80%)

3. The Wizard has 3 Basic Keywords and 2 Advanced Keyword matching between his Steal Speed Feat and his Wand. The Fighter is matching 2 Advanced and 3 Basic Keywords from his Armor Feat to his armor.
EPro EPow Effect Result
11 11 Slowed 20 (100%)

Although this version takes up more space, I think it will be much easier to follow.

Very nice, Dazyk. I will definitely be reading this for inspiration (and fact checking) when I get to it in my guide.

Great guide! You might want to mention that matching keywords for healing spells does NOT make them do more healing, so keywords for Clerics should be used for offensive spells.

Stephen Cheney has actually mentioned, over on the GW site, that Keyword matching WILL eventually affect healing as well.

And he has done so several times, so I expect it being in the pipeline.

The game maker's ability to make the game is sometimes limited by the programmer's ability to program the game.

^This. Unfortunately.

In my experience of the IRL world of games the limit is seldom the gamemaker as much as coins being the limitation...

Huh. I don't see the slot where I can drop in quarters to feed the Programmer meter.

It's right there!

.....

NO! NOT THERE!! oh gods help us! That looks uncomfortable....

Very good. Even a rogue who has been hit over the head 1 too many times by a plank with a nail in it can understand it.

You may want to add a couple of things:

Make it clear which parts are currently implemented and currently not implemented. This will stop stupid rogues crafting gear that is useless.

For the armour section - make it clear that, while you can wear armour of a certain tier, you need specific proficiency AND armour feat to activate the keywords, and that armour feat keywords are added every other level rather than every level, and the first advanced keyword is activated before the 4th basic keyword. This will stop stupid rogues crafting gear that is less than optimal.

The armour feat progression every two levels is noted in the Feat progression section, where you can see that the Advanced keyword is attained before the 4th Basic.

I am pretty disappointed with the wiki layout in the guide, so I'm actually making an updated version which will hopefully clear-up some of the other things you mentioned.

Thanks Kradlum!

Nice guide. hopefully after using the gear more in game it will make more sense. this system, sadly, will drive away many potential players, as it is confusing as hell. I understand the intent, but the system is complex enough to discourage many hopefuls.

Goblin Squad Member

Ah yes. You might want to put under that feat rank progression table "Note: This means you should progress from Tier 1 +2 gear to Tier 2 gear, skipping Tier 1 +3 gear altogether."

Goblin Squad Member

@Kradlum: that's not necessarily true; you just have to get the appropriate Feat Rank. I imagine most people will in order to open up more armour options. Anyway, I had thought that was pretty self I explanatory, I will revisit the wording in the revised version.

@Hardin: I dunno, I don't think it is overly complex... Personally I think it is interesting and mildly challenging; enough so to peak the interest. Also, I think once the basics are learnt it really makes perfect sense. That's why I try to focus on the fundamentals early on and get more complex as the guide progresses. Hopefully it does the trick.

I would add that part of the reason it is confusing as hell right now is the Dev's haven't provided a good means of learning it and the players are just starting to get around to really filling that gap.

Hopefully Dazyk's guide will be a huge leap forward with this.

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks Ss, I hope so too. That's why I appreciate the feedback, so keep it up!

Goblin Squad Member

This is really good--thank you so much. You did a great job designing a truly usable document that will be accessible to newer players (and dumber ones like me). Really impressed.

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks Mbando, I really appreciate that :)

The next version will hopefully be even better.

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

I can hardly wait to see the next version, then. Very well done.

Goblin Squad Member

Hey everyone!

I'm working on the 2.0 version of my guide, but need some help!

I really need a Glove or Boot piece of equipment so that I can get a screenshot of the keywords.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance!

Sure, I have a few of those, you can have them if you'd like. Most of my stuff is currently either at Brighthaven or at Keeper's Pass.

Goblin Squad Member

Thank you! I am currently in Keepers Pass.

I should be able to log on later tonight, but I thought to make it easier maybe you could just put the item up for sale in the Auction? No one ever checks it anyway LOL.

Does that work? Otherwise we will have to try to coordinate a time to both be on.

Let me know!

I'll put up some at the KP AH when the server goes back up (assuming I can get back online within the next hour or so, otherwise, it'll be in around 14 hours)

Okay, the following items are now on the KP AH for 1c each:

stocking cap +2 (head)
wool gloves +1 (glove)
basic slippers +1 (boot)
costume bracelet +0 (glove)
wool mittens +0 (glove)

Goblin Squad Member

Wow! Thank you very much!

With EE upon us, I strongly hope Goblinworks quickly changes the system to make this less of a joke. Direct one-to-one barter won't support a vibrant economy.

I'm looking forward to Version 2 of your guide. V1 was very useful.

Goblin Squad Member

@Dazyk,

This Keyword guide is immensely useful, thanks again!

Question: what is your next project? Might I recommend Reactive and Defensive feats as a candidate? :)
