What is your favorite city on Golarion?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

There are a lot of cities and a lot of expansion books for those cities.

I'm looking for the city that *you*, my fellow message-boarder, find the most interesting. It could be because you wrote it, or because the guidebook was the best, or because it has the best adventure path appearance - but all in all, what city of the many cities on the planet is most appealing to you?

Oppara, it has two colleges for bards. BARDS, in COLLEGE!

Korvosa. It remains my favourite city sourcebook. Plus Curse of the Crimson Throne is my favourite AP.

Kaer Maga, by a wide margin. There's just so much cool in that place.

I think an AP centered mostly around Kaer Maga would be great. I just wish it was a bigger city. It reminds me of Sharn from Eberron.

El. Not technically on Golarion, but you can walk there from Golarion.

Vigil. Nowhere on Golarion will you come closer to matching Camelot!

Kaer Maga if I have to choose a city that has plenty of detail.

But the one I think is the most potentially interesting places is Gogpodda. Imagine the Pacific garbage patch inhabited by gnomes. Besides just rubbish, imagine lost wrecks from all over the Arcadia, Avistan, Garund, and possibly even flotsam from Azlant all mixed together in one place. One of the most inquisitive races of Golarion dwelling therein, with access to magic and technology from many different locales.

Whitethrone.

Kaer Maga has lots of great writing / interesting things going on, Korvosa has the best AP-support, and there's others like Starfall, Caliphas, Pangolais, Quantinum, and Mechitar that I like some of the themes of, but I just love Whitethrone's overall atmosphere and styling the most.

I feel the same way.

Shadow Lodge

For a City that says EVIL, Whitethrone. (The main road is made of humanoid skulls. . .)

For potential adventures, hidden places, something new round every corner, Kaer Maga, (although Absalom comes close).

Absalom and Katapesh.

For me it's a toss up between Korvosa and Magnimar.

Magnimar..love the giant ruined bridge

Korvosa for me, far and away.

While I know staffers shouldn't play favorites, it really warms my heart to see all the Kaer Maga love in this thread. :D

I'll have to add in my vote for Korvosa. The excellent city guidebook has made Curse of the Crimson Throne very easy and enjoyable to run. There is so much interesting history, places, organisations and NPCs to help one bring the city to life. It has just the right amount of grit for my tastes with its corruption and organised crime, in the form of a legal thieves' guild and vice taxes. I love the awkward relationship the former colony has to its motherland. There is some diabolic influence seeping in with the Acadamae, church of Asmodeus, and the Hellknights, but it is still its own distinct entity. I love the way the city's govermental and militaristic power structure is a tangled bureaucratic mess. Really helps to bring out the fact that the place has a complicated history, and why it is a city in decline. I love the tensions between the lower and the upper class, and the racial tensions between the Chelaxian colonists and the native Varisians and Shoanti. And the secrets! So many awesome story hooks.

The Exchange

Riddleport! I'll never forget the first time I saw the Cyphergate.

Carrion Hill.. that place has some history and has changed hands so many times, you never know what you're going to find there. Also, its the Golarion city that reminds me the most of 'The Styes'.

Kaer Maga is my second favorite city.

A hardcover expansion, boxed set detailing the dungeons beneath it or AP set entirely within the city walls might lift it up one place, of course... Might be worth a shot. ;)

Falcon's Hollow!

Okay, so that's not really a city, just a town. For cities, I'll go Kaer Maga followed by Korvosa, Alkenstar, and Absalom.

Toss another Kaer Maga vote in the hat.

Kaer Maga fan here, too.

Honorable mentions to Riddleport, Magnimar, Korvosa, and Sandpoint. Varisia in general is a fantastic region.

Gotta give it up for Korvosa, although that would be smashed into the ground if there was an Absalom hardcover.

Sovereign Court

Oppara followed by Absalom

This really seems like a thing that needs to happen.

Any city with a Bard College!

Kaer Maga for the win!

Cassomir has proven very interesting to me. It doesn't seem that big, but you could potential mine elements of both sea adventures and dungeon adventures (through Cassomir's Locker).

Sovereign Court

I find myself consistently drawn to Daggermark for my favourite city.

Kaer Maga. So much depth to plumb...

Ilizmagorti for me. A little Venice flavor with pirates and underground to obvious secrets and evil.

Grand Lodge

Absalom.

Really, Absalom is my my top 5 -- then, in order: Korvosa, Egorian, Augustana, Nisroch, Ilizmagorti, Magnimar and Katapesh.

But it's a shame the designers seem to refuse to do much with the Flagship Location of the campaign setting. Absalom needs so much more development!

Sovereign Court

Another Vote for Absalom!

The Starstone, the Carinlands, each unique district that is a city of its own and the melting pot of all cultures in Inner Sea, make it my favorite. A place I could GM/Play multiple campaigns in.

That's because Absalom is destined to be Erik's opus, and he refuses to do anything in half measures. One day he'll reveal his glorious city-child, and all will quail in love and fear...

Korvosa all the way.

Going just by canonical information, we have Absalom, Kaer Maga, Korvosa, Magnimar, Whithrone and Oppara vying for the top spot.

If I add my own stuff and what has developed in my Golarion campaigns, then you have to add Daggermark, Katapesh, Sothis and Almas to that list.

Yeah, yeah-- I know.

And I've been saying for over 5 years now (in all the "What-AP-should-be-next" & "Where-in-Golarion-should-get-more-design" Threads), that since it's obvious he's never gonna have time to do it, he's gotta let someone else do it.

Admittedly, I've been referring mostly to The Spire of Nex in those multitude of posts over the years, but one goes with the other.

. . . . Mr. Mona, you gotta get Absalom, and especially The Spire of Nex, the publication development it deserves as being the Free City-- Castle Greyhawk // Waterdeep-- Undermountain // Ptolus-- Ptolus Megadungeon, Flagship location for the Pathfinder campaign setting.

Or give it off to someone else.

Another vote for Kaer Maga.

I like places that are more questions than answers.

Westcrown - City within Cheliax, Empire of Devils.

My first Pathfinder Adventure Path was Council of Thieves and I put a lot of work into the City of Westcrown before the game began. I loved the feel of the city and Cheliax as a nation to play in. My players loved to hate the Cheliax government and being the rebels. Also, I loved using the Hellknights as bad guys during the campaign.

Who told you such blatant lies? Probably it was one of those Kaer Maga-haters who wants to prevent you from revealing more about Kaer Maga and secretly plots to stop Kaer Maga AP from seeing the light of the day (or dark of the night as it might be)!

In a completely unrelated announced, I would like to see more about Kaer Maga.

My favorite is Kasai, capital of Minkai, because Paizo let me design it and write it up in the City of Kasai gazetteer - with contributing author credit and pay. Paizo's cartographer did the final colorized version, but I drew all the buildings by hand (all 8,500+ buildings) and details - nothing was added nor removed from my design.

I know we're entering Shameless Plug Town*, but did you Kaer Maga fans know that THE REDEMPTION ENGINE is set there? I do a fair bit of expanding on the details from CITY OF STRANGERS in that one, as well as in Pathfinder #63: The Asylum Stone.

My top five...

1. Korvosa
2. Kaer Maga
3. Magnimar
4. Irrisen
5. Kintatgo*

*I have a fairly well-developed homebrew version of Kintatgo that I've been using in my home game. I'm both excited by and fearful of the official version to appear in Hell's Rebels: Excited that one of my favorite locations is finally getting some love, and fearful of the differences. I'm not sure if I'm more afraid of liking my version or the official version more!

Just re-read my post above.

Obviously, when I wrote "Irrisen," I meant "Whitethrone."

My top five, in no particular order:

  • Alkenstar
  • Bloodcove
  • Kaer Maga

  • Vigil
