The fighter, because of the advancement potential. At level 20, there's really nowhere to go!

Would you rather play in a combat-light campaign with a focus on complex plot and storyline that plays fast and loose with rules, or in a by-the-book combat-focused game with a thin plot?

Shadow Lodge

Combat light plot & story. There's so much more of a challenge to intrigue and I've been dungeon crawling since 1983 so I want that RP challenge.

Would you rather DM with minimal time to prepare from a published module or Play with minimal time to prep your character from all allowable Paizo sources?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

DM. I can't create a character in what most people consider minimal prep time, but I can DM by the seat of my pants.

Would you rather face a Ninja Tarrasque or a half-god with a wicked hangover?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Half god-at least he knows how to party.

Would you rather play as Pun Pun's sidekick, or Pun Pun?

They're the same thing, essentially.

Pun Pun's ascension requires the feat assume supernatural ability, the ability to transform into a sarrukh, and a snake or other "scalykind" familiar. You transform into the sarrukh, give your familiar godlike powers, he transforms and does the same, et al infinitum.

They have essentially completely equal capabilities, and a familiar is about as "sidekick" as they can be. So, this one isn't really an either-or question.

So, I dunno, flip a coin, whichever comes up, I suppose. It's all the same.

Would you rather be a blind martial with blindsense or a deaf (non-oracle curse, so no actual benefit) caster?

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would take the caster!

Would you rather be trapped in a labyrinth full of treasure and pleasures, but filled with succubi, or be trapped with three clerics of Groetus trying to convert you?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Labyrinth. Succubi won't necessarily try to drain you and they make better conversation company.

Would you rather adventure naked or face a horde of naked orcs?

I meant non familiar, but it's past.

(original was intended of would you rather not be pun pun but be his party member, or be punpun)

(personally I'd prefer the former. Punpun would be dreadfully boring)

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The horde of orcs. I don't want to end up like Cahmel.

Would you rather be a competent nobody adventurer or a famous screwup adventurer?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Competent nobody, I'm not one for fame.

Would you rather have an intelligent LG weapon with a high ego score, or an intelligent CE weapon with a low ego score?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

LG weapon, as I don't want my character shifting towards evil unless I'm doing a homebrew.

Would you rather chase after 2 bloodied displacer beasts alone with an almost fully charge level 4 character knowing you will get thousands of extra gold for the adventure, say 12 K. Or play it safe, knowing the fight is optional knowing that you would miss out on 15 K but not risk your characters life. Lets assume it was a PFS game, where doing that optional quest would give you that much more gold.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Trick question! Both the bloodied condition and displacer beasts are only found in D&D, so you will never see either in PFS!

Would you rather play in a D&D 5e game set in Golarion, or a PFRPG game set in the Forgotten Realms?

Shadow Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Forgotten Realms. Last time I was forced into D&D, I played Merisiel, who had been tragically ripped from her home plane. (It was a terrible game, but not because of that.)

Would you rather play only randomly generated characters, or characters built by a small child with no understanding of the mechanics?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Small child generators. They may be just as mechanically flawed as randomly picking class/race/feats/spells, but they could be thematically interesting depending on the child.

Would you rather play a amazingly min maxed character, with incredible equipment, but with a personality that almost exactly matches your real life personality, or a tapioca bland build with no real strong points, but a well written back story and awesome quirks?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Min-maxed. No real strong points makes it difficult to enjoy playing a character, even for RP. Not good at social skills, not good at combat, not good at doing anything.

Would you rather play Jade Regent exactly as written or play Wrath of the Righteous with a competent storyteller but no mythic tiers?

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Wrath, because I like demons.

Would you rather give drendle dreng a sponge bath or be zon-kuthons new plaything for an hour?

Drandle Dreng. At least he'd have some interesting stories to tell.

Would you rather play a gnome barbarian or a dwarf sorcerer?

Liberty's Edge

dwarf sorcerer, because of the wildblooded celestial bloodline, allowing your casting stat to be based off your wisdom.

would you rather spend a year as asmodeuses personal verbal punching bag or marry the blood queen?

Dark Archive

Gnome barbarian, because Power Attack doesn't care how small you are.

Would you rather be a wizard in a campaign set in the Mana Wastes, or a cleric in a campaign set in Rahadoum?

marry the blood queen, because the I would no longer be single

be a wizard in the mana wastes, as I rarely play clerics.

would you rather have a longbow with only 1 durable arrow and have the bow be so good (enchantments allowed, +5 bow, fire property, etc) and dex so high that you can only miss on a 1 and no others arrows or only have a masterwork dagger (with no enchanments) as a weapon with normal stats? Assume you are a Full Baber class.

The longbow, superior range and Stealth help a lot.

Would you rather have to redeem a pit fiend as a paladin or have to corrupt a paladin as an imp?

Redeem the Pit Fiend as a paladin! (Also, I'd choose to do it in 3.5, because it's much easier.)

Would you rather be guaranteed to win RPG Superstar once, or be guaranteed to get into the top 32 every time (but everything else is on your own)?

BONUS: Would you rather be a 20th level Pathfinder character going through a 3.5 AP or a 20th level 3.5 character going through a Pathfinder AP?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd rather get into the top 32 every time, and I'd rather be 3.5 going through Pathfinder progression.

Would you rather play a game with no arcane magic or no divine magic?

Poorly defined. What about spells that are on both sorc/wiz and cleric/oracle lists, for example?

Would you rather be ambushed by five invisible stalkers as a 11th level paladin or face a witchfire and three will-o'-wisps in a "fair" fight as the same paladin?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

I don't think he means spells, he means classes.

I'd rather play a game without divine magic.

That's super specific. I'll take the Witchfire and wisps. One clear big bad to smite, and rely on my saves against the wisps' tricks.

Would you rather have immunity to poison, or disease?

Disease...it is probably more common. (It does not change my answer but does that include Magical diseases?)

Would you rather adventure with Merisiel or Feiya?

John Kretzer wrote:

Feiya: she's good (EDIT: and unlikely to take your stuff), and is a caster who is not a rogue.

Would you rather be a straight pathfinder rogue or an NPC class with hypothetical access to Pathfinder PrCs?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Straight rogue. None of the NPC classes get evasion or sneak attack.

Would you rather journey to the maelstrom or the boneyard?

Maelstrom

Would you rather be a barbarian in a party of monks or a monk in a party of barbarians?

TheMonocleRogue wrote:

I find this interesting, considering recent conversations I've been having. But cool!

ZevVeli wrote:

Monk. I like my immortality, and having a bunch of people take the hits for me is fine with me. :)

(Pre Crane-Wing nerf, however.)

Would you rather be guaranteed a living by writing for D&D regardless of edition, or Pathfinder regardless of edition (if/when there is a new one which may be some ways off)?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Pathfinder.

Would you rather spend a passionate night with Calistria or a night of drinking with Cayden Cailean?

John Kretzer wrote:

Pathfinder.

Calistria. I don't like alcohol.

As a GM, would you rather have five extremely flaky players who are phenomenal when they actually show - never off task, never backstabbing one another, no side talk, adept roleplayers, etc, but are always cancelling last minute... or five reliable murder hobo munchkins that side talk when it's not their turn and rarely pay attention outside of their turn that never miss a game?

Oooooh Calistria...

Would you rather meet a bunch of territorial elves or one territorial owlbear?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Five Reliable players, and one territorial owlbear. That sounds like a sitcom.

A High Fantasy game with a player complaining about too much magic, or a Low Fantasy game with a player complaining about not enough magic?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A High Fantasy game at least I'll enjoy it.

Would you rather redeem Nocticula or find out how Aroden died?

Nocticula. Always make more good folk.

Would you rather write with James Jacobs or James Stutter?

Tacticslion wrote:

James Jacobs...we seem more a like.

Would you rather live in Nidal or Irrisen?

Irrisen. At least the scenery is nice.

Rage-kill or murder-death?
(I may be ticked off at bad internet and terrible automated phone service. Third option: fluffy bunnies.)

Rage-kill.

A game GMed by George R. R. Martin or J. R. R. Tolkein.

Tolkein: I'll likely live longer, or come back and most people I know and love won't be die. So long as I'm not a dwarf.

River Kingdoms or Numeria?
(ALT: Brevoy or Molthune?)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Numeria. SUPER SCIENCE!

Would your rather be captured by hobgoblins or goblins?

Hobgoblins. I'm going to die either way, but their more likely to conscript me or quick military-style execute me (as I'm worthless to them for torture), while the goblins... well... uh... I just... I don't want to go that way.

Play a PF game with: Benjamin Franklin or George Washington?

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

George Washington. He'd be great in Kingmaker.

Would you rather live in Nidal or the Worldwound?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Nidal.

You're playing a character with the Adopted trait. Would you rather be a human adopted by goblins, or a goblin adopted by humans?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

goblin adopted by humans.

Save the majority of the population but the world is destroyed (evacuated to a hospitable plane) or save the world but the majority of the population dies.

Knowledge and life is more valuable than one world, if there's another to go to.

Have a situational spell named after you, or have a strong combat feat named after you?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Spell. Any of the named casters could spank Aldori without even trying.

Blindly sign an Asmodean contract, or have Calistria pissed at you?

Siturational spell. Spell name seem to me to be more in game while a feat name is not so much.

Would you date Queen Abrogail the Second or Queen Ileosa Arabasti? (A third option: Queens Queen Elvanna)

.... Fight one hundred duck sized horses... or one horse sized duck.

Bonus points if you can answer the question better than Bruce Springsteen.

I like the Ask Archer answer better.

"This is hypothetical right? Right? But the answer is neither, because a horse sized duck is too terrifying to contemplate... .and duck sized horse? How could you fight them... they're too adorable! Seirously... just picture them all trying to eat one apple... it's too cute."
