D&D 5th Ed. Compatibility

Hey Folks, Is 5th Ed. Compatible w/ Pathfinder ???

I just saw the Rise of Tiamat module book at my local flgs. I'm comtemplating getting it but only if it'll work w/ Pathfinder.

No, they're two entirely different games. 5E is a lot closer in feel to 1st edition D&D, with some features of later editions added in. (Pathfinder is based on D&D 3.5, which is quite a different animal.)

I have the 5E adventure (and the one that precedes it, Hoard of the Dragon Queen). There is a free version of the 5E rules available on Wizards.com, with a lot of the monster stat blocks, plus there are a couple of web enhancements that have the rest of the needed stat blocks for creatures and NPCs in the adventures, so you can get a peek at how they differ from Pathfinder.

If you wanted to do a conversion, you could probably modify it by replacing the 5E stat blocks with Pathfinder stat blocks. However, be aware that there are a fair number of NPCs relevant to combat situations. (I always find that hunting for a good replacement stat block for an NPC is harder than for critters). Also, 5E encounters are balanced differently, so you'll generally want to reduce how many foes you throw at your players for Pathfinder, as compared to the 5E version.

Will it require a lot of work or middle of the road work. Also, what levels is RoT geared for ??

It would require a crapton of work. You pretty much would have to glean the essence from the first item and totally rebuild it in the second.

There simply really isn't any meaningful amount of overlap between the two systems.

Damn That sux. I was looking forward to this. Does Pathfinder have anything comparable to RoT ??

Comparable in what way? If you just mean a pre-written campaign, any adventure path.

It is compatible in the sense that it can be played by people, generally speaking, who sit around a table and roll dice to control playing make believe, yes.

Well paizo has a ton of really good prewritten adventures if that is what you mean. I am not overly familiar with the elements of RoT, but from what I know, you might want to check out the rise of the runelords adventure path. There are a fair amount of parallels as both are meant to be sort of classic dndish adventures that start small in scale and expand as players discover a greater power at work.

The Dragon's Demand super-module might be comparable. I don't know of any adventure path that uses lots of dragons (as I presume RoT does), but almost all have one or more somewhere. Shatter Star has one that some prefer as the final encounter. And I believe Reign of Winter (??) has

dragon riders
at one point.

Edit: Also what Kolokotroni said.

Depends how hard you want to work on it. Other than Tiamat herself, I bet there's not a single monster in the module that doesn't have stats in Pathfinder. If you want to run it as written, ignore the monster stats in the book and open your Pathfinder Bestiaries to that monster and run it with those stats.

However, those monsters have different relative power levels in each game. So that might turn some encounters into trivial speedbumps, and others into insurmountable obstacles. And then you have to stat up Tiamat yourself.

shameless yet relevant self-promotion:

I'm going to try to kill her tonight, by the way. Party of 5 players made up level 20 5th Ed characters. Look for Tiamat Takedown on Google hangouts and YouTube later.

Though you could probably find and tweak a 3.5 version of Tiamat.

Oh yeah! Good point! Draconomicon's one source. But she might be a little crazy powerful in that book.

Christopher Dudley has it right, taking the story and swapping out monsters seems like the way to go.
Perhaps you want to take a look at CR and party composition for this.
There´s a book called "Filing off the serial numbers" (or similar) which might also be a help.

Another idea might be to make some houserules to make PF similar to D&D5, like giving darkvision 20% concealment.

Ok, Cool stuff here. Thanks folks. I (We) appreciate it !!.

As she should be!

IMO, nothing less than High Mythic (bordering on demi-gods) should be able to even think about facing her.
