Advice for a new half fiend character

Advice

Hi,

I am going to start playing a pathfinder game soon. The whole group of PC is getting the Half-Fiend template for free (not everything, just abilities bonus, natural attack, wings, and some of the qualities. No SLA or skill bonuses)
I know it's not really a PC template, but hey, it's given by our GM for fluff reasons.

I am trying to build a character, but I haven't decided on the class yet.

I have chosen Vishkanya as a starting race, because I like the idea of having poisonous blood, especially when I can apply it to my claws really easily.
I would like a fairly discreet character, but who can become big and scary when needed
I found 2 classes so far for that, and it's Summoner Synthesist, and Alchemist Beastmorph. I am not sure if there is any other.

The half-fiend template being fairly unusual, it's hard to find a guide that would help me build my character.
Also, my group is more interested in RP that dungeon crawl, so I'm not looking for a character that can only fight.

Do you guys have any advice about the 2 classes I found? Is there any other classes/archetype that would fit my needs?
Also, I cannot really find anything that would increase the vishkanya's venom blood. Is there anything I've missed ?

Thanks,
Yoru

If you're game is going to be RP heavy, you'll likely want skills to help you out of combat and let your character do interesting stuff on social occasions. For that the Alchemist's utility will likely serve you better. The Beastmorph Archetype swaps out the poison use class feature, which is already covered by your race.

A magus using buff spells on itself can become big and scary on a moment's notice.

Synthesist summoner is often rejected since it rather unbalanced (two sets of hp, complete replacement of physical ability scores, etc). Also, it is troublesome since it actually cuts off a lot of your characters natural abilities (claws, bite, wings, all those sweet +2's or +4's to physical ability scores) since it seals you body away in an eidolon shell... overall, it is troublesome.

A good alternative with similar traits would be the Primal Companion Hunter (from the new Advanced Class guide).

This archetype gives the hunter's animal companion eidolon evos for minutes/level (which might as well be battles/level, since most fights end in under 10 turns).

The interesting thing is that the evos can be applied to the hunter instead if you do not have an animal companion. So you get the transformation that you wished for right there. And since it applies evos rather than putting an eidolon over you, you keep all your regular abilities.

Anyway, if we are talking about evolutions, you could also grab the poison evolution (does str instead of your bloods usual dex; nice to hit multiple scores at once). Since this character already has claws/bite and wings.. hmm... how about growing a nice stinger? The large evo to just smash everything in your path? Choices, choices.

Thanks for your replies!

The magus looks interesting, but I prefer the monster flavor of eidolons or mutagens for beastmorph.

The Primal Hunter looks very nice as well. I like the idea of being half-fiend that could transform into a full-demon, with giant wings, horns, tail and all that!
However wouldn't that be a bit of a waste to take the Hunter class without a companion ? That seem like a lot of class feature going to waste.

Well, you can trade away teamwork feats if you take Divine Hunter (you get a nice domain, and the domain spells get added to your spells known). That can be nice to show your dedication to your preferred Dark Master.

You lose some abilities... but getting eidolons evos for that long each day is extremely tempting.

Even if you only grabbed ability score increases for strength and natural armor increases, you are getting an ability that is comparable to an inquisitor's judgement or a barbarian's rage (except you get to use it a lot more often. Your minutes/level far exceed x/day or 4+CON+2/level). And then you can add things like blindsight, tremorsense, DR, +8 to a skill, etc.

That's my big issue. It looks so good that I'm probably going to take it! I just try to think about all those things I'm losing :/

I'm thinking maybe have an animal companion that could easily die, and jump suddenly on the murderer, giant with 6 arms, and all that!

So I was looking a bit around, and found that I could stack the Large and Huge evos, with a Titanic armor and the Strong Jaws spell.

That sounds so ridiculous, it's great.
What do you think ?

Also remember- You are (presumably) evil, and animal companions are free to replace. So.... yeah. Save yourself the survival check used to catch dinner.

Not a bad idea, but I believe that replacing it takes 24h of prayer. :/

Fair enough, it is troublesome.. still, it is an option. It only costs you time rather than you wealth, so it depends on your party and campaign whether that is something you can afford.
