(Roleplay Advice) Playing a war poet type character.

Advice

So I am about to be playing a monk in an upcoming campaign and the idea i had for him was kinda like a reserved and taciturn type guy who uses a lot of war poetry. As I am terrible at finding good quotes and memorizing them. I was wondering if anyone in this community knew any sources of good reading material or good quotes in general. Also an archetypes that would support this type of character would be welcome.

Your concept sounds a lot more like a bard, or to a lesser extent a skald, than a monk.

Sorry...nothing else worthwhile to contribute. Good luck.

go with war speeches from Shakespeare.

By quoting war poetry I meant it like he notices a friend slipping in his alignment and quotes something like “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.” - Friedrich Nietzsche (One of the only good quotes I know.)

not really getting anything from it just kinda using it to express hiself as opposed to talking normally.

Go with the quotes you like and flavor them to be world-specific. That's mostly what I do with my zen poet barbarian I'm currently playing in Jade Regent.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

1 person marked this as a favorite.

MTG has some nice one-liners, though not really poetry.

Meh, it's kinda Sensei-ish, I suppose.
