Okay, so this has come up a couple of times, and I wanted to check on the ruling (if any.). It's not huge in the grand scheme of things, but it'd be nice to know how to do it properly.
Stuff that adds a variable bonus to a monster that has 2 (or more) checks. Is that rolled once and applied to both checks, or is it rolled separately for both checks?
Example: there is a location: (goblin fortress I think? I don't have my game on me) that gives all goblins +1d4 to their difficulty. If you fight a goblin villain that has two combats to defeat (like an 8 then a 10), is that: roll a d4 (and get, say, a 2) then a 10 and a 12 to defeat. Or is that d4 (+2) a 10, then a d4 (+4) a 14 to defeat?

If a card calls for a die roll that affects multiple characters or situations (for example, if it says that each character at a location is dealt 1d4 damage), roll separately for each.
Further elaborated one here by Vic.
So it is roll again for each check, because you are applying the effect on the difficulty during the "determine the difficulty" step of the check, and each time you apply it anew.

Thanks for the info. I knew that damage was rolled desperately (like the two jerk alchemist ogres that start off the battle by doing 1d4 damage to everyone at their location), but because the wording is "Increase the difficulty of monsters with the Goblin trait by a d4" and not "before every check, increase the difficulty of a goblin by a d4" I thought it might have been rolled and applied to the monster as a whole. Thanks for clearing that up.
