Staff Magus

Homebrew and House Rules

(idea)
after collecting the necessary material which cost 1000 gp. A mage may perform a special ritual which requires sacrificing a permanent 1 point of Constitution. The result of which creates a Magus Staff.

Magus Staff: Stores up to 100 spell points which maybe be used to either fire bolts of arcane energy or as fuel for spells.

When firing arcane bolts, 1 spell point = 1d6 damage with a maximum of 5d6 for 5 points spent at any one time. A staff mages uses the fighter attack rolls for the bolts. The bolts have a base reflex save to avoid of DC 20. Spell Points used to fuel spells are 1 sp = 1 spell level.

Improved magus Staff: by affixing a gem worth at least 500 gp and sacrificing a permanent 1 hp, a staff magus increases the reflex save to avoid his arcane bolts to DC 22 and can now fire bolts with a maximum damage of 6d6.

This should be moved to the Suggestions/House Rules/Homebrew forum.

That being said, this really should just be a magical staff with the magic missile and mnemonic enhancer spells in it. A greater version of the staff could possess maximized magic missile instead.

No need for all that ritual stuff. It's needlessly complicated and the item creation rules already cover ritual creation with the Craft Staff feat and the pricing guidelines.

Also, why on earth would you punish players with Constitution and Hit Point loss for such an item?

What does this item have to do with a Magus?

Nothing at all, looks like. Flagged to get it to the correct forum.

Edit: Of course, as soon as I flag it and it refreshes, it's already been moved to the right forum.
