So for my homebrew, i asked my players what kind of personal goal their character might have. Or maybe something they'd like to see.
Our monk was left at a temple's doorstep, so she has a grudge against her unknown parents. They have beaten a swashbuckler & wizard duo on a pirate ship and the swashbuckler (captain) went missing....sneaky guy.
I plan on revealing "i...am your father."
So what plot twists, character or story wise, player or DM fabricated, got you the "omg, wth?"

Nah man. She was left without knowing her parents.
So, with creating a part for her mother, means creating a part for her father.
They didn't check his vitals after beating him, he stabilized, he can now be a recurring NPC.
So why not go classic and let the good captain be her father.
The wizard had been brainwashing him into a sevant.
