Summoning while inside creatures?

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Hypothetical.

I know you can't summon creatures inside of other creatures, but if the party is inside a very large creature, like the whale in Pinocchio, can the summoner summon creatures?

Quote:
Creatures cannot be summoned into an environment that cannot support them.

As long as the whale is capable of supporting the creatures summoned (size/weight) and the caster has LOE to the point the creatures are being summoned to, it should work just fine.

RAW, no. This is listed, of all places, in the rules for create water. It might be somewhere else too, but it's pretty clear here:
"Conjuration spells can't create substances or objects within a creature."

I think it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do, if you happen to be inside of a creature and it fits the criteria Tarantula mentioned. As to RAI, I have no idea.

I disagree. Conjuration spells only create substances or objects when they are (creation) spells such as create water. Summoning spells are conjuration (summoning). The only logical reasoning I see for creation not being able to create things inside of creatures is because you do not have line of effect to the inside of the creature.

Silver Crusade

As long as the creature summoned can fit inside it, and you happen to be inside it, I see no problem. Still, it makes things interesting if you summon, say, a fire elemental, then I'ld rule that both summoner and consumer take the damage from burn.

Its actually mostly so people dont use create water to try and fill a creatures lungs (making it a suffocation effect) rather than a cantrip level spell.

I understand the balance reason why. I meant a rules why other than the one sentence in create water.

Yeah, I just looked at the subschool classifications more closely, and I agree with you guys.
