Taking One for the Group

There is the rule about taking one for the team in the guide book, this was a bit different …

Last week we were up against Lone Shark with 5 players. Not a pretty sight and one gory death. (There were sharks involved.) So I promised them a rematch last night. Knowing they needed an edge, I put away Seoni and brought Harsk to the party. He's been through Lone Shark before so I knew we needed a better strategy than last week. His scouting and better skills/powers allowed us to do far better than our previous expedition. Of course, no reward for him and I picked last for upgrade.

He's only a couple scenarios ahead of that party but I hated not giving them a better chance to win.

Anyone (who's running/facilitating) done this yet for one of your groups?

Er, that's not taking one for the team.

My team runs a regular group for now so we haven't needed to do this yet, probably will if I run other places.

But "taking one for the team" involves using a different pregenerated character (say, Kyra because there's no healing or some other character because there's skills missing) and grabbing the rewards for that character and giving it back to your main character. What you described is just rerunning the scenario and not being able to take the reward.

Which is why I said "Taking One for the Group" ... :-)

I put Seoni away in order to use a character that couldn't benefit from the reward (since he already got it). And doing that to help a group succeed at a scenario.

(I know what Taking One for the Team is and how it is used. I was more interested in whether anyone has had to pull out a "ringer" to help a group succeed at a previously failed scenario.)

I haven't had to do this yet. However, I only plan on making one character for each class deck, plus any unlockables after I get them. Since I do a lot of solo play whenever I have time at home, I imagine I'll be doing this eventually. Especially since I won't be doing a group event this weekend due to other commitments. Although if I can't break in Olenjack solo and actually win some scenarios with him, I may almost always have him to play in a group.
