newbie questions (mobs, character building) ...

Pathfinder Online

probable already answered before ....
but I can not find anything :(
so sorry for posting (again)

a) is there a some list somewhere where you might be able to find specific monsters? Specifically I'm looking for hordes of skeletons and cultists (cleric build)
b) is there anything like a character builder (allows you to select available feats depending on the prerequisites)?

thanks for answers

a) Not that I'm aware of. It'll vary over time as escalations are defeated and new ones spawn. A comprehensive mapping of mob types would be largely obsolete within a few days (longer in less populated areas). There are some spawns that appear static, but I'm not aware of any static skeleton or cultist locations.

b) Afaik just my calculators. They're based on python's tkinter module and aren't the nicest looking, but will allow mock character training on the training tab. They'll track ability scores/role levels/xp spent etc. Outside of that there's just the publicly available spreadsheets. Note: the data may be slightly out of date as I haven't had much time to update them lately, but should be reasonably close to what is in game.

I actually looked at them - or rather - looked at the V0 version. Looks like there are updates *headcrash*

is 46 the latest version?

There is a risen escalation around Bernstein at present but you really really REALLY do not want to mess with risen if your a new character :D

Other than that there is always the occasional generic easy to kill skeleton around the outskirts of Thornkeep.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

a)

There should eventually be a map showing who lives in the monster home hexes (the ones with a lion icon on the map). But someone has to get around to making it first. Expect most settlements to know their ownneighbourhood monsters but not what lives 12 hexes away.

b)

Nightdrifter's calculators are teh best. For best value, you should have some kind of plan first and use the calculator to check prerequisites and costs. The list of available feats at any given time is huge.

Of course, the trainers in-game give you a list of available and unavailable feats that they can train. I find that the unavailable feats tab is great for planning the next step.

hmm... would it be a good idea to make a graphical "tech tree"? Sort feats by type, achievements and stats... any volunteers?

There are lots of undead near Ozem's Vigil. Start on the East side. Be wary.

There are Razmirans south of Tavernhold, but as with Risen, you should stay away from those guys if you're a new character. Miksi and I ran into an undeath squad last night who were on top of the shrine. We each died enough times that when we finally escaped we had lost all of our armor and all of our weapons except my shield (with which I finally bludgeoned the Wizard to death - he was so close to the shrine he didn't even lose targeting when we died - he could kill us before we could run away, and just keep blasting when we rezzed a few steps away).

Ouch! In that situation what can you do? Strip naked as fast as you can to save your gear? But then you are stuck in a death loop because you can't fight the mobs that are killing you... I can see that when grouping it would be a good idea to clear mobs around a shrine at the start, but if you are just trying to get from town to town and that happens to you, what hope have you got?

I'm running v64, and just keep an eye on the thread, as there have sometimes been amazingly-frequent updates.

There was a discussion on the Alpha boards yesterday; the monster-home code's not working yet, so those are normal "random" escalations for now. Eventually, there'll be only one type in those.

Ya, v64 is the latest release. I have half completed what I want to include in v65, but not sure when it'll be released.

First thing to try is log out for a few minutes. Chances are the home position of the mob is not actually right on the shrine so if you give them a minute or two without rezzing (and hence attracting them back) they may move away from the shrine a little.

If that fails I suppose consistently running the same direction everytime you rezz may draw them away enough to eventually sprint the other way and get away.

I tend to clear any shrines I come across with mobs camping them.

In this case, the squad on the rez point is not the group that initially killed us, so they really were standing on the X. And the Wizard was killing us with ranged before we could get away, so he wasn't moving. We were just screwed.

thanks for all the answers

good hunting
