Traits and PFS

Advice

This may seem silly but please help me out.

In PFS we choose two traits, but from my understanding you can't use any books other than the CRB and the free guidebook unless you HAVE the resources.

Traits first appear first in the APG...

So if I don't have the APG can I still use traits? I don't understand.

There is a free download for some traits on the Pathfinder Society Player Resources page. Also the Guide to Organized Play has some faction traits as well.

Can I take both my traits from my faction then?

No. Only 1 trait per category.

Note that the free Traits download mentioned above is, essentially, the Traits section of the APG.

Additional Resources is the "go to" place to determine what material, from other Paizo products, is legal for use on your PFS PCs. And, yes, this list also requires you own the resource the material used is from.

A lot of traits get re-printed in newer material; or new options are provided. For example, I think the Ultimate Campaign book has a bunch of traits if I recall. Of course you still have to make sure that the source book you are using is an approved source via "Additional Resources", which was conveniently linked by Kinevon. Thanks Kinevon!

Sovereign Court

Ultimate Campaign has the APG traits and a few more really good ones (like Seeker). Inner Sea Gods compiles religion traits from a lot of different campaign supplements.

The Exchange

You can only have one trait of a type - Racial, Faction, Regional, Combat, Faith, Religion, Social, etc.

You can pick up additional traits later on through the feat (which I've done on several of my PFS characters, they can be very useful) but yes you need the source material, though there quite a few available via the free downloads previously mentioned.

I am going to be picking up the additional traits feat on my sorcerer for when she goes evangelist prestige class -- I decided that I needed Magical Knack to make up for that lost caster level.

There are many excellent traits. Have fun picking them!

Hmm

The Exchange

Magical knack is great to make up for multiclassing. I was pretty happy when the ban was lifted on that one.
One of my favorites is Faith's Favored + Jingasa.

I'm going to be picking up Magical Knack and Reactionary. That +2 to initiative will not go amiss!

Fortunately, my two prior traits were social and regional, so I can still pick up magic and combat traits. I hadn't originally planned on going evangelist, but it really fits the character back story!

Hmm
