Dot dash dot

Are we talking mainly dungeon crawl?

any race and class? Okay I can just see a player submitting an ogre barbarian as ogre is in the advance race guide as a race builder example. some dms encourage players to right a good backstory if they play some really unique races or say you can submit anything but core preferred or submit anything but if it looks too much powergamish then no. In other words, I do want to get a feel as to how you handle stuff like and your expectations, so that I know what other types of players I might end up with, whether that be roleplayers that powergame, roleplayers that don't powergame, powerplayers that optimize but don't powergame, etc.

The game will be dungeon/exploration/role playing
@double gold good Points.
I want someone who wants to play say Oread can play it with a good story. Power Gamers need not apply!

I am currently thinking either investigator or rogue. I am unsure of the race, either half elf or something more exotic.

I'm thinking of trying something a little different. Anyone want to work together on a pair of characters to utilize Teamwork Feats?

Me'Mori I might be open to that idea but what do you have in mind?

EDIT looking at doublegold's post, reminds me of Balrock, my Thor worshiping, Ogre Paladin. I wonder if I still have his back story somewhere?

Well, looking over them, it really depends on what types of classes you have a penchant for.

With two days to go, we're looking at four individuals, of which a rogue is the only solid mention of a class. You mentioned a Paladin, there could be the Cleric/Paladin pair, or Barbarian/Ranger.. Cleric/Inquisitor also works, Though Druid/Ranger is also viable.. most of the feats seem geared towards melee.

That's not to be said that some things could not be done with a Magus/Arcane class..

Siblings? Graduates of a school that used pairs? Any of those catch your interest?

with the short time frame I may go with something already created.

choice #1

Choice #4

I'll stick a dot on this!

@Ed I like the idea of Siblings that's cool.

I kind of like choice #1 above, i used the race creation from the race guide to make a whisper gnome from 3.5 races of stone book

Presenting this char for consideration.

(will be downgraded to level two and will take out the campaign trait / replace with an other)

After some though, I'm considering a bow-based cleric of Sinashakti, an Azata empyreal lord whose followers often gather in Magnimar. I'd probably be a garuda-blooded aasimar, so my worship of Sinashakti would be both as god and distant ancestor (whether that perception was correct or not).

Alternatively, I could stand to get in on this teamwork-feats business myself, and I wouldn't mind bending my character in that direction - by being a battle-cleric instead, for example.

Edward, if you're inclined to go with a gnome, that's fine. Since there's already been a mention of a rogue up-thread, I don't want to swamp the thread with rogue-like submissions forcing an all-or-none situation.

Jonahkan, things are possible with a bow-based cleric, or battle cleric. For the bow Enfilading Fire, and Target of Opportunity work if you want to work with ranged attacks. They just require that the attacker be within 30feet.

I can get behind an twin Aasimar Warpriest with the Halo race trait.. it could cover both our caster and combat openings (not that I'm looking for a standard party) Let me know what you two think, and I can put something up by tonight.

*waves* Hello again, Algar!

I for one would love to see this. A race that is normally CE has to now be LG, would like to see this characters and his backstory.

Me'mori... I saw both of those. They're both nice, but Enfilading Fire is some way down the feat-tree (albeit, one I would anyway be exploring), and Target of Opportunity has a hefty BAB requirement. Some of the melee ones could work straightaway. But I kinda like the idea of the Travel (Exploration) domain... and I'm playing an earnst Dwarven battle-cleric in another game... arrgh...

Me'mori.. one aspect I was thinking.. instead of siblings but instead as a sort of lord/servant relationship.

kayla is a ninja, somewhere along the line your character saved kayla's life and she in indebted to you. she has vowed to serve as your personal ninja/assassin to repay her debt to you.

but the lord servent relationship has (or will) evolve into a close friendship as well. and Kayla will stick with your character even after the debt is repaid.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

All of those options are viable, and can still work.. *grin*

So, shall we try for a trio?

I for one would love to see this. A race that is normally CE has to now be LG, would like to see this characters and his backstory.

the orginal character was 3.0 and used the half-ogre race, but half-ogre is now the ogrekin template and no longer works for the concept.

but again I need to find the backstory, it was an old text file probably 6-10 years ago. I might have it on a back up hard drive somewhere.

Dotting in, I'll have to kit him out, but I believe I have a charming swashbuckler that can take down anything from a giant to a gallon of rum.

sounds good to me

Alright. I'll work up a rough. Jonahkan, what gender will your character be?

Incidentally, I've found these questions remarkably helpful in feeling out the character. Take and use at your leisure.

How did you acquire your "job"?
How did you assemble your starting equipment?
What's the worst event of your life so far?
What's the best thing that ever happened to you?
How do others perceive you in social interactions?
How assertive are you in making a decision?
How do you feel when faced with setbacks?
Do you stay in contact with your family? What do they think of you?
Do you have any secrets or conflicts in your past that may come back to haunt you?
How long have you lived in this city, and what part?
What's your opinion on the current state of affairs in this country?

Me'Mori you still gmae to my idea as well?

Jonahkan: you interested in this trio as well?

GM: are you open to the custom race or do you prefer I change to a more traditional race? ( I will loose some cool features but it can still work out). I will put together the race build and how many points as soon as possible, (I don't have my notes handy)

here are the orginal racial traits from the Races of Stone book

I'm game. Just waiting for a response from Jonahkan before I toss it together. I do have some questions for you, though:

Your background indicates Kenabres. I was looking through it to try and piece something together for a potential intervention somewhere between lvls one and two. Where would you prefer that to be?

I need to update that i last used this character in a WotR game that died. much will be similar but I will tie it into this group toward the end.

here is the race build I used orginally:

Type: Humanoid - 0 RP
Size: small - 0 RP
Speed: Normal - 0 RP
Stats: Standard (+2 dex, -2 Str, +2 Cha) - 0 RP
Lang: standard - 0 RP
Skill Bonus (+2 Perception) - 2 RP
Sneaky (+4 stealth) - 5 RP
SLA Silence - 2 RP
SLA Mage Hand, Message, Ghost Sound - 3 RP
Darkvision - 2 RP
Light sensitivity - -1 RP
Hatred (goblinoids, Kobolds) - 1 RP
Defensive Training, Lesser (giants) - 1 RP
Weapon Familiarity (gnome) - 1 RP
total = 16 RP

racial feats:

EXTRA SILENCE [RACIAL]
You can generate a field of silence more often than other whisper gnomes can.

Prerequisite: Whisper gnome.

Benefit: You can use your racial silence spell-like ability a
number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma bonus.

Normal: A whisper gnome can normally use his silence spell-like ability once per day.

Special: You can take this feat more than once. Each time you take it after the first, you gain three additional uses of your silence ability per day.

SILENCING STRIKE [RACIAL]
You can infuse your sneak attacks with the magical essence of silence.

Prerequisites: Whisper gnome, sneak attack ability.

Benefit: You can use one of the daily uses of your silence spell-like ability to turn a sneak attack into a silencing strike. You must declare the use of this feat before you make your attack roll. If you hit your target with a melee attack and successfully deal sneak attack damage, a field of supernatural silence also surrounds the target. The effect of this field of silence is identical to that of the spell of the same name, except that there is no saving throw to resist this effect. The silence lasts for a number of rounds equal to your character level.
You can dismiss the field as a standard action

I can get rid of the feats if needed they are not crucial to anything.

I'm interested in the trio-thing! I'm relaxed about roleplaying a character of either gender.

Since Kayla is planning a Ninja, I'm imagining Me'mori as some kind of samurai lord in either sword-wielding martial or magic-wielding arcane class, or possibly a crafty merchant-lord with roguish or arcane skills.

I definitely want to play a cleric, so (assuming I've imagined Me'mori correctly), I'm now thinking that I should be a kind of servant (to lord and God), and spiritual advisor. Assuming the Asian theme is taken to its natural conclusion and our little group has its origins in Tian Xia, I would be a battle-cleric, either of Shizuru or Yamatsumi, assuming - as seems likely - we follow the path of close-combat teamwork feats.

I'm not adverse to being a bow-cleric of General Susumu (emphasising his lawful, heroic, honourable tactics in warfare aspects) if we decided to take the ranged teamwork feats - although I only really like Target of Opportunity, as others seem to depend on someone being in melee, which is kind of a downer for a character with ranged feats.

Definitely going Investor then.

PS, Kayla, are worrying more about skills or damage?

I prefer a race that is not custom. I wanted folks to be able cat folk or one of non core races. My concern is that a custom race will end be a power gaming thing that's what I am trying to avoid. I like most of the ideas I am seeing here.

not a problem there GM I will revert Kayla back to her original stats...Dread gnome (well gnome with alternate racial traits)

@nohwear not really worried about either, as a small size damage will be dependent on sneak attack. skills...my main skill i am using is stealth. the only thing I hate is the evil alignment requirement for assassin.

Looks good what is the backstory?

Still working the details with jon and me'mori but most is already in the profile, just re-did the crunch quickly while irlt was all still fresh in my head.

Dot

I'll finish my sheet up in the next eighteen hours or so. I have to sleep sometime...

The thing with the Eastern sort of approach is that it is kinda taboo, in my experience. It's the trappings of the approach that make them so desirable. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just that the same thing can be accomplished without the trappings.

Of course, all this does hinge on whether or not the GM has any particular leanings toward Tian Xa or not.

So, without depending on the Tian Xa angle:
• Kayla is saved by the relatives, and willingly serves them. If she is serving a particular character, that can he chosen.
• The relatives can be built, coordination is only needed on a shared history, and accounting for the addition of Kayla.
• I'm really feeling the Aasimar Bloodrager (Celestial Bloodline), and she could have just followed after her uncle to avoid the arranged marriage aspect of being female in this type of era.

As I said, I don't much mind - but I suppose I will default to male. On reflection, I think you're right about the Tian Xia angle... I'd mostly latched onto it because of the Ninja-class.

I think... for my preference, I would be an Angel-blooded Aasimar Cleric of Ragathiel - my distant angelic ancestor, with the domains of Destruction and Good. I'd... quite like to advance my age to middle and take the 'Immortal Spark' variant feature, if that's allowed (Incidentally, this would make my stats 18,12,12,12,16,16 when using Immortal Spark). Which I suppose would make me a kind of adoptive uncle, rather than a sibling? Which race did you have in mind?

Ninja can be worked with, they just say "Rogue" when asked. Part of the deception. ;)

Aasimar Bloodrager (Celestial), and I'm looking at the Blood and Flesh line of feats to complement the teamwork feats. If you're going to advance him to middle age, then that would make her a Niece, I suspect, if any tie at all, save that she followed him when she was younger, due to limited choices. Easier to raise someone and call them family, than worry about heritage that may or may not be able to be tracked. She'll call him "Uncle", since it'll be easier.

After all, Teamwork feats are kind of a given, if he taught her how to fight. :D Kayla, is this enough to work with?

My stats are looking like 14,14,15,11,12,17

(edit)I'll get to work on the sheet as well.

That sounds good! I'll work up the sheet.

I am open to the Tian Xia just have a good back story and the deadline is now moved to Friday at 1200PM CST.

as far as the ninja thing.. I chose Ninja, not because of any asian cultural influence. it merely was the best fit for the type of character I wanted to create.

This character was originally a whisper gnome swordsage (from the Tome of Battle book) (eventually becomeing a shadow sun ninja) I wanted to re-create the character in pathfinder and the ninja seemed the closest fit for what I was looking for.

If you read the backstory, I stole elements from numerous sources. and it is not entirely a Tian Xia focused back story. (I never even made mention of Tian Xia.

Once I see Jon and Me'mori's first cut of stories I'll tie Kayla into it as best I can.

I figure thise two would have known each other longer and Kayla is more of a new arrivial (so-to-speak)

Alright, here's the rough. Feel free to offer suggestions. :

Background:
Female Aasimar Bloodrager(Celestial)
Alternate Racial Trait: Halo
Traits: Orphaned, Frontier-Forged
Drawback: Family Ties
Feat: Angelic Blood

The nature of her heritage is something that she thinks about when her mind has slowed down enough, after the day is done, and she is settling down to sleep when she does not have watch. She was blessed enough to be able to manifest the heritage in her bloodline, but for the rest of her immediate family, there was no one else that was able to express it. So she got to see her parents age and depart this world, then her Gyles, herolder brother, and her younger sister Hilda was approaching that time as well.. Tough to deal with when she was just reaching adulthood.

Bittersweet, in a sense. She was everyone's favorite aunt, and from what it looked like, she was going to hold that title for another generation or two. Still, it was not like she was alone. Mom and Dad's farm had been passed to her older brother, who in turn passed it to his son, and about that time, she was getting tired of the place. Too many memories, too many partial ghosts, just too much history accumulating for her comfort.

Family passing by was a rare, but not unheard-of occurrence, which was usually near the holidays and festival time. She had met her uncle (more like great-uncle, but she did not bother with the details) several times in the span of her seventy-four years, and he was an another aasimar. Desi hoped that he would agree to take her with him, being able to understand what staying in one place for so long could mean.

@Desidera what events drive to look for adventure?

This is basically all there… though I’m willing to make some additional changes. For example, I’d take the feat Stealth Synergy (improves Stealth) or Shake it Off (improves saves) if a number of other players wanted to. Also... are magical upgrades to weapons going to be available? Because if so I will go for a masterwork sword-of-my-father, even though, with armor, that zeros out my wealth. Otherwise I'll have a standard version and an array of other equipment.

Aodhiel, Neutral-Good Angelic Aasimar (native outsider) Cleric (2) of Ragathiel (Destruction, Good)
Age 221 years, 5’11”, 165lbs

Spoiler:

Aodhiel is a distant scion of Ragathiel, General of Vengance, and he worships his divine empyreal ancestor. Some hundred years or so ago, an aasimar healer named Imesah staved off a plague that was ravaging a particular village. In desperation, she prayed to her divine ancestor, Ragathiel, for assistance. Ragathiel sent her two of his paladins, a human man named Aakif, and an archon-blooded aasimar named Valtrya, who rooted out the cult of Ghlaunder that’d been responsible for spreading the plague, that their mosquito-god might feed on the blood-bloated corpses of the dead and dying. In time, Aakif and Imesah fell in love and married. On the eve of the birth of their first child, Aodhiel, one of Ghalaunder’s worshippers, who’d been saved from the plague by Imesah’s intervention, stole her away, and attempted to sacrifice the angel-blooded birth in an unholy ritual. Aakif and Valtrya intervened, and though she saved Aodhiel, Aakif could not save his wife - or himself.

At first, Valtrya viewed Aodhiel as a burden, an unasked-for restriction on her ability to fulfil her duty to Ragathiel. Before she could pass his care to some monastery of good repute, a divine vision came to her, that Aodhiel had been sent into her care. Accepting him as a divine test, she raised him, and, in time, came to see him as a powerful ally. She was delighted when he became a cleric of Ragathiel. Together, the pair travelled, foiling devilry and scattering demonic cults, bringing light to darkness and destroying evil wherever they found it. Yet without Aakif’s moderating influence, Valtrya only grew more extreme. Where he might’ve attempted to save the soul of a tainted cultist, she would damn it into her Lord’s hands - the lesson that’d cost Imesah her life overlearned. Unbeknownst to them both, Aodhiel had been sent to her not as an ally in vengeance, but as a guide towards serenity.

In time, and in turn, Aodhiel and Valtrya rescued Desidera from a group of cultists who’d invaded her village and sought to sacrifice the celestial-blooded child. Aodhiel took the position of local cleric, walking the long circuit between several small villages, protecting and supporting his adoptive niece, helping her tame the fury that raged in her blood, finding surprising comfort in providing the pastoral care simple people needed from their cleric. - and Valtrya moved on, hunting demons and darkness wherever she saw it, real or imagined. Over time, as Desidera grew up, her family aging around her, it became clear she had an adventurer’s spirit, and so he led her from the life that was dying around her onto a new path. Together, they spread healing and kindness, saving those touched by dark gods, and regretfully damning those beyond all hope of redemption… [presumably, our encounter with Kayla will have happened in this period].

OOC: So… if you wish to, the Aodhiel has some unfinished business with the cult who slew his parents (it could be a different god than Ghlaunder), and clearly some of them might’ve survived. Perhaps one or both of his parents didn’t die, and were instead corrupted into some putrid monstrosity by the plague-god.

Similarly, Valtrya is walking a very dark path. It’s clear she could fall to worshipping any kind of Lawful-Evil deity, probably with an absolutist or vengeful bent. Aodhiel would naturally try to save her, even at risk to himself. She’ll have kept fighting, training and learning whilst Aodhiel took a pastoral role, so she could easily be high-level.

In that rough? Anything was better to her than being the farmer and watching your family grow old and die around you while you aged slower. It helped that her Uncle was someone she could look up to, but with his backstory, I can pick up a little more.

To be fair, it did start out as a bit of hero-worship for her uncle. She had been a lot younger when she had been kidnapped by the cultists, and he had saved her. The farm was a safe place, something familiar after the trauma that she had experienced. Watching your family grow old and die cured her of that. As for the hero worship? Well, heroes don't drop and break your favorite cup, or tell bad stories about embarrassing things you used to do when you were smaller. You don't come back with them in the late hours of the evening, covered in hopefully just mud from chasing escaped pigs, or have to help them to bed because the family festival celebration had everyone drinking a little too much.

It was just time to go, she felt. Adventuring meant something drastically different than the bucolic farm life-- though she kept in regular touch with her family. Sure, there was the danger of dying, but if her uncle could do what he did, then why should he have to do it alone? Furthermore, when someone in her family manifested traits like she did, she could be there for them.

Here is my submission for Wes Roberts. This character was originally someone else entirely, but while creating his backstory I had an idea and went with it. Hopefully someone gets the movie reference :).

Backstory:
All his life Wes has dreamed of being someone else. He grew up as a street rat in Riddleport. His father was a drunk and his mother was a prostitute, so he basically spent most of his time on his own. He spent most of his time watching the older, wealthier pirates who strode around the slum of a city that was Riddleport. They always seemed to float above the garbage and scum, as they walked with such arrogance and class. That was what he wanted to be. He wanted the entire world to look up to him in awe as he walked above them. It was at that moment that he decided to be that kind of man. So he started watching every move that the rich men made- how they walked, talked, and even ate, he started sneaking aboard ships so he could see how to sail, and he practiced with a sword every single day. When he was finally old enough to go out on his own, he hopped on a ship and sailed out to the open sea. This was when he found out that being a pirate was not what he had imagined. He spent most of his time swabbing the deck and running away from the men who thought that a young boy would be a great punching bag. This is where his swordplay came in handy. Although he was the youngest of the crew by at least nine years, he could best them all with a sword. This talent would have earned him great respect on a crew of reasonable men, but the brutes on the ship ignored it and gave hime another sea-sickness bucket to wash. Finally the time came that Wes had been waiting for all his life. He was going to get the chance to board and plunder a ship. What he didn’t know was that the ship they were attacking belonged to the most renowned pirate to sail in Varisia: The Dread Pirate Roberts. When they boarded the ship, it became apparent to Wes that Roberts let it happen on purpose. The invading crew was immediately slaughtered and Wes failed to best even the deckhands with a sword. After beheading the invading captain, Roberts found Wes bleeding on his deck. Wes now felt pretty sure that he was going to die by the captain’s hand. Then Roberts did something completely surprising: He walked up to Wes, knelt down and said ”Lad, if you don’t bleed out on this deck, I’ve got a room for you.” Well as it turns out, Wes did not die on that ship. He spent the next for years doing and seeing the most amazing things on Roberts ship and every afternoon they would practice with the sword. When they were ready to go to be Roberts would say ”Goodnight Wesley, sleep week, most likely to kill you in the morning.” Finally the time came when the Dread Pirate Roberts decided to retire. He passed his mantle on to Wes, making him the new Dread Pirate Roberts, and got off on the next dock. The last thing Roberts said to Wes was ”Mind the squid lad.” Wes had no idea what he meant by that, until the Kraken attacked. It came out of nowhere, one moment the sea was as smooth as glass and the next there was a hurricane and a giant squid. He and his crew did there best, but in the end he was the only surviver, floating for days on a piece of driftwood. When he finally got to shore, he was nursed back to health by an old fisherman and his wife. At first he was tempted to stay there, but he still wanted to be powerful, and he could no longer be the Dread Pirate Roberts without a crew and a ship. So he said his goodbye’s and left the town of Sandpoint and headed to Magnimar. Still there was something nagging at him, why would a kraken attack his ship whiteout reason? A couple humans wouldn’t provide much in the way of food, and all there treasure went with Wes’s predecessor. He also knew from old sailors tales that Krakens were old and wise beings that planned there attacks for years. Eventually he decided to push the thought to the back of his mind and he set his first priority as making a name for himself in Magnimar.
[spoiler=Description] Having grown up around a good bit of wealthy pirates, Wes Roberts is the epitome of class. He has his priorities in order without a doubt in his mind: Power, Rum, Women, and Gold in that order. His is quick witted and loves a good conversation. Don’t let his laid back personality fool you though, he knows his way around a fight and rarely comes up on the losing end.
