Murder's Mark question about the sphinx

Adventures

Grand Lodge

I'm DMing Murder's Mar.One of the characters has taken an interest in the sphinx and keeps going to her appearances and asking her questions. He tried to disbelieve the first time he saw her and failed bu seems to have accepted her reality since then. With all the interaction, should I give him a chance, or multiple chances, to see through the illusion.

If I'm right, to disbelieve he must interact with it (touch it). But she in the center of the cage, that is guarded. Guard are there, to stop players from trying to approach the cage. So he cannot have even initial check to disbelief.

Well, I gave him one save because ventriloquism says anyone who hears it gets a save to recognize it as an illusion. He is the only PC to talk to the sphinx though, so no one else has had an opportunity to see through the illusion. Re-reading ventriloquism makes it sound like he would only get the one save so I don't feel like I'm cheating him of a chance to see through the illusion.

One of the other PCs tried to poke the sphinx, but I just ruled that the guards stopped her. They are very alert, and there are 4 of them after all.
