Costing bespoke items

Rules Questions

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out how item costs for items with '10 round but not necessarily continuous' durations work. Example - boots of speed. They come out at 12,000 but I can't see how. I'm wondering how much non-standard boots of water walking would be?
can anyone show me the maths, please?
cheers,
Tony

Well, just to let you know, there are no hard rules, but only guidelines, to estimate the cost of custom magic items.

In the end, whatever you come up with, will require DM approval.

Boots of Speed is based off Haste. It came out before the Summoner, so it used a 3rd level spell at 10th caster level, and one activation worth per day of continuous use. 3*10*2000*(1/5)=12,000. Summoner would make it 8,000.
It was made to allow use in round increments with a total of 10 rounds, which is what you get with Haste 1/day @ 10th.
Some other stuff allows this splitting also. [Boots of Flying or Robe of Flying, I think.]

PS: 1,000th post!

Thanks Cevah,
That's the maths I was after :)
But I also take your point, blackbloodtroll. I was just sure these would be stabdard enough to work within the formula. I hadn't twigged that 10 potential separate rounds use counted as 1 use per day.
