Dagger for Close Weapon Training?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I came across this the other day when I was planning a brawler for an upcoming campaign. I was pretty set on the idea of a knife-fighting street thug. However, when I looked into the close weapon training I realized that the dagger was not among the list. This is a problem because I was looking forward to being able to use a dagger in a brawler's flurry.

I am just curious, was the dagger not being added to the close weapon group an oversight? Is there a reason that one of the most iconic close-quarter melee weapons is not on the list?

Do you think it would be reasonable to add it to the list?

It is already in a several other lists (light blades, throwing), and frankly, their value is rather high due to their versatility (in comparison, the close weapon group is more famous for being 'convenient' for sword and board users, rather than powerful). Also, the close weapons group tends to be up close bludgeoning... generally. So brass knuckles, shields, saps, etc. Also various spiked things...but that uses the same smacking type motions.

Question- could you suffice with a sohei monk? they can flurry with daggers after level 6. The also can do so in light armor. Overall, it seems like it fits a similar niche as brawler as far as 'good flurrying' is concerned.

Of course, this might not fit into your flavor.....hmmmm....how about punching daggers? While they are often used as a short hand for the more Indian flavored katar, they also represent the push or t-dagger that is rather infamous in the backroom brawls of the old Mississippi (in the end, they were one of a variety of blades that were banned for sale in New Orleans, along with stilettos).

For an image, they have handles somewhat similar to those used on corkscrews, allowing the user to stab using a punching motion (who would have guessed with punching daggers?). They were a popular concealed weapon of their era, often painted black so they could not be seen in the dim lighting of saloons and store rooms of steamboats. Thus, what seemed like a regular punch quickly turned into a shanking in the kidneys. Poker is all fun and games until someone loses an eye, no?

Of course, a simpler answer would be to grab martial weapon proficiency and grab a Lungchuan tamo. It is an eastern weapon (not sure if that matters at all), and it is basically a slightly worse dagger (lower crit rage) with the monk property.
