Free Companies and Towers.

I am potentially looking at forming an unaligned free company based out of TK at EE and there seem to be a number of issues with free companies in the WoT.

Note I am not 100% clear on the mechanics here and am happy to be corrected.

IDEALLY:

- As a free company you should be able to assign towers as and when you wish potentially working for several settlements at once with contracts in different parts of the map assigning the towers as you acquire them.

- It should also be possible to take a tower and then assign it to the highest bidder as you see fit once you contact likely 'purchasers'.

- It should be possible to take and hold towers for "ransom" retaining them in your company name until the adjoining settlement either force-ably retakes them or pays you to transfer them back.

CURRENTLY:
You must apply to assign your towers to one particular settlement and they need to manually approve your application which could take days.

All good ideas, I really like the notion of supporting truly independent mercenary companies.

But (in my not so humble opinion) this is pretty far from MVP. The mechanics for settlements need a few iterations before time should be spent on this.

I doubt free companies will be supported very well during the War of Towers. That sounds like a great system for Goblinworks to develop during the WoT, then deploy after the WoT (replacing the word "Towers" with "Points of Interest" in the description).

While your notions will give more options for players that want to form unaligned companies, they don't seem to take into account that the tower wars are serving a specific purpose (to stand-in for inter-settlement combat until it is implemented) and that despite the goals of such players, GW's goal is to push players into settlements. None of your proposals will advance that goal, so I'm not sure you'll get much traction on them before Open Enrollment, by which time they'll be moot

It seems to me that all of these goals could be met simply by allowing one Company to directly transfer a Tower to another Company. I'm not sure if it's worth spending resources on, but if that infrastructure could be used later to transfer ownership of a POI, then it might be worthwhile.
