Also, do I need to change Carious's feat then? I got it for his rapier. Also, are we doing traits?

"Aye lass, never hurts to have blessed crew members. Maybe Gozreh is on to somethin', although I'm sure the Drunken Hero also had a hand in it," he smirks.

As I have said, I am not really interested in roll 20, but if you are going pbp here then I am interested. Sven is a Dragon Skald, which is support and melee.

I have all my stuff on roll 20, so that is where we will play, but you are certainly welcome here :)

As for Carious's nature, he's a jokester of sorts, spouting off witty insults and bad puns at his enemies as he fights with his rapier, bow, and spells. He's a jolly sort, but always willing to defend his companions if they're in danger.

Carious Resana wrote:

To be honest, I haven't looked at anyone's stats yet, I am posting away from home on my phone. If you took weapon finesse, assume you have it for the purposes of my games. Weapon finesse seems redundant to me if you have a finesse character build. It is a feat tax, and doesn't hold congruent with my interpretation of the game.

Ah ok, so I'll take that as a yes on the feat change.

I really do not like role playing in a recruitment for a slot at a table. I had asked what the party had already but did not get a reply (although all the party members may have replied, I do not know). I'd be happy to create a fun and balanced character to fill any role needed and would be pleased to submit this or any other alias I have as an example of my role playing but I am just not interested in RPing as an interview. It looks like you have lots of interested folks who do not mind role playing in the recruitment thread so I wish you the best of luck. I will say I am an experience Roll 20 player (though someones I struggle getting my macros to work) and played a game using the tool last night.

I might change my mind, what is the website for roll 20? I can not seem to find it.

Well in the end, heroes are defined by their actions, not their birth

"Aye, that is true"

Nohwear wrote:

Alkyd nods in agreement. "Aye, but birth certainly helps things quite a bit in the grand scheme of things."

Carious nods, "Aye, that is also true. Bein' an aasimar, I have a natural instinct to do good. Although some o' my kind are not so iclined, sadly."

Completely understand. I hate asking for it... it is nice for the players to know what kind of interraction to expect with each other.

I did respond that there is a gunslinger, a dex rogue subtype, and (possibly, he is still deciding) a harrow deck diviner.

:)

I am a mentor (subscriber) so all my players play for free with all the amenities.

Alright, I am in for consideration

Yea, I have a Roll20 so if you want me to join, just lemme know and I will message you my email for the invite.

Ah, this was my mistake. Ri'el does not usually advertise his celestial heritage, but his eyes are iridescent, and he wears his straw hat in an attempt to obscure it. But I'm happy to assume that Carious noticed his eyes once Ri'el got closer and quickly drew the right conclusion. =)

Ri'el will be a single-classed Shaman (my first single-classed character in awhile) with the life spirit, so he'll be taking the healer role. I'll also stat him so he can get some spells from the wizard list through the wandering lore spirit. Skills-wise, he will focus on sense-motive and perception- he plays the straight guy who observes as his companions get into their various shenenigans, and interjects with a critical observation or a timely spell when the situation calls for it.

At the mention of his celestial heritage Ri'el absently pulls the brim of his hat a little lower over his eyes, though he retains his genial smile.

"The blood of our forebears determine our features and our physical characteristics, and for some even our powers, but the heart of each man is his own, and each responds to the spirits as he is wont. If your heart inclines to you to do good, it is to your credit," he says to Carious with a nod of approval.

Eager to change to topic from that of his heritage, Ri'el turns to Alkyd and extends his hand. "But I apologise, for I have not introduced myself. I am Ri'el, itinerant sailor and sometimes physician. Who are you, good sir, who puts such stock in the heritage of men?

Ri'el hasn't heard Alkyd introduce himself, if I'm not mistaken.

Plus you can chalk it up to aasimars sensing each other in a way. :) "Aye, my heart and all o' me wants to do the right thing, although, sometimes the law might not agree"

Hmm, there may be a good tale brewing here. I am not sure the direction it will go, but they all seem interesting.

Okay, so I just wanted to run this by the current players. I really don't want my characters motivations to become a privateer captain to conflict with any of your backstories, and so would be happy to change it around a bit so that it would work better with your concepts. Either way, I am definitely thinking of staying as a bard/support type.

Alkyd smiles and shakes the man's hand. "The name is Alkyd Bier, future captain of me own ship, minstrel, and part time adventurer." Once she brings her hand back to her mug, she takes a swig and clears her throat. "As for me, I've seen what heritage could do to a man. Growing up in Cheliax with a grandfather who was not only a slaver, but a diabloist, I watched as his tainted roots spouted trees of ambition and vice amongst my parents' generation and my own. I watched my brother..."

She stops short, looking into her mug, for once the smile on her face gone. "I have my reasons to hold heritage in high regard. I may be wrong, but that's just a part of life eh? Live and learn?" At once, she is grinning again and calling for stew.

That works nicely with Sven. He seeks glory and legends.

Doesn't conflict with mine. Carious's backstory is his father trained him in the church. One night as he cleaning up the church brewery, some beggars came along and asked for shelter and nourishment. He provided it. Few days later, glabrezu bursts from the ground and destroys the village. Turns out beggars were Lamashtan cultists nd so he left home to find adventure and slay evil.

"Sounds rough, lass. But we do have to live an' learn as ya said"

Travis walks back into the Formidably Maid after a night of restful sleep. He carries with him the half bottle of whiskey he bought the night before. As yesterday, he is heavily cloaked and hooded, and does nothing to reveal himself once inside the tavern. He heads back over to the group he was with the night before - Carious and Alkyd, plus any who have joined them since he last departed.

"It seems there have been a few changes in clientele since I left. Have you two been here all night? Don't you tire?" He chuckles softly.

Hearing Alkyd's last words just as he settles in, he nods to her. "Aye, each of us has a heritage. Whether we strive to live up to it... or live it down... it is equally boon and burden and goes far in shaping who we become."

"I may have snoozed from too much ale. Happens sometimes. But yes, our heritage influences us ta do good or evil, follow law or pursue chaos. It defines our youth an' our lives"

Lantern Lodge

Ri'el is pretty easy to accommodate. He wants to be out of this port and on a ship as soon as possible, and also to earn some coin for food and lodging before his coin pouch empties. As long as the work is not too unsavoury.

"Indeed, one of the greatest gifts afforded by life is that we can learn as we live. However, Alkyd, I perceive that despite your regard for heritage, you are determined that your destiny not be dictated by your heritage, and have chosen to live accordingly. Are you then not living proof that each man's heart is his own?"

Turning to Travis, he adds, "it is as you say. We can live up to it, or live it down, as our hearts choose. It is the clay that we are given, but how we mold it is for each man to decide."

And from the way you wear your hood, it appears that you too have a past you wish to leave behind.

With that thought in mind, Ri'el extends his hand to Travis. "I do not believe we have been introduced, good sir. I am Ri'el."

She smiles at Travis. "I've been living in this tavern for the past few weeks now. Soon enough I'm going to have to pay a citizenship tax!"

Before she starts singing, she shrugs to Ri'el. "Perhaps I am outlier... or perhaps I am the norm. I am not one to play the philosopher until I have seen sufficient evidence with my own eyes."

She picks up her trusty lute and starts to play a tune, whilst starting up a sonnet. I wrote it, but you might recognize it as inspired by The Bard's Song by Blind Guardian

We bards arrive in the middle of night,
Wrapped in the shadowy cloak of darkness.
Our bodies are young and our faces bright,
And yet the songs in our minds are ageless.

All at once, our voices will fill the air,
And the worries of the day will be gone,
As well as the burdens they’re made to bear,
And all of this, due to our magic songs.

We’ll sing of brave men who lived far from here,
And other wonders, unseen by man’s eye.
But when morning comes, we must disappear,
For we don’t linger if light’s in the sky.

Once we leave, none shall ever know our names,
Though in their minds, the bard’s songs will remain.

Carious swings his tankard to the song.

"I'm sure as long as you spend yer coin and entertain the folks, they'll not tax you as well. Tis said a bard is worth his or her weight in gold, as music can both incite and soothe... handy skills in a place like this." He returns Alkyd's smile with his own.

When she starts to sing and play, he taps his foot in time with the music. Once the tune is established, he hums along a bit.

perform, sing: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Welcome new people, and newly considered. Nicely done. We are planning on picking soon (at least by the weekend) in hopes of starting play Monday.

I do have one small change to make. It was pointed out to me by one of my players that he/she isn't a dex based rogue as I had assumed. He/she is going with a Strength monk build...

My mistake.

So far the party contains:
STR based "monk" type
Dex based gunslinger
and (last I heard) a Harrow Deck based Divinator

Questions and answers for/to the DM:
I understand your preferences for wishing to play the game where you will.

I must admit to being more inclined to wish for play to proceed upon the Paizo boards as the single, simple page where in all my games up date allows me to quickly be updated when new posts appear in a game and I can add a simple post when time allows in an other wise busy schedule.

What I have envisioned for Suny? Initially she will be a 'support' type of character. The Ninja side of her build will allow for quite a good spread of skill to be taken while the Monk will allow her to be a useful combat flanker and such kind of melee supporting character.

In the later stages of the game? I hope for Suny to captain her own ship. (The Bountiful Destruction) as well as another plan to create a 'false ghost ship' and rumor. (The Swift Wraith).

There's also some exotic gun ideas I'd like to try. As well as the research I've done in regards to torsion siege weapons. Namely the Hatra balista

So... form a simple seeming character I hope for much complexity to develop. (^_^)

Again, I would seek to persuade yourself to consider gaming on the Paizo boards. *Bows*

Wishing you and yours all the very best.

answers for Sunset:

I respect and understand your request to keep it here on the paizo boards. All my games are there, so I would be coming over for just this one :) Perhaps I am in the wrong being over here and requesting to play the game somewhere else. what I wish is that Paizo had a function like roll20 so that I wouldn't have to go anywhere! But they have been very slow in their process, and someone else beat them to it.

We will be playing over there, sorry. I understand if that doesn't work for you, and wish you the best in your gaming :)

For the DM:
Thank you in return for your best wishes.

That your reply did not bemoan anything about Suny nor my possibly outrageous plans is heartening. :)

So.. perchance a link to this 'Other place'...? ;)

Once, having had a look, I will be better informed as to being able to play there.

Again, wishing you and yours all the very best.

Wishin' every one all'a very bestest! (^_^)

Once she is finished speaking the words of her sonnet, she continues the tune on her lute and turns her gaze to Travis. "I've always been the kind who wanted to command. Call it a symptom of my Hellish upbringing. However, my goal is to command in such a way that we are striving towards a noble goal, and the people under my lead have as much say in the decisions of the whole as I do. Really, I see my role as my of a guiding hand that would need to take charge, and steer the wheel to safety should our metaphorical ship be sailing too close to the rocks."

And indeed, she is Neutral Good, so she actually means this :3

"Being captain of your own ship is a grand plan to be sure, but they say that 'heavy is the head that bears a crown'. Being 'in charge' is a great burden. Myself, I'm just as happy to let others bear such a burden and working with and for the one in charge. Besides, my skill with people isn't so great, a fact I've learned well over the years, and while a captain doesn't NEED to be popular, it doesn't hurt now does it?" He gives a half smile to the lovely bard. "I think your goal may be noble to be sure, but too much diplomacy aboard a ship leads to anarchy. Sometimes a guiding hand needs to be a stern one as well... " he shrugs.

Indeed! Someone must spread the legends!

Alkys nods. "I think I understand. I am definitely one who could be the public face the crew, but I think that I would need a small ruling council which is competent, stern, and talented. sounds a bit like an adventuring party doesn't it? That way, the crew could still have its likable public leader, yet still have a stern ruling body that allows me to avoid mutiny. All and all, I think that combination is what is best for morale."

"In a sense, a captain and his officers are like a leader with a ruling council. Ultimately though the captain gets the credit for success and the blame for failure. Ah, the joys of leadership! I applaud you your intent to be such a leader."

He nods to Sven. "Aye, you've the right of it there... We didn't really get a chance to meet last night - you were just entering as I was preparing to skedaddle. Name's Travis."

Travis Brogan wrote:

"The joys of being such a leader indeed. While it is true that the risks are great, I see the rewards as worth that risk." She lowers her voice and with absolute joy on her face, says, "Being able to hunt pirates using their own tactics, helping people, and becoming rich and famous all while at it? Those are the joys of being a privateer. I can tell now, that you know your way around. Perhaps we could be a part of this plan, eh? I may not have a ship yet, but it's only a matter of time before I do, and I will be able to get a charter from some small settlement to attack pirates, and then expand out into the rest of the Shackles."

"Attacking pirates or even Chelaxian warships is a grand goal, but sometimes a bit softer target might be warranted, especially when first starting out... maybe slavers or unscrupulous merchanters and smugglers? just have to be pragmatic... getting a charter usually means you've got some notoriety already, you know? To be honest, my own scruples are not as meticulous as your own, but I don't mind sticking to deserving targets either."

Suny quietly sips at her Rum... trying to keep up with the quickly spoken conversations in a language she isn't quite familiar with.

"Oh! We seen Pirates back home." She pipes up, "...An', when they's rilly bad? We throw rocks at 'em ta' make 'em go away...." She blinks....

"They's rilly big rocks.... " She explains quietly.

(^_~)

I absolutely love Suny's 'facial' expressions. And actually... just Suny in general.

"That sounds fair enough. Start off with the smaller fish in the sea, and work your way up the food chain... It also works in a practical way as well, as we could gain more supplies and better equipment before taking on the other targets. As for as targeting those who are deserving, I just see it this way. There are those out there who are sheep -the innocents- and the wolves. Not only is it more satisfying to attack a wolf, but you are also more likely to leave with allies. There are those who would be grateful we are dispensing justice. If we become a wold ourselves, we would have to rely on either untrustworthy sorts, or no one at all."

She turns to Suny. "I don't think I would say so too loudly. We are surrounded by pirates right now after all."

Thank-e! (^_^)

Suny blinks in complete surprise at Alkyd's words and the tanned Elf looks about herself. (O_o)

"We dun't throw rocks at tha' nice pirates..." She adds ... shuffling a little closer to the other woman...

Lantern Lodge

Ri'el leans against the counter as he takes a sip of his ale, though he barely tastes his beverage as he turns a keen ear to the exchange between Alkyd and Travis. He considers their words for a moment before offering his own opinion.

"Sticking with deserving targets also has the advantage of ensuring that the un-deserving targets and the legal entities that protect them will not be hunting us in turn. Since those we may deem 'deserving targets' are not likely to discriminate in their targets and see us as viable prey anyway, such an approach to sea-faring potentially halves one's list of adversaries on the high seas."

"As a personal anecdote, I myself have little taste for slavery or needless bloodshed, and I would rather make friends than enemies. Miss Bier, if...when you come to own a vessel of your own and come to consider your crew, should yourself in need of a healer, a skilled sailor or even just a keen eye on your vessel, perhaps you would keep me in mind?" he says politely as he raises his tankard slightly in her direction.

Hear, hear. And I can offer moral, to enhance your crews fighting spirit, and to spread your legend.

"Only the gods read as: "those making selections" can decide whether or not I will have my opportunity any time soon. However, I can promise you all this. No matter who here finds themselves in the midst of adventure, and how soon... you will all be in my heart as I start my own. We are, after all, the heroes of our own journeys, and no matter who ends up where, I can tell that we will all have our moments of glory and greatness."

Suny bounces and 'fist pumps' to Alkyd's stirring words.

"HUZZAH!" (^_^)

"I seek neither glory nor greatness... but neither will I shed them needlessly if they find their way to me. I heard a blessing from Tian Xia told to me by one of my Masters once, 'May you live in interesting times.' It was as much a curse as a blessing I think, but I wish it for each and every one of us, for interesting times lead to adventure and for those who seek it, glory and greatness." He looks over at Alkyd and gives his typical little half-smile. "How about another song?"

Sorry, had to go somewhere.

Carious looks around at the others, "Ya all be fine people in my book. Hopefully, I will be able ta join ya in your adventures. We would sail the seas, crusaders and bucaneers at the same time, fightin' the evil that sprouts in men an' grows at sea, spreadin' good word and good drink. That sounds like the adventure of a lifetime ta me."
