Sunny, |
Sunny nods, obviously happy at Carious' encouragement. She tilts her head a little,
"Why'd they miss they's tooths?" She asks perplexed. "Ye be speakin' as right gooder as I be?" Sunny scratches at her blond mop of hair even as she sips again from her mug.
Will Save:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Completely missing the point of how badly she speaks! XD
Suny |
Will be re-working this avatar. Sorry for any confusion. ;)
Suny blinks as Carious' meaning dawns upon her. "Oh..." And she nods. Then tilts her head. "So... peoples... ? They dun't be soundin' tha' same...?" She asks, again puzzled. "I dun't hear none difference when kin be speakin'..." She blinks again listening intently as Travis and Carious chat.
Travis Brogan |
"Andoran eh? that's quite a distance to have sailed to arrive here, in the armpit of the Shackles. I'm glad you hear from your sister regularly. I haven't seen mine since I was twelve and went to sea. I do miss her, and often wonder where life has taken her. It's been a long time."
He turns to Sunny and shrugs. "I hear the differences, though in truth I know that if you're less familiar with the language, things like accents and such are less obvious. In time, your ear for such things will improve."
"So, Carious, are all your siblings like you... of heavenly descent? I ask out of curiosity, as I've always wondered if all children of the same unions share the same anomalies... I've heard not always, but the subject fascinates."
Carious Resana |
"Aye, is a long way from home. But I needed time away from home after...certain events transpired. Ah, I see you noticed my peculiar look. Yes me,Roran,Lorianne, and Zex are all aasimars...quadruplets,actually, a rare occurrence. Means our mom died in childbirth, sadly. Roran's off practicin' martial arts in Jalmeray or Tian Xia, I forget. Lorianne is practicin' alchemy in Thuvia. And Zex was in the Mana Wastes for awhile, but now last I heard, he was up in Numeria."
:Ri'el: |
Submitting Ri'el for consideration. He'd previously been in a S&S game, but the GM dropped the game after the very first..."test" on-deck, so I know next to nothing about the campaign beyond the intro.
Ri's backstory is in the profile, though the crunch will need to be reworked. He is an Aasimar Animist Shaman with the life spirit. Fleeing a difficult past and the numerous enemies his father had accumulated, Ri'el seeks either anonymity or enough of a reputation to dissuade any would-be avengers for his father's misdeeds. He has chosen the life of a sailor because he reckons he would be harder to track if he spends most of his time at sea, and he tends to jump from crew to crew in order to keep his trail cold. Pirate, merchant, privateer, the type of crew has come to matter relatively little to him as he sees each stint as a temporary thing to tide him over till the next opporunity comes along.
Ri'el is quiet and soft-spoken, though also a little world-weary, and because he feels a closer connection to the natural and spiritual worlds than the world of men, he is sometimes mistaken for being cold and aloof. The reality is that he just feels more comfortable around beings that most other mortals cannot see or tend to overlook, and it certainly does not help when he speaks of the spirits in the presence of other mortals as if everyone could see them. Nonetheless, his words are often also considered and deliberate, and he is often the voice of reason and advocate of peace amongst the crews he serves on - something of a rarity on the high seas.
Getting off work now, will make an in-character post when I get home.
Travis Brogan |
"Thanks... Children are supposed to outlive their parents... it's the natural order of things, but not until they are ready to be on their own."
But no one should have to witness their father's murder...he may have been a right bastard, and he may have died defending his ship, which is noble in its own way. Still, I wish I'd never seen it.
"Sorry about your father's fate, too. Mine is gone as well, but somewhere I think I may still have a living mother and sister. I comfort myself with that thought at times."
Travis lifts his glass and toasts, "To family." and downs another drink. This time he doesn't pour a new one, though his bottle is still half full.
Suny |
Suny blinks, re-focusing on Travis,
"Oh! I yam from home." She immediately responds proudly/brightly. (^_^)
"...Um...I dun't know how ta' say it tha' other way in'a speakin' of peoples.... " She frowns,
"It be one a tha' lots a islands waaay ways off ta' tha' South-South East." And she absently waves a hand off into space. "Tha' kin all be livin' there, on'a islands whut be scattered all over tha' place..." She ponders "I can un'erstand maps right enough. If'n we had one I could maybe point in'a right directions. Hmmm..."
"We gets boats come limpin' in't bay... especially after tha' great storm ta' North gets all big an' stuffs..." Her face growing a little more serious as she talks about the "Eye of Abadengo'. "So... m'self an' some friends? We finally gots curious enough ta' be fixin' our selfs ta' tha' hull of tha' latest an' headin' out ta' see tha' world!" (^_^)
Then she looks down at her tanned self. "Rilly?" She seems quite puzzled "I truly in't seen a lot of kin for other paces." She frowns, trying to think back "T'were a long time since kin from real afar been seen at home. Most of tha' kin about tha' islands, they all just travel about the same... Ye ken?" Then thinks back over their shared conversation about siblings.
"Oh! T'is grand ye've close kin!" She exclaims. "I got lots o' cousins an' relatives an' such all over tha' islands." Then her features grow a little more serious and she even offers an arm to Travis in a hug around his shoulders.
"Awe.. I be sure that if we travel enough we be crossin' paths with yer kin. My kin wander about tha' place all'a time." She nods.
"Ta FAMILY!" Suny joins in the cheers and toasting.
Travis Brogan |
"I am island born myself, though not from so far south. Sorry I don't have a map, as I'd love to see where you're from... It must have been wonderful growing up with so much kinfolk around."
When Sunny tries to hug him he shrugs away, as if afraid of being embraced...
"Not a hugger, sorry. I'd like to see my sister and mother again... but I don't know if they travel, and I no longer recall where our island home is... I haven't been there in many many years. You are lucky your kin travel about, perhaps you'll meet some of them here in Port Peril even."
:Ri'el: |
Between the music and chatter drawing almost every eye and ear in the room, few of the patrons notice the door opening just enough to admit a slightly-built man of Tien descent. His clothes are worn and weathered, and in the gloom of the tavern's lanterns his frayed straw hat casts a long shadow over his weather-beaten face.
Well now, this is a surprise. The Maid is a little more crowded than usual. Several new faces, though that's hardly uncommon in the shackles. Now then, I wonder who's hiring?
As Ri'el surveys the room, his attention is caught by the small gathering by the bar and their toasts to "family". He winces a little at the toasts and the memories that it brought forth unbidden. But he allows himself a moment to dwell on the past before gathering them up and pushing them to the back of his mind.
"Like an old book no longer worth re-reading," he mutters to himself.
Returning his attention to the scene before him, he notices that the elf had already left. However, a quick scan of the room quickly leads him to conclude that the remnant of the gathering still held the largest concentration of general capability in the room by far.
"If there's place on a crew to be found, I reckon I'm most likely to find it hanging out with them."
With that thought in mind, Ri'el steps towards the group, returning Suny's wave with a smile and slow nod of his head.
"Greetings gentlemen, milady," he says genially, "is this a private gathering or can anybody join?
I get that Ri'el is a little more polite and formal than what one might expect of a pirate. The contrast is deliberate and intended to make him stick out a little. It also comes from and alludes to the fact that Ri'el spends more time speaking with spirits than the people around him, though those conversations will mostly happen 'off-screen'.
Suny |
Suny nods and smiles at this latest arrival, though her feet are still absently tapping along to the beat of Sven's last tune/song.
"Aye! Welcome t'ye!" She replies to the fellow who's just wandered up. "I dun't think we's any one's privates...?" She looks around at Carious and Sven.
Am also hoping to 'talk to' some of the others who've also previously posted. Different time zones obviously affecting when people can post. (^_^)
Alkyd Bier |
Definitely right about e time zones. You caught me posting around 12 o'clock lasted night. I should be active from now to about that time today XD
After that exciting burst of energy from the elf, and the bits of conversation in which Alkyd seemed like she could not get a single word into, she finally laughed openly. "I like you Suny. You've got a right proper energy about you, that you do. And what about you good sir, this is no private meeting, though I reckon that this is a meeting of future privateers. Step right up and have a drink sir." She whistles to call over Barkeep for more ale, and points to the stranger. "He'll be needing something."
She turns to Sven, the skald, and gives a standing ovation. "Aye, it's been quite a long while since I heard anther talented in the musical arts. I'm a minstrel by trade, but you could mostly hear me either signing or playing this here lute. It's a good way, I find, to Inspire courage with the men and women under your command."
"And though I have not said anything earlier... To family. To the good and true in your family... But curse those members who smear your good name with their evil."
Jack Thimble, Jr. |
At work at the moment or I'd put up some more details. I'll get into the RP some more when I'm at home!
Amid the clamor and bustle of the busy port town, Jack was delighted. Stepping off the deck of the Grizzled Grindylow, the trade vessel that had carried him all the way here from Devil's Arches, Jack tipped his tricorn hat to the boatswain before strolling down the dock, whistling a jaunty tune. Port Peril, along with all its dangerous delights, awaited him!
From the grinning cutthroats to the bar toughs, he could see that this place was the spitting image of a pirate port. Rapier at his side, he sidled into a tavern whose appealing-seeming sign bore the image of a buxom serving maid with the type of bosom a charming young halfling man could get lost in. "Formidably Maid," he thought to himself. "That's either a good pun or the spelling's a bad joke."
As his eyes adjusted to the gloom of the busy tavern, he sidestepped past a serving wench carrying a platter of drinks and made his way to the bar. It wasn't long before he caught sight of the gaggle of talkative bar patrons, and sidled over to join in the conversation. "So what be bringin' all ye loudmouths to Port Peril then, eh?" he says with a charming grin, showing he clearly means no offense. "Me name be Jack Thimble Jr., if'n ye be wonderin'. Ye look like an entertain' bunch to say the least!"
Carious Resana |
Carious looks at the new arrival, "Ah, another o' my kind. Haven't seen another celestial-blood in quite awhile. It's not private, you may come and take a seat." Carious calls for more ale to be poured in his tankard.
If Ri'el is hiding his celestial features, then just ignore this. I assume he's an aasimar given what you said last night.
And with that, I'm up for more RPing.
Carious Resana |
Carious turns to this new arrival, "Aye, we are a pretty interestin' bunch. As for me, I am Carious Resana, inquisitor of Cayden Cailean, at your service, and I am in these shady parts because life on the high seas sounds like a right good time to me, plus I heard some enemies o' my faith are lurkin' about."
Brayden Green |
Welcome sunny, jack, ri'el and nohwear :)
Great RP. If you haven't already, you should also drop a quick idea of what role you intend to play so my players know, if it is any role, put any role. So far in the campaign we have a gunslinger, a rogue based dex based, and a possible harrow card divine.
It also might help you to know my house tules. I will try to post them today. One of them that might come in handy for melee is thatif a char is using light weapons they can attack with dex instead of strength (basically I give weapon finesse for free). Damage is still based on strength.
Alkyd Bier |
I am personally going to play a bard with a focus on charisma based skills and support. Let's not forget all that juicy knowledge that comes from those bardic stories. You know, the sort who desperately wants to lead her fellows into adventure, willing to break that law when absolutely necessary, but preferring to have at least the aid or approval of a higher authority (thou in the Shackles, that might not necessarily mean much. But that's why I said she wanted to be a captain of privateers, not pirates.
As Jack walks into the tavern, and the place starts getting filled with all sorts of interesting people, Alkyd simply raises her glass in greeting. Aye, this is certainly an interesting sort. Two of angel blood in the same town? That's a curious coincidence I haven't heard one before... Perhaps Gozreh is suggesting I put together a divine crew!"
EDIT: I also have no skills/stats up, mainly because you said not to worry about statblocks yet. I'll do so if you tell me to set them up (Along with way you want us to choose stats)
