9th Lvl Dimensional Dervish EK build (PFS)

Advice

Sovereign Court

Wondering how this build looks for a Dimensional Dervish Eldritch Knight. I'm using the Retraining rules at 9th lvl to retrain my 5th and 7th lvl feats.

EK Build:

Class – Divination: Scryer Wizard

Race – Human or Half-Elf?

Traits -
* Focused Mind
* Magical Knack

Arcane Bond –
* Frog or Ring/Amulet

Stats -
Str: 18 +2
Dex: 14
Con: 15
Int: 13
Wis: 9
Cha: 7

1) Fighter 1 : Bab +1 | FREE (Fighter), Combat Casting (lvl 1), +1hp
2) Scryer Wizard 1: Bab +1 |
3) Eldritch Knight 1: Bab +2 | FREE (lvl 3), FREE (EK)
4) Eldritch Knight 2: Bab +3 | +1 Int
5) Eldritch Knight 3: Bab +4 | Dimensional Assault (5)
6) Eldritch Knight 4: Bab +5 |
7) Eldritch Knight 5: Bab +6/+1 | Dimensional Dervish (lvl 7), FREE (EK)
8) Eldritch Knight 6: Bab +7/+2 | +1 Con
9) Eldritch Knight 7: Bab +8/+3 | Dimensional Agility (lvl 9)
10) Eldritch Knight 8: Bab +9/+4 |
11) Eldritch Knight 9: Bab +10/+5 | FREE (lvl 11), FREE (EK)

*At 9th level: Retrain 5th level Feat to Dimensional Assault
*At 9th level: Retrain 7th level Feat to Dimensional Dervish

Not sure what all feats I should take. I believe full summoner would qualify at 8th level for Dimensional Dervish chain with retrains but from what I can tell the EK build above would be a stronger teleport fighter. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Also, does Magical Knack raise your spells per day and spells known by +2 up to your max level? Or does it just simply increase the effects of spells like Magical Missle counting as 3rd level instead of 1st while at lvl 3?

Magical Knack only raises your caster level, I'm afraid. On the other hand, I'm glad it is! Its already a very powerful and ubiquitous trait!

Also, I'm afraid you cannot enter EK at third level without access to 3rd level Arcane spells. I think you might be confusing casterlevel with spelllevel (que link to Order of the Stick strip). A third level spell is Fireball, regardless what caster level you have and what Metamagic Feats (Except for Heighten Spell) you attach to it. A Magic Missile at caster level 3 is still only a 1st level spell.

There is a loophole, however! Some races come with spell-like abilities attached. If you can find one with a 3rd level arcane spell, that'll satisfy the prerequisites. Note that it needs to be precise. A 4th level spell will not allow you to qualify. If you want to go this route apparently Aasimar work and are popular.

Alternatively, ask your GM to relax the entry requirements. The loophole above is legal because the designers agree that these prestige classes are otherwise suboptimal choices. That arguement might persuade your DM to make a one-time exception.

As for your actaul questions, besides the one on Magical Knack, I'm afraid my help would be no good :p Others will probably come along to offer you some good advice though. Good luck!

Scryer gets "Send Senses" which is a 3rd level spell. So going into EK shouldn't be a problem.

Just want to point out also that Aasimars are not longer legal in PFS unless you have a boon or the character was created prior to the change in allowed races within PFS this year.

Do appreciate your advice though, that clears up my Magical Knack questions. Still seems worth my time to take as one of my two traits.

There is a Teamwork feat that raises the bonus for flanking to +4 - quite useful since you will be flanking with yourself!

Depending on how you feel about armour and casting, either Still Spell or Arcane Armour Training/Mastery (these are Combat feats, which means you can pick them up with your fighter/ek bonus slots) can be handy.

Arcane Strike is really nice until you want to use your swift action for something else. Perhaps one of the feats to take and retrain? If you decide to keep it, Riving Strike from the ACG is a teamwork-oriented follow-up.

Power Attack is always useful to have around when whacking people.

I'd go with the bonded item for the arcane bond, so you'll have one extra use of dimension door per day with it.

Another option for Dimensional Dervish is the Horizon Walker PrC, which can get DDoor as an SLA (and you'll have more uses per day than you will as a wizard). If you take your 6 levels in Slayer before that, you can get a little sneak attack to take advantage of Dimensional Savant, as well.

I'd most likely go with the Still Spell route. Don't think Arcane Strike will be that useful since Dimensional Dervish will use up my Swift action later on. I don't think the Teamwork feat works unless I have someone else with the teamwork feat but maybe it does since I'm flanking with myself? Odd situation for a teamwork feat so I don't know how many would allow it?

I think the Horizon Walker PrC gets Dimensional chain a little later. I think the EK gets more hp, full bab, and advances my spell progression albeit at -1. Seems like the EK is just a better choice overall compared to whatever class I'd take and then going into Horizon Walker.

I was going to come in here and say that this was inaccurate, but turns out it is? Huh.

That actually makes a lot of builds a lot better for Dimensional Dervish, since it otherwise comes online stupidly later.

Anyways, I was going to talk about Horizon Walker. As you said, Horizon Walker is better from an EK perspective. However, for those seeking only a martial leaning it tends to be better, especially for stuff like Paladins and Bloodragers who can grab a decent Charisma for more uses.

And yes, Outflank would, as you count as your own ally.

The Horizon Walker gets his DDoor SLA at level 3 (after 6 levels of prereqs), which means he gets it at level 9, the same time as the EK version. But he gets to do it 3+Wis times per day, so probably at least 5/day by that level (compared to 1 or 2 per day for the EK, depending on whether you've shelled out for the +4 headband). The Slayer/Horizon Walker version would also have a few more hp (d10 hit die, and no need for a dip into a d6 class), full BAB (which means he can pick up Dimensional Savant at level 9), more skills, +2d6 sneak attack, 3 slayer talents (good for picking up bonus feats), +2 favored target, tracking bonus, and 2 favored terrains (but one of these has to be the Astral Plane). On the other hand, the EK version gets wizard spellcasting 2 levels behind, a couple of bonus feats, and doesn't need the Endurance prereq.

The EK is of course going to have more versatility, but will be somewhat worse at the DDoor schtick.

Now for some general advice:

-Remember that casting spells as a swift action doesn't provoke AoOs, so you don't need Combat Casting for your Dimensional Dervish.
-To be the coolest with this concept, you want more attacks, so you should probably go with the TWF chain
-It doesn't make much sense to start with 18 Str, and then put your stat bump into Int. Go with 14 Int and 17 Str instead, and you save yourself a build point. 15 Con is probably also overkill since you have a d10 hit die for all but 1 level; 14 is plenty.

Honestly not sure why anyone without sneak attack would want this feat chain other than for coolness factory, 3 feats is an awful lot to spend on something just for Lolz where as a sneak attacker with this feat is guaranteeing himself extra dice of sneak attack every round.

Using any race with a 2nd level SLA would give you: Rogue Knife Master 3 Wizard 1 Arcane Trickster 8.

It hits the feat 2 levels later but comes with 6d8 sneak attack. toss in Quick Draw, the Weapon Finesse rogue talent, and two weapon fighting and you'll be delivering some mean sneak damage.
