Ridiculous crit damage

If a monster does 8d6 fire damage on a touch (or ranged touch) attack, and it crits, it does 16d6 fire damage, yes?

(I'm looking at you Witchfire; and your ability to have already given the target vulnerability to fire; and your so called CR9.)

Yes.

I will say it's not quite as ridiculous as it sounds though. That's an average of 56 damage (84 with Fire Vulnerability), which is a beefy hit, but about par for the course on crits for that level (Compare/contrast a Frost Giant crit for 9d6+66, or an average of 97 damage).

True, but take into account the +13 attack against touch AC, insubstantial too, which almost guarantees a hit with every attack.

Oh yes, and I'm sure that your frost giant will be power attacking too, for an additional +9 damage or +27 on a crit. :)

The witchfire is strong for a CR 9 if you are not ready for an incorporeal flyer, but one fire resistant spell drops the average DPR by a lot.

Most groups however can handle a flying and invisible creatures by level 9.

That's including Power Attack.

I thought you were talking about a cyclops with a flaming burst acid burst tetsubo.
