2-13 Throaty Mermaid faction missions no longer needed now?

Now that faction missions (and most of their factions as well) are a thing of the past, do you just dispense with using the handouts? Also, should you just pick the murderer before hand?

The secondary success condition for this scenario is still based on the faction mission handouts. You'll still want to have them ready to hand out.

There is a sidebar discussing how to determine who the murderer is, but you are more than welcome just to pick who you think makes the most sense. Still, the guidelines are not bad.

For more general discussion, you can check the thread here.

OK, but those factions don't exist anymore, so how do you determine who gets what handout? Do you just randomly disperse those notes? Recently I sat at a table with all new factions with no one being of the old social order.

Match the new factions to the factions they evolved from. Dark Archive = Cheliax, Liberty's Edge = Andoran, etc.

After doing a number of searches, I am still unable to find the faction conversion list. Anyone have a more targeted suggestion as to where I can find the "what is what" now?

The Guide to Organized Play has the conversions. If you've already downloaded it, make sure it has the Season 6 artwork or you will need to redownload. Here is the relevant text.

5 old factions and now 7 new ones. Who belongs to Grand lodge and Silver Crusade?

Those stayed the same

Seasons 0–2: For the first three seasons of the campaign, only five factions were available for characters to ally with. As such, members of the newer factions introduced in Season 3 playing older scenarios may utilize faction missions from another faction, as follows.

• Grand Lodge faction PCs should treat Osirion faction missions as their own for all Season 0, 1, and 2 scenarios.

• Silver Crusade faction PCs should treat Andoran faction missions as their own for all Season 0, 1, and 2 scenarios.

Thank you. I'll work with that.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Whew, glad I saw this thread, I am running this on Wednesday and I had an "uh oh" moment when I realized that none of the players signed up belong to any of the 5 original factions :P

I always give out the faction missions for every scenario. Yes, you no longer get points for succeeding (well, except in a few scenarios where one of them becomes the secondary mission requirement), but they often contain information the players can use. They also contain lore and background information, and I'm a big far of "more lore" at the table. If players want to ignore them, that's their choice, but it is a choice that should be made by the player and not the GM.

OK, minor point of confusion here...

Can players earn more than 2 for this scenario?

I ask because the wording at the end is different. Under the Faction Missions listing it lists a prestige award for each faction, then lists a bonus prestige award for each faction.

So now I am curious, can this award 3 prestige points? The Secondary Success condition sheet lists the Primary success condition, then it says to use the faction missions... but the faction missions all have the possibility for 2 prestige points, not just one.

You are still capped at 2 PP per scenario. You can earn the secondary prestige from either faction mission, but you only get one even if you do both.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I'll take your word for it, however, that is not how the section is written in the scenario.

I states succeed on first mission, earn 1 prestige award... do the second listed mission and earn 1 bonus prestige award.

When coupled with the Secondary Success document, which reads complete the mission, get 1 prestige; Secondary Success, unlike other previous season missions, use the Faction missions.

It was the "bonus" bit with two awards per faction, not listed as either/or, but one and another that had me wondering. I even looked back at other scenarios from the same season and checked the Faction Awards wording and it is not the same for them.

See my confusion?

Mostly I want to be sure that I am not short shifting my players in terms of rewards if they go out of their way to do it all.

The Guide to Organized Play trumps the scenario, as it is more recently updated.

Sczarni 4/5

The scenario was written when 1 pp per mission was the norm, but occasionally you could get two. When the doc that outlines the secondary success conditions was written that trumped what the scenarios themselves said for prestige

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Sounds good.. like I said, I just like to make sure I cover all bases, just to be sure, because anytime there is an inconsistency or ambiguity it allows for questions.
