In a particular scenario there is a a unique named weapon that I am considering purchasing for one of my characters. The weapon does not list a size, but it does list a weight which is the correct weight for a Medium-sized version of that item.
My questions are:
1. Can I buy and use a size Small version of this item?
2. If so, do I use the weight of the original item or the Small version (1/2 the original weight)?
The Guide to PFS (p. 22) leads me to believe that I can buy a Small version of this unique item and that it should be 1/2 the weight:
PCs can always buy weapons and equipment off their Chronicle sheets and the approved equipment lists for their size so long as their size is Small or Medium. Thus, if a Chronicle sheet offers a Small PC the opportunity to purchase a +1 frost longsword, she can always buy the +1 frost longsword at size Small. Items found while playing the scenario, however, are the size they are when they’re found. The size can only be adjusted up or down after the scenario is over, while the PCs are buying new gear. PCs purchasing equipment at sizes other than Small and Medium must adjust the prices per the existing weapon size rules (Core Rulebook 144).
Just double-checking here.

1) Yes.
2) Follow normal rules, so 1/2 weight.BretI Venture-Lieutenant, Minnesota—Minneapolis |

I guess I am confused.
The Guide says this:

And I admit that I'm confused by this paragraph, which is why I'm asking here. I'd love to see some clarification.
The bolded sections seem to disagree as to whether we can buy Tiny or Large weapons.

But it looks like the last line of the second section the fox quotes "pcs purchasing equipment at sizes other than small and medium must adjust the per the existing weapon size rules"
That sentence leads me to believe one could buy a tiny backpack or a large battle axe, both are equipment. I think that buying a unique large item is similar. I only wonder if the cost is multiplied of the Final product or the mundane part. makes sense it would just be the mundane part that costs more.
I think the first line that The Fox has bolded is in relation to the always available list where as buying special sized gear is something someone needs the fame for. And that a large weapon or tiny weapon may not always be "always available" which makes one wonder about all the dwarves using large dwarven waraxes or even Amiri, the pre-gem.

There is no contradiction. A medium character can adjust a purchase down to small, and a small can adjust up to medium. The options still remain small or medium only.

Quote:PCs purchasing equipment at sizes other than Small and Medium must adjust the prices per the existing weapon size rules. What does this sentence mean, then?
I'd assume it means dor purchasing with fame etc. The first part mentions purchasing from chronicles while the last bit appears to cover other purchases.

For the unique Chronicle items, I'd say Small or Medium only (going off of the first bolded section), and for other regular items I'd go off of the second bolded section.
Please note: there are no rules for purchasing tiny-sized weapons, only tiny-sized armor (which my Quasit was very upset over, I might add).

Nefreet, I read there being one additional restriction. A small or medium PC buying an (unsized) item from a chronicle can only buy his own size. See the bolded text in TheFox's post above.
When an item in a chronicle calls out a size, I would see one of two readings. 1: They can only buy it as written. 2: They can buy it only as the same relative-to-medium size. Number one is straightforward. To explain number two, an example:
There is a chronicle that offers something like a large, cold-iron heavy mace. In reading number two, a small PC could only buy it as a medium, cold-iron heavy mace.
I'm inclined to RAW being reading number one.
