At the time, I was just silly riffing on the first thing that popped into my mind. I never expected Andrew to glean a germ of an actual article idea in it.
I was actually referencing the VeggieTales song "I Love My Lips," in which Larry ends up in the lip ward of the hospital, and learns the Polish word for "lip" ("Usta") from his roommate. Sure it's obscure, but the set-up was just too perfect.

I understand!
I...I understood that—that reference.
In seriousness, I'll be sending a few bardic Masterpieces over shortly. Nothing huge, but I always felt bad about never submitting anything in the past.

Who is "we"?
Hm. I know Anthony Adam did a side trek for Wayfinder #10 (?)--the desert themed one; he got in contact with Tim early on and had play testing, proof reading and-what-not going on before he turned it in. Some others were done by Neil Spicer.
Is it that strict now? My guess is on the work that might be involved if the piece of work delivered takes a major overhaul to become "presentable".

People from Ustalav are called Ustalavs. The adjective used to describe things from Ustalav is Ustalavic.
I know this is nitpicking, but are you sure about that? I only ask because I'm following the wiki, which seems to go with "Ustalavan" as the Ustalav adjective. :P

"We" as in we the people sending in stuff.
On the first page it just says that anyone is allowed to send in seeds, for a total of 325 words, but not an adventure itself. In issue #11 I remember seeing three sets of seeds, and one adventure. Was just wondering if a specific person got to send in the adventures, or if that's something discussed privately. Either one's fine, I was just curious how that went.

Kevin, if you want to actually do a full-on adventure, you have to run it by me first....and early. Adventures are a hefty commitment of time, art resources (illustration AND map), and pages. I like when they can be pulled off in 1500 words (2 pages), and I'm usually OK with those just showing up. Anything requiring 3000 words (4 pages) needs to be pitched, just like in "real" magazines, because that is a big article. Pitching me the "seed" with a possible outline? That's a good start.
And early. You still have to get it in under the deadline for the most part. The editing process will further refine it, but we need it pretty well done by that point. Tweaking and adjustments come in the edits.

Cool. That is exactly what I needed to know. I'd seen adventures in previous magazines, and thought this issue either wasn't going to have any, or only specific people were involved with that particular aspect.

I overshot the word count on my short fiction, so I uploaded it here for anyone that might want to read it.

I was a bit late with my submissions this time, but will try and pick up the pace for next issue.
Tim and Paris were kind enough to accept a 1500 word Side Trek Adventure from me for Osirion, unbidden. For my part, I saw that they were included in the past and just took a shot. Similar for this issue; I just took a 1500 word shot. If it turns out that it is not accepted, I understand. For future issues, I'll send in an early pitch and request.
Thank you, Tim and Paris, for putting forth so much effort to make this magazine a dynamite hit. If we meet in person, I owe you each many beers.

For magic items do I need to design enough items to fill an entire 750 word article, or can I just submit one to be combined with those written by others?
Hey Canada Guy,
I'm working on a couple of items as well, but probably not enough for a full article's worth. If we can't turn in single item entries, I'll split 750 words with you if you want.

I'd be up for that. I've got a horror themed item, a porcelain doll that compels children who play with it to kill their parents. It's currently 206 words long. If you think that would fit in with your items let me know and we'll figure something out.

Creepy! I love it. :) I'm working on traveling cloaks to help survive the Ustalavic nights, so I'm not quite sure how we can tie them together, but we'll think of something.

"Items found in an attic" maybe? :p
two items probably aren't enough to fill a 750 or 1500 word article, so if anyone else has any stray magic items laying around, or wants to make a quick last minute submission, feel free to chime in.
We could compile a bunch into an article about a mysterious magic item shop, maybe?

Hmmm, maybe the Witchmarket made a stop in Ustalav? Or a vendor (who got kicked out of the Witchmarket) who stopped their traveling sales cart in Ustalav?

I had a similar thought. I just wrote a short introduction for "The Rose and Cauldron" a mysterious little shop down the back alleys of Caliphas.
If anyone has any items they'd like to "submit to the shop" let me know!

I've got a couple that I managed to save from the hard drive crashes, but not enough for a full article. PM sent.

To everyone thinking of contributing a item to the combined article I'm working on:
You're welcome to send me your finished item via private message. I'm going to wait and see how many items people have sent me by noon tomorrow. I'll select as many items as I can to combine into a single article and submit it with all the contributors names on it.
I'll select items to include based on how well they fit the theme, word count, and formatting.
So far I have 5 items for potential inclusion.
Be sure to include your name for inclusion in the final article, and email so the editors can contact you if necessary.
The article will be framed around the concept of a back alley magic shop which sells all kinds of occult oddities.
Just to be clear, I'm just another fan and have no idea if the final article will actually make it into the issue.

Ho boy, what a week.
I've got over a bout of the flu, that took me and my boy out over Christmas, and managed to wrestle enough hours of sole PC custodianship off him to go over the half-finished draft I had nagging at me.
If ever I had to learn the meaning of the phrase 'kill your darlings', I did it with this. My earworm didn't survive collision with the Gazetteer, but comes out transformed by canon into a completely different beast.

The Carnival of Tears would also fit this issue. Some cruel attraction for/to reduce the masses, most likely...

Kavapesta... done. There goes my third article. One for Fiction, one for Songs and Poetry, and on for Golarion Gazetteer.
Nice!
I only had time to complete two this go around... I am researching to see if I can make one more happen before deadline, but that might not work out.
I did two this time, one fluffy one about the Church customs and styles of Pharasma in Ustalav and a Gazetteer on Saintsgrove. So we shall see. If they don't get picked, I may put them on a blog somewhere so fans can read it.
But man, having to research Uragotha and Penitence styles all in one weekend. That's was a lot of heavy stuff.

Ok, I just got my one and only article submission polished and sent in finally. Good luck everybody! (Darn that RPG Superstar contest!)
BTW: Have we heard what the next Wayfinder subject will be?
For it being my first time, I'm happy that I managed to get two articles in. I was considering a third, but didn't want to push my luck.
No idea on the next subject, but if Tim would be ever so kind as to let us know early, quick research on the subject can be done.

I'm currently at a word count of 1176 for the combined magic item article with a total of 7 items from 3 writers.
If anyone else has a stray magic item they'd like to ad to our "occult thrift shop" to help fill out the 1,500 word count please send it to me via private message along with your name and email, otherwise I'll have to trim it down to a smaller 750 word article.

Ustalav is for Ustalovers
I'm pretty happy with being able to turn a silly title and concept of a haunted romantic bed and breakfast into an actual adventure.
Probably not as strong as the Wayfinder 12 adventure, but far more potential for RP. One haunt in particular will potentially rile most groups.
I can't help thinking of THIS comic strip, from my formative years, which probably explains a lot.

I've now received more then enough items to fill a 1500 word article, thanks to everyone who joined in!
I'm currently editing everything together, and should have the article sent off in a couple hours.
