[Kobold Press] Southlands

4th Edition

Liberty's Edge

Hey everyone! Thought you might be interested - Kobold Press recently launched its Southlands Kickstarter

Adventure beneath the pitiless sun! New monsters, new magic, and realms inspired by the Arabian Nights, Egypt, & pulp adventure tales! Lost empires! Cursed tombs! Dinosaurs and djinn!

In its first week, Southlands has funded more than 12 stretch goals so far, including six expansions to the core book, PDF extras (Gnolls, Aasimar, Jinnborn, Emerald Tablet, Hand of Nakresh), and a separate book of adventures - Nine Arabian Nights

Make no mistake, this is a Pathfinder RPG compatible source book for adventures in the deserts and deep jungle. HOWEVER, as soon as we reach 600 backers (which is only a couple new backers away!) the bestiary chapter expands to become a full second book - the Southlands Bestiary. Of particular interest to 5th Edition fans - at that magic 600 backers number, the monsters in the Southlands Bestiary will also be converted to 5th Edition!

That's right, an entire book of new 5th Edition monsters from Kobold Press ... and who doesn't want more monsters!

Please check the Southlands Kickstarter out today :)

There is also a short Southlands Preview you can check out

And now you've hit 601 backers. I will check this out.

Will the 5E monsters be available after the kickstarter ends? Also, I assume the 20 monsters in the core book will not be converted to 5E, correct?

We'll convert as many as people want us to convert, which I'm guessing is all of them. A few may be dropped if they just are not that interesting.

The 5E monsters will be shared with backers and maybe with the public. A public release would require a community license or an open license, and we just don't have that yet. So we're going out on a limb a bit with this, but it seems a shame not to do the conversions.

I would love to have your support!

For your podcast listening pleasure, here are a couple new interviews about the Southlands Kickstarter :). And, if my memory serves, the topic of the 5E monster conversions comes up and is discussed in at least one of them, if not all of them.

Thanks to our more than 700 backers, the Southlands project has unlocked more than 30 stretch goals. And don't forget, although this is a Pathfinder RPG project, there is still PLENTY of value to be had for D&D players!

Added to the Core Book
So far, we've added 15 items to the core Southlands hardcover. They include:

  • A big city guide section on Per-Bastet, the City of Cats, which is a crossroads city of the region, plus a map of the area.
  • The City of Gnoll Raiders, a hidden stronghold full of scoundrels and slavers.
  • A big expansion for the Southlands pantheon, with details on more than 15 gods.
  • Additional maps and art for the book.
  • The Bastet priesthood, with new domains, NPCs, and spells, by Amanda Hamon Kunz.
  • The Lost City of the Serpent Crown.
  • Lotus Magic and details about the Well of Urd.
  • New player societies by Steve Kenson, Ari Marmell, and C.A. Suleiman.
  • Ramag, the Monolith Kingdom, by Brian Suskind.
  • The Floating Village, by Paizo developer Adam Daigle.

That's an AWESOME list, and there's even more to come (including a TENTH adventure added to the Arabian Nights Adventure collection and an AWESOME set of custom Southlands dice!) ... but there's only five days left! This week is the FINAL week!

No matter what system you play, Pathfinder, D&D 5E, D&D 4E ... it doesn't matter, we all love our dice, right?!?!

Well, we are less than 40 additional backers from unlocking an AWESOME set of custom Southlands dice!

Lots more info here: Southlands Update 17.

And the cool thing is that, since this is a backer goal, not a $ amount goal, you can become a backer for $1 and then, as a backer, you can get the dice as an add-on! Cool, huh? :)

This is it! Speak now or forever hold your peace. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here! :) Bottom of the ninth, two outs and bases loaded! Tie score, 30 seconds left and Landon's about to take the penalty kick!

Today - Friday - is the FINAL DAY for the Southlands Kickstarter!!!!

More than 920 backers have signed up for their ticket to the Southlands, and have unlocked a metric ton of cool stretch goals — more than 40, at last count!

The core Southlands hard cover book has become a weighty tome because it now has more than 20 additions to the text and graphics!

And that's not even mentioning the second book, the Southlands Bestiary ... or the Ten Arabian Nights collection of adventures, or the 11 PDF extras, or the set of limited edition custom dice ... you get the idea :)

Now we’re down to the final day and our very last stretch goals. About five crazy things happen if we can reach 1,001 backers, including a really big one which I don't think has been revealed yet. We can get there, but only with your help. Every new backer, even one who just pledges $1 gets up closer to that magical 1,001 number!

Tell your players, your GM, or your friends online about this project today, because it's all over tonight!

Liberty's Edge

More than 1,001 backers have jumped on board! If anyone is still on the fence, now is the time to pull the trigger!

Final 2 hours!!!

We've added racial sourcebooks for the lizardfolk, and a Grand Necropolis is just a few backers away.

Everyone loves a good necropolis, right?
