I recall an adventure wherein a bunch of clerics had a a collection of bronze objects that once in your posession would turn you chaotic and evil and yet we were expected to exterminate them even though the premis offered the likelyhood they had been made evil against their will. In this brand of d&d evil chaos refers to demons and immortals of entropy.
So if your pcs agree to return the holy symbol of the paladin erasmus to the lawful good church of such and such (a paladin who became corrupt and betrayed his church) blessing it in the holy water font by the front door before handing it to the cleric...the demon will grant you a spell that can only be found in the big book of demon magic.

Perhaps the demon was the paladin...and looking for a way back is sending the pcs on an adventure to find his holy symbol and return it to his church. Or is it all a plot to do more damage?
Okay, here's the scenario:
PCs are in a Circus. They've been sent by a goddess to destroy an ex-cleric of hers, but don't know that's the mission yet. They may or may not encounter the Demon that the Ex-Cleric bargained with (that made her an ex-cleric in the first place) and I want him to try to dissuade them from pursuing their goal by offering them bargains or pacts but I don't know what the demon would offer them.
