One of my CC members can't play the game--on a Win7 system, after patching, and then logging in to hit "Enter World" after the textures and what-not loads, he crashes to desktop with no error message. What's freaky about this is that he has built a new, $1200 system, and the exact same behavior is being exhibited.
I'm a little hamstrung in trying to help him, in that I'm remote, but since he's not the saviest computer guy I'm going to have to.
System: Win 7, GeForce GTX 760 card w/ 2GB, i5 on an MSI Z97 board
1. Anyone else experiencing this behavior?
2. Any suggestions for how to trouble shoot this? It's a brand new system, fresh Win7 install, all updates run, nice new card with updated drivers from NVidia, and the only other things installed are Windows Security Essentials and Steam.

First thing I would do is a full reinstall of the client. That it is a software crash, rather than a BSOD, makes me think that it is probably not a hardware fault. If a full client reinstall doesn't work, I would go into hardware troubleshooting.
CPU Test: Download Prime95 and run its torture test. If you get a crash doing that, you know that it is probably CPU.
GPU Test: Download Furmark and stress test the card for a few hours. If you get a crash doing that, you know that it is probably GPU.
RAM Test: Download MemTest86 (Or MemTest86+) and run through an entire cycle of tests. This might be a bit more difficult for someone that is computer literate, it requires formatting a USB drive and booting from it, but it is definitely manageable for someone capable of following instructions.
Can the computer run other high performance software OK? I doubt that it is the spec itself, a 760 and any enthusiast CPU made in the last 4 years should run the game just fine.

First of, i am absolutely clueless about hardware, so i can't be of any help on this topic.
But after Update 8, i couldn't load my char Hogar anymore. Enter World, loading textures, crash, iirc.
I logged another char, relogged to Hogar, and was falling through the sky. Relogged again, standing in the sky. Killed myself, respawn in TK.
So my suggestion: let him make a new char, log in, relog. Worked for me.

If he has a 32 bit version of Windows 7, here is my advice:
Warning: This makes a change to the global Windows environment which could cause other problems.
Run the command prompt as Administrator
enter command bcdedit /set increaseUserVa 3072
In the 32 bit environment Windows allocates its 4GB address space 2GB for user apps and 2GB for Windows system services. The above command changes that allocation to 3GB for apps, 1GB for Windows.
To revert to the original setting:
enter command bcdedit /set increaseUserVa 2048
If he is still having problems, see following message.

If he has a 64 bit version of Windows 7, here is my advice:
1: Verify that the drivers being used are the most current:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
2: Verify that the client is running on a partition with a meaningful amount of free space (more than 1GB)
3: Try running the program as Administrator. Find the Pathfinder.exe app, right click, select "Run as administrator". (If this fixes the problem he has some permissions issue with his directory structure).
4: Attempt to run the game in Fast graphics mode:
Make a new shortcut to Pathfinder. (e.g. drag from start menu to desktop)
Right click on your new link, choose "Properties"
The "Target" field should be "C:\<blah blah blah>\Pathfinder.exe".
Add " -quality fast" to the end. So it'll be: "C:\<blah blah blah>\Pathfinder.exe" -quality fast
(note where the quote symbols are - they're necessary)
Click OK
Click this link to start the program. (Note that this will bypass the Patcher, so once you get
it running, don't use this link anymore just use the Patcher link.)

Ryan, he has a 32-bit version of the OS--after we changed the memory partitioning as you suggested, he was able to log in and move around for a while before the client closed. So it appears to be the amount of memory available.
He built a system with 8GB of RAM, but used his old Win7 Home 32-bit OS, so we're going to have him get a 64-bit copy of Win7 and reinstall.

I have to say that on my Win7 64 system with 16GB of fast ram, when I run the game, my sysmonitor gives a ram-use of around 33% consistently. This goes up to 54% when I run a second PFO client. Not all of that is for PFO off course, but it is a lot more compared to released, optimized games and I can see how a 32bit OS would have trouble. I have been playing a lot lately and only had that huge crash that everyone experienced.
I notice the most lag when I click the Auctionhouse and then click the "Crafting" tab: I think this has to do with loading a large amount of entries? I figure that under that crafting tab is the largest list. It gets a lot faster once I can use the subtabs an such, so I guess it is all loaded into memory then. I could be all wrong about how this works, but that us the only time my system hickups. (and at hex-borders off course)

Going to a crafting sub-tab does help. What finally gets the AH working well, to the point where I can scroll through it smoothly, is entering a word in the Search field. If I'm looking for Alchemist recipes, I'll go to Crafting, then Recipe, then enter "Apprentice". If I'm looking for Apothecary raw materials, I'll go to Crafting, then Raw, then enter "Weak".

I am trying to follow the above instructions but not getting results. I opened the CMD prompt as Admin and I get:
C:\Windows\system32>
I have tried entering the above text then hit "enter" but I get different error messages. I use the exact punctuation and spaces as indicated above.

What am I doing wrong?

1. The windows command line is generally not case sensitive but try:
bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072
just in case.
2. Make absolutely sure you are running the command prompt by starting it with "run as administrator" you must do this EVEN IF you are logged in as the administrator.
3, Another possibility is your system is not making the full 4G of ram available in which case a value smaller than 3072, for example 2500 may work.

This user does not appear to have the bcdedit.exe program on his computer. Its a very weird problem - he reports Windows 7 but the application appears nonexistent.
It is possible to point the system to the location of the boot editor with "bcdedit /store c:\Boot\BCD" which may help.
There are also free aftermarket BCD editors like this one.
