And what do they say about you?

My favorite stats have always been Dex and Wisdom.

I usually prefer avoiding trouble, either by evading notice or not being in the place where trouble expects me to be. I likewise value self-awareness, recognizing competence where one has it, and incompetence where one needs to improve.

Shadow Lodge

Charisma is my favorite
The next favorite would be a tie between intelegance and strength
I like to look good, I like to be persuasive I like to be powerful and the center of attention.

Constitution is my favorite one. Why? Because I like to be able to survive if things would go wrong.

Second one would probably be Strength. I am a packrat in real life, and having a high Strength would let me hold on to more stuff than if I had a lower Strength.

All my non-spellcasters go Strength based. My favorite superheroes were more the ones like the Hulk, Juggernaut, and the other bruisers, moreso than the agility types. I liked Venom over Spiderman. Big bruiser types that can flatten you with a single hit, while also being able to absorb the hits themselves (high strength and constitution).

Charisma is definitely my favorite. Playing social characters comes very naturally to me, and this is the one stat I always loathe to dump. In general, I am not a very outgoing person, but I still enjoy social interaction whenever I feel like I can be myself. I feel that roleplaying games are a wonderful setting for that, even though you are, by definition, pretending to be someone you are not. Strange, is it not?

Second would be Intelligence. I get way more enjoyment out of playing smart and/or academic characters that dumb ones. Knowledge and learning are very important to me, and even though I do not consider myself a genius by any means, I like to think that this would be one of my highest stats, were I a character in a RPG.

I'd say Str/Cha are the stats of agency, the ability to push on others and the world around you.

Definitely. Dexterity can be used to affect your surroundings as well, but it is more subtle. Constitution, Intelligence and Wisdom are mostly passive, though.

Most characters seem to have at least one active and one passive ability higher than the others. I can't think of many character concepts with just one or the other. That is an interesting way of dissecting a character and figuring out how he or she might act or react in a certain situation. For example, compare a melee-focused cleric with high Strength and Wisdom to a stealthy rogue with high Dexterity and Intelligence. The cleric could either bring the wrath of his god to his enemies through strength in arms (active) or trust on his faith and intuition to guide him through the conflict (passive). The rogue could either try subterfuge (active, yet not necessarily aggressive) or rely on his quick wits to get him through the conflict (passive).

Dex and Charisma.

Yes I regularly play rogues, swashbucklers, bards, and (sometimes) rangers.

I like being able to talk my way out of problems, and generally be useful in urban settings where diplomacy gets a little more mileage than a swordpoint.

5 people marked this as a favorite.

18 and 20

I'm less of a 'bend the world to my will' type of guy.

Cha and Con are my path...

The Dude abides.

Evolutionist summoner though... So add to those 'versatility' and 'private demiplane'.

"Sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And even if he's a lazy man - and the Dude was most certainly that."

Charisma, becuase there was a time it was the ability score that did nothing and now is the score that is a casting stat adn adds to AC, initiative, CMD and all saves in the same build.

Grand Lodge

INT and CHA.

I've never been a fan of strong, silent types. While HULK SMASH! style gameplay can be fun (I'm looking forward to rolling up a Brawler for our next 1-shot) the characters I really connect with are usually intelligent fast-talkers who more often use their wits or personality to get themselves out of a jam rather than relying on physical capability. Littlefinger and Tyrion from ASOIF, The Doctor, Amanda Waller, Bilbo, et al.

Dex & Int. The knowledge (and cleverness) to understand the gears behind the universe and the dexterity to mess with them. I'd probably put the -2 in either cha (I'm already a "student of philosophy" so I'm good) or strength.

And with this we can see I'm either an android or a ratfolk...

Also, spellstrike shocking grasp!

Well Dex is my fav.

As for #2? probably whichever mental stat best fits my current character.

Kind of surprised to see all the Dex love here. Never been really fond of high-dex characters. I'm either a full-plate-wearing smasher or a caster, if not both.

I'd say CHA and INT. I loathe prepared casting so when I'm a caster nine times out of ten I'm CHA based, and I like being talkative and social - which is bizarre, because I'm very much not IRL. And I'm a skill point junkie, so having low-INT characters is painful. That and I don't enjoy playing stupid.

Well Dex is one of the most versatile stats.

*shrug* Never seemed to much matter to me. If I dumped a stat and I wasn't a caster, it was probably Dex, Wis second. Pretty much any character I had that wore armor would be lucky to have 10, unless we rolled stats, in which case I'd just go ahead and stick my lowest roll there then start trying to figure out where the others go.

Heck, the one archery-focused character I've ever made is my current Zen Archer Monk, who has both STR and WIS much higher than DEX. Also happens to be one of my very few CHA-dumped characters so there's also that...
