Wild Shape -aquatic

Advice

Where does it state I gain the ability to breathe under water and lose the ability to breathe air as it relates to a druid wildshaping into an animal with the aquatic subtype.

I can't seem to find anywhere where it states you gain the subtype.

Sovereign Court

In the magic rules, specifically pointing at the polymorph school, it states that if you change to a form that has a swim speed you can breathe underwater (and if you get a burrow speed you can breathe in the ground) - I don't think it says anything about changing your subtype and you still can breathe air.

Nowhere.
Also, your type as a wild shaped druid stays humanoid (or whatever), it doesn't change since you only assume the form of an animal, you do not become one (see text for beast shape spells).

In the Magic section under Transmutation/Polymorph it is merely stated that

Ruyan.

Also: found in the rules section of this forums this comment by Jason Bulmahn can be found.

Ruyan.

Scarab Sages

As a side note, this means you can breath water even if the form you take with a polymorph spell can't, assuming the creature has a swim speed.

For example, if you used alter self to take the form of a lizardfolk, your subtype doesn't change, and you can breathe underwater because the form has a 15' swim speed.
