Favored Enemy and single target DPS

Advice

I had the opportunity to play a Ranger this weekend for the first time at a game convention in a big multi-party PVP-ish adventure. It was fun, simple character (I perceive! I shoot stuff!), so I looked up Ranger today and did some work on FE.

From a single target dps perspective, is it best to put all of your stacking FE bonus boosts into a single common enemy and then pick rarely encountered and weak FE options for all of the other options, so that Instant Enemy can be applied to whatever target you prefer?

A +10/+10 untyped seems Boss wrecking at level 20 and really solid as +6/+6 at 10.

I'm not a ranger player ( I like wildshape too much), but I usually see people maxing out 1 FE, and spreading the other points around.

The theory is keep 1 maxed for the Instant Enemy spell (level 3, so available at 10th level) and use the others until then.

Instant Enemy:

School enchantment; Level ranger 3

Casting Time 1 swift action

Components V, S

Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)

Target one creature that is not your favored enemy.

Duration 1 minute/level

Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no

With this spell you designate the target as your favored enemy for the remainder of its duration. Select one of your favored enemy types. For the duration of the spell, you treat the target as if it were that type of favored enemy for all purposes.

This is a well known and commonly used strategy. Instant enemy is amazing.

Instant Enemy seems good enough to spend a standard action on before 10 on a wand or scroll.

Grand Lodge

Slayer is a thing too. But typically in PFS or when a DM allows only certain races people max out human FE. Mostly cause it can hit both half races and scion of humanity aasimar. Then they instant enemy off that.

I'm not surprised to hear that. The flavor of it is weird, though.

Yeah, it could be, but its a grip of cash. If your gm allows retraining pick up craft wand (with magical knack you could do so at 7th) and craft it for half price. Craft a few half price CLW's wand and anything else you want and then retrain it. Even if you don't retrain until 10th it's only 500 GP's, so 2 1st level wands and your already ahead.

Or seriously, just make the witch/wizard do it. Even with the spell not on their list they should have no problem with it.

Thanks for pointing that hybrid out, I had not seen it. It seems like another better rogue.
