[HeroLab] New rule or bug?

Product Discussion

Hello

I was updating my PFS character, buying some 1st level bard only spells potions with Herolab, when I noticed that each potion cost 100 gp not 50.

I check the potions and discover that Herolab create them with caster level 2, not 1 (minimum caster level for level 1 spells)

I try with other 1st level bard only spells and I get the same result.

So, there is a new rule about non wizard – cleric – druid spells potions that I don´t know or I found a Herolab bug?

Thanks

This is probably a Herolab bug, but what specific potions did you try? I can see if the same happens to me.

Borrow skill, Invigorate, Obscure Object, Share Language,... all of them

It's a bug. I reported it a few months ago, but it wouldn't hurt to submit it anyway.

Note that several of these (e.g. obscure object and share language) appear on other classes' spell lists at higher levels and would use the sorcerer/wizard spell level by default for buying potions. Invigorate and borrow skill are true bard-only spells, as they appear only on the bard's spell list.

Which means its not a bug, its a dirty rat.

The bug is there for the specific case of bard-only spells. I'll submit a report to add to Redward's.

Ok A bug in Borrow Skill, Invigorate case.

A not legal choice rest. (Another bug, because Herolab doesnt alert about PFS illegaly)

That's more a caution about using software outside its intended purpose than a bug. HeroLab is a great tool for building characters and getting the numbers lined up the right way. It's not (to my knowledge) tied into PFS rule limits and those potions are legitimate items in default home game play. You could call it a gap in functionality, but I would call that request scope creep. :-)

I think HeroLab does have something you can check to enforce PFS rules, but of course it is not perfect in that regard.

There is a setting for "Pathfinder Society Organized Play character" (under Character > Configure Hero) that grays out non-PFS items. If an item shows up as legal when you have this setting turned on, it's a bug.

Note that Hero Lab will not prevent you from choosing illegal items: it will just show that item as not legal. Even when you are creating a custom potion, custom wand, or custom scroll, all non-PFS legal spells should still be grayed out.

Thanks for the tip. I rescind my bug/functional gap criticism. :-)

Completely sarcastic:

It's obviously a new rule. You should inform Paizo that they're not keeping up with their third-party rule makers.
