At this point, it is a non-functional system.
But imagine for a moment, that your character dies, and its body is transported by Pharasma to her nearest shrine. What of your stuff, too? Threading is what makes sure certain of your items go with you when you die and are re-spawned. When it is fully implemented, players will have a limited number of threads, so only so many things in their inventory or equipped on them will be transportable. The rest will either be destroyed or left behind as a "Husk" node (see the blog post from last Wednesday'ish).

Threading is not happening in the short term but the effects of Threading are. The effects of Threading are that you'll keep your weapon and armor with you when you die and everything else you're carrying will be on your husk.
We'll be adding husks and looting husks within 30 days of starting Early Enrollment.
We'll add more nuanced "Thread Management" sometime after that point.

Sounds like a good start. Only primary weapon saved? (Personally, I'd only allow keeping primary weapon- "meaningful choice" of which weapon to slot there) Weapon and armor will take durability I'm sure. Implements in husk or saved? If implements in husk, will they take durability damage? Too early to know yet? :)

I'd be fine with all equipped weapons (primary main hand, primary off hand, secondary main hand, and secondary off hand) and both primary and secondary implements being saved until we get threading. That will encourage people to take advantage of two weapon fighting, multi-role training, and options for short and long range combat.
Having everything in the secondary slots left behind on the husk would be a meaningful choice, but I can see it encouraging people to over-specialize. "I only train wand and spell book", or "I'm just a bowyer; once they get in close they're not my responsibility any more."
