Rise:AE - DM KLS' Final Run Recruitment

Recruitment

So as it says. I've tried to start this AP numerous times to have it suddenly fall apart for whatever reasons. I have also successfully ran it for some time (to include a very entertaining game I'm running here as well). Anyways, after finally getting into two games, I've decided to hang my hat on this wonderful adventure path, and kick it with some style (the best I can anyways). So, onto the gory details!

The first thing to note is that I'm looking for 3 people as I've already got 2 people lined up. I will allow a 4th person should they take up the interesting challenge of playing a young character. Secondly, and most importantly, this will not take place solely here on Paizo. I will be running role play on here through the boards, but will run combat via Roll20.net. Reason being that I would like run combat as a group at once, this way combat can be wrapped up in a matter of minutes instead of days, as well as allowing a chance for the group to get together. Plus it can allow for posting to be rapid fired for a period of time, and it also doesn't require anyone to be at the computer every week. Saturdays are typically the days that we'd meet, around mid afternoon my time (PST). Granted I know that some of you will think that I should probably just post this there, (and already will anyways), but I know that at least here I can find those who care about story rather than just "winning".

So for the character crunches, here is what I'm looking for:
-Paizo content only (no 3PP)
-15 point buy
-2 traits and a drawback
-Average gold for class
-A favored sin/virtue
-1 minor non wondrous magic item from the CRB

Please include in your backgrounds enough information that I can use as I like to add flavor to the game to include your characters. Also, I am big on story, so I will pass on obviously min/maxed characters that have been built to "win".

Any chance you can mention what makes up the group now? I like to try and fill holes as needed first before I start brewing ideas for a character.

Sovereign Court

I am curious what you mean by "mid Afternoon" your time. I am East coast, but I have children, and would not want to take time away from family stuff; understandable I assume.

cheers
McS

I might be interested in playing a youth

are we going with UC young character rules? does this include the NPC class requirement?

@Tyeal: A fighter for sure, and still unsure of the other.

@McScrewgunn: Totally understandable and I don't blame you one bit for that. I say typically Saturday because the two people in this game were playing with me on Saturdays, late afternoon for me, early evening for the east coast. But it doesn't have to only Saturdays we'd meet up on constant basis should we want to meet up. If we get to a combat situation late Sunday evening here, then we can meet Monday what ever time works best for us (as long as I'm able to run the encounter obviously lol).

@Cardz: Yea, that's where I got the idea, from the UC portion on young characters. I figure that if we already have 5 characters for an AP meant for 4 people, then having a young character as a 6th player shouldn't be something that's going to either over or under power the group. On the plus side, since the rules are available free on the PRD, it's actually a good thing to consider for those who are new to the game and don't want to get caught up in all sorts of class abilities just yet.

Color me interested. But I have a question should one of the traits be a campaign one or is it enough to have a reason to be at Sandpoint?

I would LOVELOVELOOOOOOOOVE to do this....

Unfortunately, I would not be able to do the Roll20 thing.

@Brass Just reason enough. The campaign traits in the RotRL guide are too limited in my opinion.

Sovereign Court

So then I suppose that I am certainly interested. So long as the time for Roll20 is late enough EST of course, as I alluded to.

Cheers
McS

Brass here with my submission, Kostin Bolmosa a swashbuckler (Damage dealer and face) the sheet is in the alias profile, and the fluff:

Backstory:
Filth that was the name his mother gave him upon birth and the name he used for 8 years. Eight years of living in the dark, of torture and humiliation, of envy and hatred.
Filth was the son of a Drow Matriach born with the blood of a human slave, and like his father he became a plaything to the twisted elf. Filth grew up being told he was tainted, weaker, less, because of his human blood, he was taught to hate himself and mankind, and to worship his mother and his half-siblings as they occasionaly would give some mindling show of affection. And thus rather than brought up he was trained for the matriarch wanted her son to be dexterous and charming but foolish and insecure, twisted inside. A tool for pleasure and manipulation. And so it was till one time the matriarch took him in a voyage, of course Filth had no idea what the objective of this travel was, but he understood it was something of importance and because of that he became extremely happy in being able to accompany his mother. Not that meant anything as the matriarch just had chosen the most obedient of her toys to take along as their voyage was to near the surface.

The first part of the journey was incredible to Filth as he had never left his home before, of course the Darklands are a barren place but kids will find pleasure in nearly every new thing, of course such things weren't to last upon seeing Filth nearly smiling like a normal child the matriarch proposed that the guards should begin to teach him their craft, of course this was no more than a excuse to have him beaten for his failures.

Finally one night as the traveller were nearing the surface the group camped near a crack in the ground and it was trough it that Filth would first see the night sky. It was the single most beautiful thing in his entire life. He would dream of it for an entire week, a starry sky which he would never forget. And it was in search of it that Filth left his mother side, that he ran untill he collapsed and was found by the scout of a Varisian caravan camped in a cave at the entrance to the underdark.
After that a new part of Filth's life began he was adopted bi the caravan's owner a heavy and tall man with a normally booming voice, which would change when he began a tale, and it was because of these tales that Filth began to recover. For the owner loved tales of his people, tales full of bravery and pride. At first Filth tried to escape, and when talked to he wouldn't answer, he knew some common as his blood father had taught him some, but at that time he hated humans. Yet the owner rarely asked questions he would simply sit next to the boy and talk, he told stories, he told of work, of his own life, everything. The man clearly loved the sound of his own voice, and the concentration in Filth's eyes as the boy listened was more than enough reward. And thus something changed within the child slowly he began to understand he was not filthy, he was not lesser he was just different more like the men and women around him. And as he thought that he began to answer.

It would be a total of six months after Filth was found that he was given a new name when he finally revealed what his name meant. The owner then gave the boy a new name and an old one the man's own name thus Filth was no more and Kostin Bolmosa came into being.

Kostin grew up as a lot of Varisian do: travelling it was a happy life if hard at times, everyone in the caravan had something to tell and teach and Kostin had learned how to be charming enough that even the most sullen members of the group opened to him. Thus he grew up happier and healthier than ever, he learned many things but three more than the others, his new people traditions, how to fight and how to cheat and steal, for the cravan he joined was one of smugglers and con-men members of the Sczarni. As time passed Kostin turned into a charming and dangerous young man who left his home in the road to join the Sczarni full-time in hopes of gaining enough power to fulfill his ambition: To make a place for the bastard races in Varisia, a place for the shunned, the looked down upon.

Appearance:
A tall and lean young man with short honey hair, pale skin and unnatural bluish pupils with brown irises. He is nearly always wearing a hat to protect his sensitive eyes and a long scarf.

Personality:
Most of the time Kostin has a smile plastered on his face, most of the time it's just an act, though he deeply enjoys the company of friends, family and lovers, as he enjoys good food, drink and great stories, Kostin is a brooding man, he has an habit of losing himself in dark thoughts and memories, thus he forces smiles to hide the darkness in him from others and he hopes to himself. Determined and kind he will not refuse sincere requests for help though he will ask for something in return even if it's just an story. On the other hand there is the darker part of him the one that will turn deadly serious, the part that can work as an agent of a criminal group.

As for the other matters:

Sin and Virtue:
Sin: Wrath could be Pride too, Virtue: Kindness.

Reason for attending the Swallowtail Festival:
Kostin was charged with delivering a package to a Sandpoint Sczarni contacts his arrival coincided with the festival he chose to join the festivities.

Magic item: Ring of protection +1

EDIT: I'm free on saturday afternoons in your timezone.

Sovereign Court

Wow. So I was unaware of Roll20 until this thread. That looks like something else alright!

I'll put up a submission this evening, if there is still room.

cheers
McS

I'll submit a PC class and a youth as I'd be open to either, later tonight or by tomorrow evening.

For your consideration. Matias Greymantle, Half-elf Inquisitor I completely cop to seting up as did Brass. Sincerest form of flattery, right? I have, mostly, made up a Hero Lab character sheet for Matias. Happy to let you see it if you so wish. Little things like everyday gear is all that is left to purchase.

Background:
Matias was the runt of the litter; figuratively that is. Though he eventually topped out at nearly six and a half feet, two inches taller than his Ulfern father, his build looked more to his maternal grandfather, an elf.
Lean enough to qualify as wiry, Matias was not often ordered to help out in the family business of trapping, skin sales, and logging. Granted, not that his father actually did any of those actions; he organized a consortium that specialized in the types of natural resources that Magnimar lacked.
In addition to his slender build, there were six brothers, all stout like father, to bear the brunt of the physical side of the work load.

Not to say that Matias was ignored or looked down on. Quite the contrary. In Matias the family saw an opportunity for familial expansion; there were more than enough “Ulfern Traders” in the family to go around. So when Matias began to show an interest in history, law, and the manners in which laws and societies developed, he was encouraged to follow those paths.

He finally found his way to a Temple of Irori, The Temple of Seven Winds specifically. It was here that he found his people and his calling. History and Law had already been a subject of interest of Matias’, coupled with the tenent of Irorian self perfection, Matias flung himself into his studies.

Years of study, meditation, and training followed in a blaze of happy years for Matias. Eventually he was deemed ready by Master Garthund. In a somber ceremony, steeped with tradition and import, Matias was inducted fully into the Irorian Order of the Seven Winds. The Seven Winds is a sect dedicated to bringing Knowledge, specifically about Law, to outlying residences. They specialize in travel to places that are not large enough to have their own judicial system, making their rounds to bring justice or adjudication to those who need a little more help than they routinly have access to.

Description:
Tall and slim, slim enough to border on wiry. Matias inherited his heigh but not the girth of his Ulfern ancestors. For that, his sledder nature comes from a maternal ancestor's dalliance with the fair folk. His hair is more golden than his father's and brother's blond, and makes his green eyes nearly shockingly bright.

Personality:
Stern comes to mind. Matias is personable enough to not be considered dour, yet he is a serious young man. He takes his job as a traveling judge very seriously, eager to learn as much as to help.

Traits/Drawbacks:
Child of the Temple: +1 to Knowledge, Nobel and Religion
Wisdom in the Flesh: Use WIS bonus in stead of one skills normal Attribute. Intimidate
HL does not seem to have a setup to add drawbacks, or I just missed it. I will rummage through my books to remind myself of them.

Sin/Virtue:
Sin: Pride. Virtue: Honesty

Reason for attendance:
Travel combined with curiosity. Matias had heard talk of the festival and all it entailed while out on his first set of 'rounds' as it were. He decided that the opportunity presented but the dedication of such a multi-faith edifice was too much to pass up.

Minor Magic Item:
Ring of animal friendship: Wolf head

Torauk Urgakver here. Torauk has heard about the Two Knight's Brewery, and word is they make the perfect rum! The festival promises the best foods and goods as well.

Sin: Greed
Virtue: Humility

I have a good one for ya, I just convinced my meatspace buddies to join me online and we'd like to enter our trio to be considered together. If you like the idea we'll submit them individually crunch and all.

We are Ratfolk Triplets, accustomed to fighting together since birth.

First is Flynn, The charming Swashbuckler (Mouser archetype) who usually talks for the three and fights with many a taunt and wisecrack.
Then there is Frederick, The sneaky one (Rogue Knifemaster). Frederick is a quiet intellectual type with a penchant for making things bleed.
And lastly, Fidgit, The stinky Hoplophile. (Gulch Gunner) Fidgit loves nothing more than the sound of a gunshot felling a foe, and he's a little psychotic.

Don't worry guys, still here. I'll be looking at submissions tomorrow when I finally have time to do so.

I apologize for the lack of response this week, it's been much busier than my weeks normally are. Honestly, this actually kind of rare for me as of the last 3 to 4 months. Anyways, for those still interested, send me characters. For those who are new (which I do not mind) give me at least a background and I will get with you on character creation.

Sovereign Court

My character is still here. Would you like in a different form?

Cheers
McS

Still interested!

Still here and looking forward to the rum!

Okay, I have made my decisions and will message those I have picked later on today. Had some unexpected family show up today lol.
