Share Spell, Form of the Dragon III on a tiny Familiar.

Rules Questions

I'm building an Evil Arcane Sorcerer for a home game, and intend to take Improved Familiar at 7th level for a Shadow Drake.

If I was to cast Form of the Dragon III on my familiar through Share Spells, would he become a Huge dragon, or just increase two size categories?

How would his Stats change?

Also, this is probably GM Fiat, but do you think a Shadow Drake could activate a wand using his tail?

Thanks in advance! :-)

The spell says Huge, so the familiar becomes huge. Otherwise, I think the stats are only changed by what the spell said.

It becomes a Huge Dragon. You first normalize his stats by changing his size to small then you apply the Form of the Dragon III spell modifiers.

CRB p212 Polymorph rules wrote:
If a polymorph spell is cast on a creature that is smaller than Small or larger than Medium, first adjust its ability scores to one of these two sizes using the following table before applying the bonuses granted by the polymorph spell.

So before the polymorph spell is applied he becomes small and gets a +4 strength increase and -2 Dex decrease. Then he gets the +10strength, +8 constitution, and +8 natural armor from Form of the Dragon III.

I kinda thought there was a change in size modifier, but I have struggled to find anything supporting that.

I would think going from tiny to huge would be a major jump in Strength, and a drop in Dex...

Other than the text I quoted there is no change in stats due to size except that granted by the spell.

He shouldn't be normalized to medium?

So his 9 Str would go up to 23, and his Dex would drop to 18.

A dragon familiar can wear a magical belt right? :-P

No, he normalizes to Small because he is Tiny. That is what the rule I quoted (and the chart) states. You can find the chart under the polymorph section here.

Since his form most closely approximates a bird (2 legs and 2 wings) the slots he can wear should be taken from the Avian listing in Animal Archive. Armor, Belt, Chest, Eyes, Headband, Neck, Ring, and Wrist are all available slots for an Avian.

Oh sweet, thank you so much Gauss!

Also if your casting form of the dragon III on him, go ahead and cast transformation on him too. It will really up his fighting capabilities. It works because transformation is not a polymorph spell.
