Difficulty finding goblins in tutorial?

Has anyone else had problems finding goblins to kill in the tutorial? I've made two complete circuits around my starting settlement outside the ring road and found exactly zero, while avoiding bandits and broken men (and having to kill two of those when I didn't avoid them successfully).

Are they using stealth mode? Should there be more precise directions than "just outside the city"?

There are fewer goblins available than intended. More will appear with the next update.

They've been fairly abundant down south NE of Sotter Hill. The escalation there is still really low, so they haven't been pushed out yet.

Unless I am blind, Sotterhill doesn't appear on the new, larger regional map.

For those who didn't get to play in earlier iterations of alpha - Sotterhill was north of Marchmont just at the base of that smaller mountain range to the southeast of the western pass a hex or two. (Not looking at the map now, so going off of memory alone.)

Sorry, people kept calling it that in game. It is the town South West of Thorn Keep, at the very bottom of the map.

Yeah I took to calling that Mormont because I could clearly see the M and the T on the in game map, and because "Game of Thrones".

In case it helps, here's the link to the full map. The game runs fine windowed, so you'll be able to switch back and forth as often as you need.

For future enlightenment: after the Great Catastrophe, Callambea, the home Settlement of Pax Aeternum, will be at Sotterhill's site, four hexes north of Marchmont.

I think it is "Marchmount"

Anyways, Ryan mentioned something about a certain over-worked artist almost forgetting to do a map for Alpha 8, so we'll take it :)

in PFO, it is Marchmont. I have no idea about GoT

If you need to do the quest, grab a free short-bow, or some friends, and venture beyond the settlement hex, Goblins spawn regularly in non-escilation hexes about 1/3 of the camps. Grab the goblins on the edge one by one.

it's the easy 1 packs that don't really exist right now.

Mormont is the family name of a couple of fairly significant characters.

Well, that depends. When I run a large 1080p HDMI as my primary and another 1280 x 1024 (extended) as my secondary then I get interlacing issues on the 1080p to the point of uselessness while running PFO.

It sometimes works if I set the resolution of the 1080p to 1920 x 1080 resolution but only if I also halve the refresh rate, but even that isn't terribly stable and will reset prior to the next session.

This is using a single nVidea 680mtx.

Oops, I'm using only a single monitor, and meant only that I can Alt-Tab or Taskbar-switch to the out-of-game map, thus reducing my reliance on the over-pixelated in-game version.

I may just have to swap my old 24" back. I thought it would be cool with this much larger screen and it does enhance River City Night in MechWarrior, but if it cannot handle PFO what good is it?

I'm really pleased running two windows on a pair of 23" 1920*1080 displays using a GTX 660.

The one is usually hidden behind assorted browsers, just there for accepting trades of craft supplies form my guild. Currently when both on screen I'm getting about 55-75 fps on each.

Yeah, searching for goblins isn't all that fun, I will quite likely wait to play again until the issue is resolved.

I never did complete the tutorial Goblin quest in my achievements. I sort of got distracted and forgot all about it. I am however something like level 5 goblin slayer with about 400 goblin kills up . Just never bothered finishing that quest.

The new build is expected to go up in a few hours which will have addressed this problem. Also, as of this moment, there's quite a few goblins, as well as bandit recruits and omega wolves (the kind that drop starter gear) in the hexes directly south of Thornkeep.

The quest is worth finishing, I think. I think it unlocks the crafting tutorial and the skill tutorial - the crafting tutorial gets me 1 crafting point in bowyer. (Maybe the crafting quest can be started w/o finishing the goblin quest, though).

The "reward" for doing it is 2 steel blanks and 2 yew staves. I didn't do it till after I was lvl 4. Not a game breaker.

Edit: though if your interest is crafting, they are the mats for the crafting tutorial Urman mentions.
