Cure Being a Wight

Rules Questions

If a PC becomes a wight, what would cure it?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

1. Kill the PC.
2. Cast resurrection on the PC.

Alternately, such a thing seems well within the bounds of miracle or wish. Especially miracle.

Sczarni

A greataxe to the back of the head, vigorously applied.

I don't think there's actually a way to restore an undead creature back to the way it was in life. A Wish spell might do it, but even then I'm not even sure.

For extra fun, you can kill the PC by casting Raise Dead on it and then cast resurrection.

Hmm, I wonder if reincarnate counts as a "similar spell". I have a weird picture in my head of someone running around smearing salve of the second chance on wights.

"BRAAAAIINNNS...."
"Now, you jus' hold still there, Stinky, whiles I grease ya up!"

I could swear there was either FAQ or official rules text stating Resurrection is good enough to bring back undead (as long as you have a piece of the body left) but raise dead wasn't, and if you don't have a piece of the body (disintegrated dust counts, a shadow held in ghost touch chains doesn't) you have to go all the way up to True Resurrection.

Lemme check the SRD.

edit: forum ate mah post!

Anyway, yes, the spell descriptions are clear on which dead-fixing spells work on folks that were undead, and the use of the word "destroyed" makes it clear you gotta kill 'em first.

Sadly, reincarnate is NOT one of those spells that works, and the higher-level version of reincarnate does not exist in this edition.
