Piecemeal armor in PFS play.

Pathfinder Society

According to the additional resources page, everything in ultimate combat except for a few very specific things is available in PFS play. Reading through the exceptions, it seems that the piecemeal armor rules are available for use.

In the Piecemeal armor rules it expressly states that a plate torso if worn alone is a breastplate (medium armor). It also expressly states that a dragon hide plate torso costs 700 gold, and if worn alone grants the energy immunity from the source dragon.

By combining these two explicitly states rules, doesn't that mean you could have energy immunity for 700 gold as long as you were willing to be wearing a breastplate for your armor? Granted its only to one type, but this seems extremely powerful, and does not match the normal rules for the dragon hide special material.

My question is, is this legal? links to the relevant sections below.

Piecemeal armor rules are in chapter 5, so they are not allowed.

good catch, thank you.

There is a Season 5 scenario with Piecemeal Armor as a boon on the Chronicle Sheet, but it's a specific set of armor that's already statted out.

Is the armor worth is Nefreet? Just curious, looked through the piecemeal armor rules a little.

Also make note that the Dragonhide Special Material only makes the item immune to the energy damage type, not the wearer.

I've come to trust Nefreet's views on crunch as better than mine - but - my Oread Warpriest *loves* his! It's a unique balance of AC, check-penalty, and weight/speed adjustment. For my (warpriest's) money, it's worth it.

I do not believe it to be "optimal". You could certainly squeeze one or two more AC out of a few other regular options. But it's different. My Oracle (this profile) simply HAD to have it. Faan is my fashionably androgynous character, so it was perfect. And I've never encountered another PC wearing it, so it makes Faan that much more special during character introductions. I even made this tent to show it off.

But I'd say that probably only a small number of players would choose it over the traditional options. For me, the flavor was what made it worth it.

Yeah. My Viking was over the moon about the idea of piecemeal armor. Fit his concept perfectly. And then I found out that it was heavy armor...

Oh well.

Yes. It's almost Full Plate levels of AC, but doesn't slow your speed at all. I have it and it's awesome.

O.O

Oh gosh. I had to do a double take, but you're right.

This whole time I've been moving at a reduced speed.
