Xelani Fyodorova |
I think I'm going to stick with half-elf for Xelani's race - that +2 DEX was tempting, but I believe keeping her a half-elf gives her more coherence from a background and role-playing point of view. That, and the skill focus bonus talent making her a level 1 diplomatic powerhouse ;)
Consider my submission finalized. Good look to everyone, especially my fellow martial characters competing in the group of death!

I'd be very interested in this game
Basic idea for the character is a Half Elven or Human Shaman using the Speaker of the Past archetype. The idea is that he is a bastard of the Rogarvia line (using the bastard trait) who is now guided and whispered to by his ancestors who seek for him/her to claim the throne of Brevoy, something the character isn't that interested in.
I also have an idea for a Ecclesitheurge Cleric of Erecura. She'd be the daughter of one of the retainers of House Surtova. She would have predicted the decline of House Surtova and as such was sent away in order to not cause a stir.
Castor Antares |
Question: How do you handle Channel Energy around fallen, but not dead, foes?
The last DM I played Kingmaker under had houseruled that Channel wouldn't hit fallen foes unless the cleric willed it to, in order to avoid the issue of having to ask "are these guys dead?" every time.
How do you feel about this?
Rufus Fitzroi |
Hadin gets a hi and I don't, Rufus? So much for old acquaintances. :P
Oof. It was late & I was tired. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.
As Castor implied, this is my application. Please let me know if there are any points you want clarified/corrected.
I might have a divine character concept to add later. Need to look over the Sacred Fist Archetype & see if it would still work with the concept as it stands. Also if the character would be more amusing as a Human or an Android...
Naralesh |
After Naralesh died in the first round of combat in his last Kingmaker, then had the game abandoned without warning by the GM, I'd like to submit him for consideration in this game. He was designed using a different point buy, so I will update his stats shortly.
Brightly-colored pennants, tents, and merchant stalls were erected throughout Restov as preparations for the festivities, and even the most reclusive of the elves' party couldn't help but be curious about the event. Villagers and farmers alike poured into the town, swelling its size as the fair drew nearer. The repairs to the ship were nearly completed, but the elves decided they would wait at least another day, and join the humans in their celebration. When the fairgrounds opened, Naralesh was among the first of the elves to venture into the surging crowds, and enthusiastically participated in what he might once have considered "silly human games." These contests entertained him, but they were nothing compared to what he encountered at that night's festive dance in the town square.
As the events of the day wound down, Naralesh joined the throng as they moved to the wide open town square, where musicians and performers provided lively music for a happily dancing crowd. Among the twirling and jumping masses, Naralesh spotted a figure whose very sight burned itself into his soul. A young maiden, the daughter of a farmer, danced alone with a smile on her face as she moved, watching the bright bonfire that had been erected nearby. Naralesh had never seen a woman like this - the elves he had been used to were slow and precise, formal and cold by comparison. Something about her ignited a fire within him, and he rushed to her side. That night, the pair danced, talked, drank, and shared each others' warmth in the chill nighttime air, alone together on a hillside outside the town.
In the morning, the elves's ship was scheduled to depart. Naralesh was nowhere to be found, and inquiring where he had been the night before led them to the girl's father, furious at the discovery of his daughter's misconduct. The young elf and his paramour returned in time to weather the father's rage, and Naralesh declared his intention to court the farmer's daughter. His elven family was shocked, but they quickly saw that they would not change the stubborn youth's mind, now that it had been filled with the energy and excitement of the human pace of life. Upon his decision to remain with the humans, Naralesh's family bid him a loving farewell, and parted ways as they continued on their journey.
In a few short months, Naralesh had married Rebeccah, the farmer's daughter. As he settled contentedly into his new life, he dismissed the fox familiar who had accompanied him so far on his journey, freeing her to travel into the wild. His spellbook and magical components became a hobby, an afterthought, and he lived for many decades with his loving human wife. As must always be the case with love between humans and elves, however, Rebeccah grew old and frail, while Naralesh remained as youthful and strong as the day they met. It slowly broke his heart to see her wither away before him, but he stayed beside her until she passed away during a hard winter in the harsh northern climate.
With Rebeccah gone, Naralesh had nothing tying him to Restov or the farmlands nearby, and the sight of the cottage the two shared together was like a spear piercing his heart. The pair had never been able to produce children, so Naralesh gathered what he would need for travel, sold his farm and livestock except for his favorite horse, and joined an expedition south, hoping to find new direction and life in exploring the untamed wilderness.
The circle complete, he settled into the center, seated with the crescent moon shimmering overhead. Closing his eyes, he began to intone soft words. "Minatath soleil incanta... Minanath soleil fortuna..." The chant settled him, summoning the trance of spellcasting he had once spent so many years performing. He reached out with his mind's eye, sending forth a summons into the roots and trees and brush surrounding him. As the call rippled forth, he finished the incantation with a forceful statement of power. "Minanath notores everin familia!" In the sudden silence which followed, a tiny shape padded out of the darkness, approaching the wizard without fear. The sight of it made Naralesh's eyes grow wide.
"Nora?" he intoned as he stared at the strikingly familiar form of the white-coated fox. No, it's not her, he thought to himself. She was larger than this, and growing old when I last saw her. Still, the markings are nearly identical... He held out his hand invitingly, the final step of the ritual. If the familiar approached, and touched his palm, the bond between them would be complete. The fox sat in place, and looked up at him, as though examining him. She's beautiful... those markings leave no question. She must be a grandchild of the fox I once let go. After several long moments, the fox leaped forward into his arms, and the pair of them felt a sensation like an electric shock as their souls bonded together. With a smile, Naralesh stroked her soft fur, pleased to have found a connection to his former partner once again.

Hey, don't negate Paddy's competitive advantage. At least compared to the martials. This is a great AP for martials. It's also a great AP for big groups?
Castor Antares |
Essentially, the parties had a meeting spot and we would venture out for a preset amount of days. For example, "we'll meet here in 3 days".
So, for example, if a team scouted out a bandit camp and the other team a cave, at the following meeting, we might shuffle the parties to send the martially-inclined party members to the bandit camp, and the better explorers to the cave.
I can't truly vouch for how well it works, because we quickly lost activity from some members. It was quite interesting, though.
Rufus Fitzroi |
That sounds interesting Castor. How did that work out practically? How much interaction between the groups were there? I'm curious because I am getting an itch to DM something and inspiration from anywhere is always a good thing.
.
As Hadin & I were also in that Campaign I will give my opinion as well. It was...an experiment.
The GM had to run it as two interwoven Campaigns from the simple logistical issue of having between seven and thirteen active characters. In addition to which simple player attrition led to him eventually deciding to pare it down to one Campaign with only about five or six PC's due to the other PC's just not posting regularly enough to maintain momentum. I would have to double check, but I think I remember it finally died because of Real Life interference on the part of the GM.
In terms of interaction; well, we never made it past the events of the first book before the Campaign died, but we basically had it arranged as two 'mission teams' operating out of Oleg's Trading Post. The team membership was rather fluid, but we tried to have at least one healer & one outdoorsman in each team. I wound up in 'Team two' all the time because we had a superfluity of Martials but a comparative dearth of 'Social' characters & I could pass for social when needed. 'Team two' was the more 'Exploration & 'meet the neighbors' oriented whereas 'Team one' was more 'find problems & make them dead' oriented.
Overall, it definitely had it's moments, but I wouldn't entirely recommend it.
That & other experiences I have had with this AP have led me to conclude that it is definitely a good idea to determine from the beginning if the GM & PC's intend to run the AP 'straight' or 'Kingdom in the Background', with the understanding that if the Players/GM want to run it 'straight' they really need to have a firm grasp of what Kingdom Roles the Characters are going to fill from the beginning & what choices they need to make to fill them well. Not just Game Mechanical choices, but actual RP choices. I got into a truly foul argument with some players because the Ruler Player was playing a Paladin who's explanation for why they should be the Ruler was, in essence 'because I'm a good guy, I want to be, and no one has argued against me being the ruler yet.'
I would almost recommend 'Kingdom in the Background' option due to the simple fact that 'Adventurer' and 'Kingdom Leaders' are completely different skill-sets.
Pungeon Master |
Sounds like an interesting way to go, but even if it might draw progress out a touch longer, I feel like just running the party through a game would be easier. Too many dicks on the dance floor and it gets a bit muddled. Also, the workload. No thanks.
I'd definitely like for the kingdom rules to get use though, since it's the only AP where that really comes into play in a major capacity. But if arguments turn ugly then I'm not above kicking people who can't play nice out of the game.
Daen Aheritor |
Here's a magus who has been in a lost Kingmaker game. Check the homepage link in his profile for his information.
His game direction will be morally gray but easily cowed and his spell features towards necromancy and wands, with less nova and more sustainability and versatility.
The long version:
In gameplay, I expect to play Daen as a shy, introspective sort who is willing to help out. He's generally kind, but doesn't shirk away from pragmatic answers to common problems. He's fine with poisons, consorting with dark powers, and various other evil things if it can be used to bring about "good" results. He's typically non-confrontational in a party sense and will easily back down if challenged on such things but may use them without asking if it's expedient. He's meant to be morally gray and to provoke conversations at times, but will otherwise be cooperative with the group.
He's a Kensai Magus, but without the eastern flavor and more of a duelist's training. He's also self-taught when it comes to magic, so I simply intend to eat the 10% spell failure chance for his leather armor until it becomes either too cumbersome for him or I run into too many issues. Once he hits level 5 I plan on crafting wands, which should help with money for the party as well as giving him more versatility and staying power with his spells during a given day. At 7 I plan on using Vampiric Touch and Paragon Surge. The feats I'll be picking up with Paragon Surge will likely be extra Arcana or Improved Familiar (various kinds) for situational bonuses and adaptability.
You can check earlier posts if you want a hint of my roleplaying. Thanks for your consideration.

Castor, that's a nice place to be.
On my side, although Pungeon Master has Paddy pegged in the same group as Alayini Eraya, we are so different that he could easily pick us both.
For your consideration, Paddy Finn, rogue.
He's still a work in progress.
Background updated slightly.
Willing to modify him to get into the campaign. Some things still left a little open.
Castor Antares |
Oh, I have some questions, as I'm aiming for a prestige class:
1. Are you fine with the Spherewalker?
It seems to me like it has some abilities that would be quite interesting in a campaign like this one.
2. The Spherewalker prestige class requires:
Feats: Martial Weapon Proficiency (starknife)
Just to be 100% sure, having the starknife proficiency from the Cleric class's proficiency in his divinity's favored weapon fulfills this, right?
3. It also requires:
Special: A spherewalker-to-be must have journeyed far in his lifetime, visiting two locations sacred to his deity at least 200 miles apart.
I am uncertain as to how wide the area covered by the campaign is. Is it likely that by the time the party hits level 8, this requirement will have been fulfilled? (Castor's deity is Desna, whose sacred locations tend to be roadside shrines and smaller temples)
4. How do you stack Base Attack Bonus and saves from multiple classes? I know some DMs take them as written, while others do it mathematically.
(For example, suppose a 7th level cleric. His bsae attack bonus is 5. He wants to take his eighth level in Spherewalker. Spherewalker 1 gives +0 base attack bonus. However, it is a 3/4 BAB class, like the cleric. Under some DMs, his BAB would remain at 5, while under others, it would still rise to 6, as the character has eight levels of 3/4 BAB.)
Also, for the record, I've switched my "Traveler" trait to the "Starchild" trait, which is thematically appropriate (being a religion trait relating to Desna), and will scale better with my choices for leveling.
Castor, that's a nice place to be.
Sure is.
Lady Ansha Saeralyan |
Asha Saeralyn, Elf Wizard (Manipulator)
It's actually Ansha, with an n. ;P
Also, Pungeon Master, how would you handle the Hedonistic drawback? Is playing a card or dice game with your companions enough to avoid the penalty? I imagine drinking and carousing are a bit hard to come by in the frontiers of the River Kingdoms....
Rufus Fitzroi |
Quote:Special: A spherewalker-to-be must have journeyed far in his lifetime, visiting two locations sacred to his deity at least 200 miles apart.I am uncertain as to how wide the area covered by the campaign is. While I don't recall details of your background right off hand Castor, it wouldn't necessarily be too much to state that you have traveled that far abroad, prior to your adventuring career. The Sellen River basin is a big place, and Priests of Desna do frequently travel.
Castor Antares |
As Castor was born in Brevoy and is relatively young, it seems unlikely to me that he has traveled very far prior to the campaign, though now that I think about it, he may have gone on farther trips with his parents before. (Especially as his mother was, herself, a cleric of Desna.)
It's definitely a possibility that it happened before the campaign, but I felt it best that I ask Pungeon Master about it, especially since it's a lot more interesting to have it happen in-campaign. "Graduating" from a cleric to one of Desna's favored seems like a great point of character development for Castor.
Pungeon Master |
@Castor: Spherewalker's official, so no need to even run it by me.
Yes, having the proficiency at all is sufficient to qualify for it; technically all proficiencies are "feats", we just don't usually record them as such from classes because it gets cluttered.
The alloted land the charter allows you to explore only goes ~93 miles diagonally (60x72 miles) but that's one of those fluff requirements I'd be more than fine with having your backstory justify, should you wish, because the campaign is one that, while very exploration-based, does not cover vast stretches of the continent and allow you to achieve that sort of requirement. Visting some place in your youth that's about 150 miles in the other direction would be acceptable.
As for BAB and saves, I take them as each level goes; Spherewalker 1 would not progress your BAB in any way.
@Ansha: Whoops. And yes, should your companions be willing to spend an hour on that, it will suffice, at least until your fledgling kingdom has the required resources for carousing to be a more feasible passtime.
Castor Antares |
Hm. My character has a personality flaw I'd like to represent as his drawback, but none of the available drawbacks would do well in representing this. I'd like to pitch a homebrew one, if that's fine with you.
Wanderlust:
You have the heart and soul of a traveler, and grow weary of remaining in the same place.
Whenever you spend a day without traveling at least 2 miles or exploring an unfamilliar area for at least an hour, attempt a DC 20 Fortitude save at the dawn of the following day. If you fail, you begin the next day fatigued. This fatigue lasts 4 hours, or until you set out to travel or explore.
(I based myself on the Hedonistic drawback, I am open to other suggestions following the same flavor.)
Iacobus |
Huh. Still the sole divine.
Good... good...
This will not STAND!
This is the Divine Character Rufus was talking about. He's...kind of not-so-serious. More accurately, He is plenty serious, but I made him up as somewhat more lighthearted than a number of my other characters.
Iacobus |
By the stars of Desna! I would love to adventure with Iacobus. I think he and Castor would get along astoundingly, haha.
Yep. He is a direct result of that thread not to long back, regarding there not being enough sexy, friendly male deities in Pathfinder/Golarion. Which got me thinking about Kurgess, which caused me to finally come up with a Priestly character concept I could stand. It really doesn't matter that he doesn't wear armor, he is still going to wind up being the least stealthy character present...
It doesn't help that I seem to channel 'Stereotypical Teddy Roosevelt' whenever I imagine him.Dragonflyer1243 |

Skill at Arms (Ex): You gain proficiency in all martial weapons and heavy armor.
Oracle’s Curse: A dual-cursed oracle must choose two curses at 1st level. One of these curses (oracle’s choice) never changes its abilities as the oracle gains levels; for example, an oracle with clouded vision never gains darkvision 60 feet, blindsense, or blindsight. The other curse comes with its normal benefits.
Haunted Curse: Retrieving any stored item from your gear requires a standard action, unless it would normally take longer. Any item you drop lands 10 feet away from you in a random direction. Add mage hand and ghost sound to your list of spells known.
Legalistic Curse: Whenever you break your word (either purposefully or unintentionally), you become sickened for 24 hours or until you meet your obligation, whichever comes first. However, once per day, you can make a vow to yourself that grants a +4 morale bonus on any one roll you make while trying to fulfill a promise made to another individual.
At 5th level, you gain a +3 competence bonus on Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sense Motive checks while talking to an individual one-on-one.
At 10th level, you can make a new saving throw each minute to resist mind-affecting effects as your subconscious searches for loopholes.
At 15th level, any creature that violates its freely given word to you takes a penalty to AC, to spell resistance, and on saving throws against your attacks and abilities equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1) for 24 hours.

Backstory and Personality:
This is just one of the many stories that trails the strange man. Although he appears as a blonde, handsome man, a streak of pure white in his hair is the only indicator of his angelic heritage. Toran has moved from town to town, helping those who need it and establishing his reputation. Known for always keeping his word and for his strict honor, he has become almost a figure of folklore in Brevoy. Therefore, it was quite a shock to the poor city guard who was approached by Toran, his silver cloak gleaming even in the dark of night, to be told to find one of the Swordlords, for Toran Fate-Touched wished to explore the Stolen Land.
Toran is supremely confident, and will never admit that he is wrong unless he is absolutely forced to. He is excellent at convincing people to agree with him, aided by his reputation for honesty. He moves with a deliberate grace, never rushing because he seems to always know what to do at the right times.

Lucius Baradain |
I wasn't satisfied with the background story I was developing for Marek above, so I'm going to submit Lucius Baradain instead. The character background is complete now, and the crunch can be found here.
Ultimately, I'd like to play a straight up sword and board Fighter, which was really why I've dropped the Magus application.
Sorry for the confusion!
Castor Antares |
Hm. I've not seen all of the campaign, I assumed there would be parts, especially later in the kingdom establishment, where the party would be sedentary. If the drawback would really be that trivial, I'm open to suggestions on how to have a better drawback for a similar "flighty spirit who can't stand sitting still" character flaw.
I'll wait for PM's input.
Pungeon Master |
@Castor: The problem I see with it is that you have a limited amount of space to explore through the campaign, and there will be times when, due to the whole "running a kingdom" thing you guys'll be doing as the game progresses, you'll be required to stay in a place for one reason or another, and during those segments you will be constantly Fatigued.

I see many people working out what I would consider the minutiae of their characters. I can do so as well (for example, I still need to tailor to 25 point buy), but I think the gist should be adequate for you to get an idea for recruitment. Do let me know if I'm mistaken.
Regarding kingdom roles though, Wetscale would serve well as a bodyguard/warden.
