Welcome to Lost Tavalan ladies and gentlemen, the only settlement on this whole world. And there's not much of the world to begin with in the first place.
We've got your taverns, your shops, your dour captain of the guard and of course, the Wellgabber Deep. Because no town is complete without an unexplored descent stretching infinitely beneath its sewers, eh friend?
Don't forget the rules, whatever you bring back from below is yours to keep. And in a place this small, that's a lot to be dreaming about. So grab your gear, lighten your load of useless junk and get ready to jump down into the Wellgabber Deep.
===
Lost Tavalan is a microcosm so to speak. The entire world takes no more than two days to travel in any direction. The world is composed of:
- The Town of Lost Tavalan: A town of 200 inhabitants, either human or halfling.
Image
- The Waterdowns: The rural backwater of this world, the marshland/farmlands hold another 50 or so inhabitants spread across the surrounding area.
Image
- The Cog-Wood: A large forest cluttered with broken machinery and massive devices.
Image
It is within this small world that our adventure takes place.
===
Rules for character creation are as follows:
- Player Characters begin at 1st level
- Core Races except half-orc
- 20 Point Buy
- Average starting gold
- Disallowed Classes: Ninja, Samurai, any class that produces an excessive amount of allies. One eidolon/mount/animal companion is fine. (On that note, mounts will be sorely lackluster in Wellgabber Deep)
- 1 Trait from any source
- Each character also has the "Lost Tavalan Explorer" Feat (see below)
- 1 Drawback maximum
- Domain spellcasters can choose any domains.
- No 3PP, Paizo content only.
===
Lost Tavalan Explorer
Feat
Prerequisities: character creation only
Benefits: You have joined the foolhardy ranks of those delving the Wellgabber Deep. Something in you's not quite right the local folks will say. In any case, with this comes a few benefits.
- First of all, you sold off your old belongings meaning you get an additional 50 gp to spend at character creation.
- Second, you can choose one of the following to be a class skill for your character: Climb, Perception, Knowledge (dungeoneering), Knowledge (engineering) or Survival.
- Third, but not least, you get an additional health point at each level.

Strangways, Neutral Good Elven Wizard:
Str 10
Dex 10
Con 17
Int 18
Wis 14
Cha 11That's 20 points total, and before Elven racial modifiers (+2 Int and Dex, -2 Con).
Strangways runs with a focus object (a faceted obsidian ring) rather than a familiar. His one trait is Focused Mind.
By my calculations you're at least at 36 point buy, I don't know how you got those stats.
After you re-check those numbers I recommend you set up an alias with the completed character so I can check him out.
You can see an example under my Dario Ezequela alias.

This sounds kinda humorus like a town that purposely springs up to sponge off adventurers. :)
There's definitely some humor in there. Terry Pratchet-esque at the very least. I love microcosms and this one is essentially a small adventuring town built on top of a dungeon. World in a nutshell.
There's the crazy tinkers, engineers and alchemists, the wizened wizard in his tower, the common folk wondering what's going to crawl out of Wellgabber Deep next...
Lost Tavalan was a blast to create and the gazetteer will definitely be included if this campaign gets off the ground.
Spicy Dragon |
I'll give this a shot. I'll be submitting a character later on in the day, as per your guidelines.
Can't wait!
In the meantime, if anyone is interested I'm willing to allow the Magister class from super genius games. I'll see if there's any other 3PP that I believe will work.
EDIT: The Artificer class from adamant entertainment can also be selected.
Spicy Dragon |
I like dungeon crawls. where did these ideas come from? campaign setting books, ie a supplement. a show? from your head?
Mostly my idea of a single-settlement world mixed with my love of Steampunk/Clockpunk as well as a few magic cards I had lying around from the Conspiracy set and etc.
Spicy Dragon |
Speaking of 3PP, any opinions on Ultimate Psionics? That would seem to mesh with Steampunk at least as well as magic would.
For now I'd rather hold off on the psionics. I am a huge fan of them but I feel that Wellgabber Deep holds closer to tinkering engineers, gunslingers, rusty clockwork and alchemical beasts than to the inner workings of the mind.

Wow, I love the idea of this setting. I'll try to submit a character sometime tonight or tomorrow. It's not every day that someone allows any 3pp classes (myself included), so I'm considering either the Artificer or the Magister classes you approved. Plus, I've wanted to play in a dungeon crawl for ages!
An addendum: Also thinking of a Gunslinger.

Artificer just works perfectly with the theme while the Magister is a nice blend of spellcasting. In fact, both 3PP classes are quite modal and I feel that you got to playtest something somewhere.
Thanks for jumping onboard!
Spicy Dragon |
Do you think we'll level up at all during this? Because I'm considering multiclassing Artificer and Gunslinger.
Most definitely we shall be leveling up!
I'm using the fast experience track as well as including "Discovery" Rewards.
For example, you come across a weird chamber early on and it's only later that you realize its purpose. Finding secrets, visiting strange locations, retrieving unique relics and hunting famous monsters can all provide bonus experience.

Will this game have tech as loot? What's the chance of me getting a lightsaber? (they call it a "Laser Torch". I'm not fooled.)

EDIT: Re-editting real quick, but there's a good chance I toss technological items in there. Don't expect them to have the same name and flavor but I have access to the sourcebook and I do want to try them out.
Spicy Dragon |
Low chance of a "laser torch" then. I can run with something else, give me a minute to figure something out. I note that Rage-warped barbarian is totally broken, but that'd be boring, so I'm not doing that. We already have a wizard, might go for something beat-sticky.
You lose all rage powers, greater rage and mighty rage for a maximum of 14 evolution points at 20th level and no access to abilities requiring higher than 10th level summoner or a form besides bipedal.
I'm fine with you taking it.
Spicy Dragon |
I just noticed it says no half-orcs. Here I was, merrily toiling away at a half-orc mutagen warrior fighter.
I can rework it as a human pretty quickly, though I'm not sure if I don't rather want to do something else entirely.
I'll allow the half-orc if it's really something you truly can't live without.
The Dragon |
It's quite allright. I figured darkvision would be neat, but I went with a ranger anyway, so nbd.
It would be nice for scouting and stealthing duty, but since no-one else has it, I'll manage.
A half-orc in a world with no orcs is a somewhat grating detail.
Anyway, did a sheet over here. Paven, the human ranger at your service. I'll slap together an alias tomorrow when I've slept.

You're right about the darkvision being neat.

So, I'm flexible, and want to fit the party as best as possible. So tell me who you think would work, and I'll set up / edit aliases as needed.
I offer...
A Human Oracle of Life who will eventually take some Sanctified Rogue levels. She is Blackened by massive burn scars, and is / was incredibly shy / bullied, hating people despite her line of work. Her name is Megirege, and she's 17. She lost her family in a fire when she was 11, and was raised by a friendly (and legendary) Aasimar (and jealous Clerics who sought to make her life miserable for it). She's a Combat Healer / Social Support.
A Human Oracle of Bones who is Deaf and mute, and will abandon mass reanimation for an array of widescale enemy debuffing as per Campaign rules. She's manipulative, and needs glasses to see anything. Her name is Mikaiela, and she comes from a noble house, but is a bastard child. She was always fascinated by Undead and the idea of death being a release from the problems of olife (which she suffers of). She hopes to become a Lich one day. She's a Combat Support / Social Support.
A Human Magus who is frail, and young (14 years old; will turn 15 in two in-game weeks). She is stone-faced, was raised by Dwarves, and has little emotional display. Blunt to a fault, but great at fibbing for it. She's no-nonsense, and incredibly intelligent and gifted, but her youth leaves her a bit naive sometimes. Her name is Antheia, and she's frail, but has a noble (if convoluted) background. She's a Magic Support / Social Support.
A Human Synthesist Summoner whom suffers from a sort of split personality disorder (akin to a possession of sorts). One half of her is named Lafala, the other half (her Eidolon) is named Falafa. Lafala is a personable and friendly individual, while Falafa is an aggressive and ruthless one. Lafala looks like a normal Human, while Falafa's appearance is that of a bewitching Succubus. She's a Combat Support / Social Support.
NOTE: While Lafala is in control, she resembles a normal Human, and Falafa is merely a voice in her mind, sharing a home with Lafala's thoughts. When Falafa is in control, she resembles a typical Succubus, and Lafala is merely a voice in her mind, sharing a home with Falafa's thoughts. When the two switch whom is in control, Lafala / Falafa's body transforms into the other's. As a result, both are identical in height and weight, with only minor physical differences.
I'll leave it to you to decide whom works best. Thanks!
BigBenClockTower |
Though I'll be honest, re-reading Antheia, I prefer her personality above others. Just don't know if Magus fits with the Wizard and Artificer we already have.
Okay, Antheia is flexible. So far, though not on this site, she's been a Magus, a Necromancy Wizard, a Universalist Wizard, and even (oddly enough) a White-Haired Witch / Cad Fighter hybrid (focusing on Combat Maneuvers to aid her locking down spells.)
Anyways, if I was to turn her into a Hidden Priest, Separatist Cleric of Nethys, Antheia might work better with the party. If she chooses the Arcane and Healing domains, they'd work well with her flavor, while providing a Combat Caster / Healer that you seem to want.
While she'd need to choose between a 15 foot aura that increases Arcane casters' potential strength (+1 caster level) or effectiveness (+1 to DCs), or an ability to restore 1d4 + [(Caster Level - 2) / 2], rounded down*, HP to a target of her choosing that has -1 or less HP remaining, her archetype and power subset will open lots of RP potential (in combat or out of combat).
(*Caster Level cannot be lower than 1 by Hidden Priest RAW.)
Would my suggestion be better? Let me know!
BigBenClockTower |
Don't forget we are technically not in golarion anymore. I do enjoy the domain choices however.
Oh, whoops, well then, the Domains would remain the same, just fluff her deity (or philosophies) to be focused on magic / arcane stuff.
Also, to add clarification, the wording and values I provided in my other post are partially wrong. Forbidden Rites specifically will affect her Healing domain (meaning Rebuke Death is learned at 3rd Level, and Healer's Blessing at 8th Level). Both of the aforementioned abilities function at (Caster Level - 2), (Wisdom Modifier - 1), and (Charisma Modifier - 1), rounded down*, whenever any of the values I listed are consulted for them (which means I may simply disable Rebuke Death regardless of the considerations, as Healer's Blessing is only altered to be learned two levels later under Separatist, and Arcane Focus helps the party more than Rebuke Death ever will).
*(Minimum Caster Levels / Stat Values = 1 as before.)
Her choice of which 1st Level Domain power is removed by False Arcanist ultimately remains hers, as by RAW, Rebuke Death is a 1st Level Domain power (even if altered to a 3rd Level power by Separatist), and may vary by party composition. She'll be effective no matter what she chooses to do though.
If chosen, I'll get her profile done and have her alias created. Thanks for understanding the time needed to make the thing! If time permits for me tomorrow, I may even have it done then, chosen or not (because I enjoy making and playing characters. =D ). Thanks again!

I Submit Orvan Tusk. Human Warpriest. Google Doc Character Sheet.
I will create a full profile if selected.

Question: If I wanted my artificer to wield a large wrench as its main melee weapon, would that count as a Club, stats-wise? Most "tools" that can be used reliably as weapons seem to use that as a base, like the iconic Ezren's cane and the crowbar. I don't absolutely have to have it, but I thought it would fit the character really well.
Almost done with my statblock by the way. It's taking a while because I'm having to hand-type everything into Notepad at the moment. O_o
